I don't think I have been a part of an AU/Bama flame war since the AU pool shooting several months ago. If anything I have been fighting more with my fellow Bama fans on here lately with my stance that Gene Chizik is a really good head coach.

Yea, I remember. Where you insinuated the guys were basically at fault for being shot.

Even if it is entirely transparent, i.e. invoking a tragic shooting to make a point. Geez...

Two words: douche+bag.

I see your lawyer bashing bait did not hook too well considering that I hate lawyers much more than you and you are off that subject now.

He is naturally proud that his school is expanding its education and research facilities. However, he is trying to turn your dislike of DO's into an Alabama/Auburn thing. He simply hasn't read your responses nor does he understand your position - Someone needs to tell his dumbass its has nothing to do with football.

I applaud Auburn for for the effort and think its great for the state.

My point is if it was a Cancer Research facility and it had Auburn's name attached to it you dumbfrick bammers would have negative things to say about it. This board proves it. I'm sure you all walk down the coridors of the hospital pointing out DO's.

from the article posted by the OP:

"The nonprofit school hopes to address a shortage of physicians in rural areas."

which is exactly what is needed in alabama. most physicians practicing rural medicine specialize in family practice, and, in fact, uab has a special program for rural medicine students where they extremely loosen their standards in an attempt to draw students to the program (mcat of 24 all thats needed, hello uab md program). uab also has between the 12th and 15th best rated rural medicine program in the country, depending on the source of the rankings.

Will the DO school associate with any particular hospital in Auburn or will it be focused around the research wing at AU?

i'd be willing to bet theyll rotate through eamc, which is where the rural medicine students rotate from uab while they are in auburn.

This certainly is needed and hopefully the new AU and Dothan DO schools can provide more primary care doctors to the Black Belt and other areas of shortage. It's hard to keep good doctors in rural areas.

This is the Primary benifit. Huge #'s Of Boomers, and not enough Dr's to go around.

the biggest problem not being addressed is with the growth of new med schools (primarily recently of the DO variety), there is not a similar increase in the number of residencies to train these med graduates. thats going to create a bottleneck and end up not alleviating the problem.

On the topic of Auburn's pharmacy school showing preference to Auburn undergrad students - this is completely untrue. Anyone that makes this claim either A. doesn't know what they're talking about or B. Has some grudge against Harrison School of pharmacy b/c they (or someone they know) didn't get in and is all upset about it (or, butthurt in SECrant language).

As far as DO vs MD - Several people have brought up the scenario of one or the other performing a major surgery. Only ignorance would cause someone to think there would be a major difference between the two individuals if they both went through the same internship, residency, and fellowship.

I have close friends that entered med school at UAB the same year i entered vet school. We kept up with each other and had a lot of conversations comparing our curriculum throughout the years. Most were smart as can be. A couple of them I would never trust to operate on me yet they are SoandSo, MD today. Take that however you want it but, for me, MD does not equal automatic superiority.

Agreed. Like anywhere, it might matter just a little, but test scores are what get you into every major grad school variety in the nation. It's a rankings driven world right now and standardized scores are about the only thing you can use to rank a school.
