Gonna post this as it looks like it's gonna get there.

Saban's Shuffle Technique

Saban teaches backpedaling, he just prefers another method predominantly.

It's all different opinions. Objectively, I think Milliner is better than Mo coming out, but that isn't a knock on Mo.

He isn't, if Claiborne and Milliner were in the draft together, Claiborne would be taken 1st at CB. He's just a better version of Milliner. He shut down guys in college AND made big plays. Claiborne not only won the Thorpe, but also led the country in interception return yardage his last season. Milliner cant say much of the latter, although he definitely shut down a fair share of guys. Claiborne was just more of an athlete and more feared by QBs.

I think Milliner is more like Rogers than Claiborne. Both are better tacklers than Mo.

Another thing about Milliner that keeps him from being on top of the list of "BCS Era CBs" is that he didnt have a good year as a Freshman. He got picked on a lot.

Milliner was always a very good, but not shut down type corner. He would struggle against a good deal of team's #1 WRs in the league, but he could be awesome as a starter against #2's IMO. Make a few pro bowls too.

I think he's a Rosegreen type player, ok at corner but safety is where he needs to play.

You guys are simply amusing. By far the best CB to come out of the SEC in the BCS era is the guy with multiple pro bowls in a 14 year career. One Champ Bailey.

Someone retweeted this during the combine and it reminds me of the arguments against Spread Offense QB's. a system that works well in college but doesn't translate to the NFL

Of course, thanks to Cam and RG3 the response to spread QB's is changing but I don't see Saban's method becomjng popular in the NFL . . . JMO and some may not like the spread comparison but it was the best I could do

That would be a huge reach on the KC Chiefs' part, but if they can't trade down and he's their guy, I guess they should take him. They've shown that they love picking players from the SEC in recent years even though they have Andy Reid as head coach now. I just don't see him as good as some of the other corners that have been taken top 10 recently (Patrick Peterson, Morris Claiborne, Darrelle Revis, etc), much less the #1 spot.

No, he will not be the 1st pick. Top 10 probably.

Dee Milliner?

I haven't seen anything to make me think he'd be better at safety. Junior Rosegreen was a better tackler and harder hitter, where Dee Milliner is a better coverage player. Junior Rosegreen's problem, and it's well known, was that he was too dumb. He couldn't grasp NFL schemes on defense. He plays arena football now.

Btw I don't think it is technique thing with Saban's players. I think that they have simply already reached pretty close to their limit with Bama's elite SC regime. For some they stay at that level and do well. Others have the rest of the guys catch up. Very few of Saban's guys surprise in a good way at the next level because of it.

Didnt Banks win the Thorpe award this year? Yeah, who cares about the Thorpe award.

Claiborne is probably a little better in coverage, but Milliner is a much better tackler.

Saban started his "method" in the NFL for the Browns. And it worked. It obviously works in college (Bama's secondary has basically been top 10 last 4 years)

You mean the Browns team that he and the rest of the staff was fired from? Also, is there another CFB or NFL team that uses this? Serious question because I'm not aware of any

Saban was the hc at MSU when belecheck and staff were not retained when the team moved to Baltimore. His last year, we had a real solid team.

I'd say the difference both ways is equal. Claiborne is a shut down guy where as Milliner will struggle at times. Claiborne can make big plays on the ball where as Milliner rarely does. On the flip side Milliner is better at the LOS with run support or screen passes/defeating blocks.
