Remember AU was ranked #3 in the first Playoff poll before the wheels came off on the Defense. The reason AU is so highly ranked in the preseason is because of the hiring of Will Muschamp. If AU had an average Defense last year, they would have been in the playoff. AUs Defense forced a punt on less the 20% of the series against SEC Teams. Two stops per game was the difference between 10-28 points.

AU Offense will be better because of JJ. Marshall was great at running the read option, but AU got away from that because of the way their defense was playing. They knew they had to score on every possession. Marshall could not carry the team with his passing alone.

There has already been like 20 threads on this. Nice little bro thread though. AU seems to live in your head.

Why ask why? Seems like it gets asked every couple of days.

Bama is the favorite. Some folks want to go with someone else.

Do pre-season polls only matter when the team you hate is ranked high?

I'm all for discussion and am by no means saying auburn is justified in receiving such a high meaningless ranking, but the outcry about it has been laughable.

Almost the same exact thread was started by a bama fan a few days ago. Over/Under how many more will be started before season starts?

You can probably find one of these threads on every page going back to the end of spring practice. With as wide open as the West is this year, I don't see why all the other fan bases are so insecure.

They have Alabama at home this season.

Let me give you an example to help clear up your confusion. In 2011, Alabama was the favorite to win the SEC and a national championship hopeful. That 2011 Tide team lost their top receiver from the previous year (Julio), starting QB (McElroy), and top rusher (Ingram). They also loss their best defensive lineman (Dareus), and Best OL (Carpenter), ). Were you confused by why the 2011 Tide team was a preseason favorite too?

They are the preseason favorite because of schedule. 2010 was a favorable schedule. Boom. 2013 was a favorable schedule. Boom. 2015 is a favorable schedule... patterns tend to repeat themselves.

Everything in your post is correct except for this. Other than that, good post and good point

No. Because we also returned Richardson, Lacy, a QB who had received a decent amount of experience the year prior, and 10 of 11 starters on a defense that finished #1 in the SEC and #5 in the nation in 2010.

We are returning Roc Thomas, a 5-star RB and a QB who received a decent amount of experience the year prior (he started 2 games). We have an upgrade at safety who started for UGA, a corner who was in the top 10 in the country in INTs, experienced OL, and a blue chip WR (Duke). Our defense can't get any worse than last year so Coach Boom can only make us better on D. Add all that together, you get hyped.

He might have been as good as Fluker as Fluker struggled in pass blocking and Carpenter was a good pass and run blocker. He was drafted 1st round so I guess is a good debate rather he was the best on that line.

Alabama? A team that could have easily lost 4 games last year if not for an enormous amount of luck and who loses like 9 starters on offense

Whatever you're smoking, you should be sharing.

It wasn't like losing him was the worst thing in the world. Yeah...he was an incredible talent, but there were still three future 1st Team All-Americans on that 2011 line (Jones, Fluker, and Warmack) with two of them going in the first round of the NFL Draft two years later (Fluker and Warmack).
