Notice that its not Auburn people chirping about this. General preference would be to keep it low key and go about our business.

Historically we have not reacted well to a lot of press. Perhaps this time will be different. Auburn will be good, but how good depends on what happens on the field. I think we're cool with that. We'll let the gumps talk all they want.

Their fan base is not too bright for the most part. I will say over 4.

The point is y'all lost several top players from the previous year in 2011 including a Heisman winner but y'all were still favorite to win it all. We didn't lose as much blue chip talent as y'all did that year. CAP was the SEC leader rusher, but his talent isn't hard to replace. Not like replacing a Heisman winner. Coates was a good receiver but it's not like replacing a top 5 draft pick in Julio Jones. Dismukes and Marshall are also replaceable talent. Everybody believes Jeremy Johnson is better than Nick Marshall just like everybody thought Trent Richardson was better than Mark Ingram. Don't focus on what we losing but focus more how who are we replacing those players with. Tray Matthews is way better than Whitehead. JJ is better than Marshall. Roc or Jovon are probably better than CAP. We missing deep threat in Coates but I think Darius Slayton will be better than Coates, but not sure if he'll play this year.

Hey, welcome to the club pav!

Georgia fans are pretty low key this year, as we have big questions at QB and DL, yet rival fanbases still try to claim that "Georgia fans claim the preseason championship every year, they think they're title contenders, blah blah blah"

Exactly this. I would rather be the underdog in every game. Auburn plays much better when they are the dog.

I'm glad. I want them praised and highly ranked all the time. That's when they fold like a cheap tent. They are the ultimate underdog. Rank them highly and watch them crumble.

That system won't have to worry about rushing.

The top receiver? No

How about defense? The two guys who had the most picks are coming back, right? No. How about second best guy in total tackles (nearly the top one)? No.

How about an elite DC coming in?

I hate Auburn, but they're going to be stout.

People believe Johnson will be as good if not better than Marshall. We plug guys in at RB and they become the SEC leading rusher. We return our top WR. Get an All-SEC guy back on the Oline that we didn't have last year. Return a bunch of guys on the Oline. Made a top notch hire at DC. Get easily our best defender back that we didn't have last year. Return most guys that were actually any good on D. Add in Matthews who couldn't play last year. Bringing another rush guy that should have an impact on the season.

This AND we have a favorable schedule this year.

How do we know that though? Besides what auburn fans keep telling us, the guy has only started like 2 games and played in mopup duty besides. He very well might be better, he could be all SEC for all we know, but there's no way to know

I agree with that. Although, I'll also say that Marshall was almost the picture perfect QB to run that system since he was a pretty big running threat. Honest question, how is the new QB's running abilities?

WM has proven himself at the DC level, but its' still typically an adjustment going from one coordinator to another. When we upgraded from grantham to Pruitt, our defense improved in basically every possible category, but the first half of the season was still an adjustment. There were a few games early on where they looked fairly bad. Auburn has louisville, LSU, and MSU all in teh first 4 games.

In 2003 they were on magazine covers as a top national title contender, and they were supposed to be a major player in '14 as well. Didn't happen.

Because we had the following recruiting class rankings leading up to 2011:

2008: #1
2009: #1
2010: #5
2011: #1

There was a shitload of talent on that '11 team, especially on the defensive side of the football.

We lost our best DL but still had the deepest DL in the SEC. We lost our best OL, but still had four highly recruited starters coming back. We lost our Heisman-winning RB, but had a player who gained 1,600 all-purpose yards and scored 11 touchdowns the year prior taking his place. We lost our 2-year starting QB, but most Alabama fans and college football sportswriters thought we were getting an upgrade at that position (turns out they were right). The only position fans were concerned with was WR. Losing Julio Jones hurt and we weren't sure who would step up to take his place (if anyone). The good thing about that, however, is the style of offense we were running in 2011. We were much more smash mouth with the football in 2011 then we have been the last two seasons.

And then when you look at the recruiting rankings again:

2012: #1
2013: #1
2014: #1
2015: #2

It looks like we still have a shitload of talent on the team. Hence why Alabama fans are wondering why Auburn is picked to win the SEC West.

If we were Georgia fans, we could use injuries as an excuse for last year

And if we didn't lose our best OL and DL before the season, we would have contended

Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, with a slight improvement on D, were in all but one game last year

Now add Lawson back and Matthews, with a competent DC, we should have at least a slight improvement

And it's not just Auburn fans feeding people JJ as elite, the national media is too...hell they were calling him th best backup in the nation last year before Braxton went down and we saw what Ohio State had

Auburn is the preseason favorite . . . why?

They're as good a pick as any. I think this could be a year when our champ has a couple of losses; with all the grad/early entry losses, almost all SEC teams this year are being rated on potential. I think AU has the highest ceiling of the SEC teams (and why they're listed as preseason faves on many sites): If JJ and Robinson can plug and play and live up to their potential, and if Muschamp can come in and turn around the defense in 1 year, then I think they could have a special season. However, I also think they have a lower floor than many of the other teams: If JJ doesn't hold up under the pressure of being a full-time starter and if it takes time for AU's D to get used to Muschamp and a new system, I think they could conceivably see a season like last year...

Again, AUs Defense forced a punt less than 20% of the time against SEC Teams. AU did not run the same Offense last year as they did in 2013, because they had the pressure of scoring on every possession due to the Defense. Gus had to throw more with Marshall, than he was comfortable doing.

AUs defense doesn't have to be elite in order for them to make the playoff, just average.

I would've thought you could've learned a little more from the other times this thread was done. At least enough to compose a better OP.
