Seems a little butthurt

@davidubben: Bowlsby on SEC revenue numbers: "A couple of our schools are well over that with the money we give them and what they earn (with 3rd tier)."

I'm guessing he's referring to Texas. I'd like to see who the other is because I don't believe him.

Someone should point out to him that "a couple" is significantly less of a number than 14.

aaannnnnnddd that's one of the reasons 4 schools have left the Big 12 and several others would leave too if they had any other options.

Bowlsby is senile. This is just one the latest of a long history of ridiculous statements that he has made.

We're not even getting the full payout for the network this year and there was a year one startup cost.
Next year will be higher

I'm sure he's referring to the SECnetwork payout but that doesn't account for all the TV money and SECN was a startup that will only grow in revenue. Besides that we have this tendency to distribute SECN and even bowl $$ equally over 14 schools whereas they distribute things unequally over 10 schools.

I'm quite pleased with how we do things.

As you know, the Big 12 allows its schools to keep its own Tier 3 money, and form institutional networks.

At this time, Texas makes more than SEC teams in TV payouts, and WV, Kansas and Oklahoma are about equal, with Kansas State at $28 million.

What's the baseline, $25 mil per Big 12 team (notwithstanding partial shares), and $32 mil per SEC?

That number doesn't include third tier for Big 12, but I presume it does for the SEC.

West Virginia takes in about 6.75 million for its tier 3 TV for its own network. LINK

Oklahoma makes $7 million on its tier 3 LINK

So that's another 25 + 7 = right at 32 mil.

Kansas gets $6 million LINK

That link also shows K-State gets $3 million to put them at that $28 million.

Texas Tech and Baylor have sold their tier 3 to Fox Sports SW, neither have released those figures.

It's crazy because the Big XII has the potential to be so much more than it currently is. The powers that be would rather cater to everything Texas wants instead of looking out for what's best for entire conference. I don't blame any school who would want to leave with how things are at this moment.

Using your numbers add back the Tier III money the SEC gets…

Look at Kansas = 25 M + 6 M (tier III) = 31 M
Look at Kentucky = 31 M + 15 M (tier III) = 46 M

46 M > 31 M

How do you like them apples?

Given the $$$ distro for teams from the SECN just came out my guess is that he's referring to that number while including ALL revenues for certain teams.

But hey, ya gotta do what ya gotta do to get your name out there even if it sounds silly.

I think your apples are oranges. Kentucky gave up its tier 3 television rights (which I'm comparing using my links) and you are talking about radio deals.
