That's an awful lot of typing.

I could say all the same things for LSU, just changing the names, except for this:
quote:

The only downside to Auburn is a depth concern.

Depth isn't really a concern for LSU.

So who should be higher, and why?

I think most every team in the west has questions at certain positions that can bring doubt into the equation when talking about pre-season rankings. Look at bama. We know they'll have solid D play, but who will be their QB? Who replaces Cooper, who was something close to half of their passing yards. He was so much to their offense he will be very hard to replace. Sims had the year he did partly because of Cooper. Their DB's didn't play up to what we tend to think of when you think of bama DB's under Saban. Do they improve at all?

Malzahn has proven that his offense will work, pretty much no matter what. There are some outlier seasons - 2011 - but we had to replace our entire OL and had shitty QB options, but we've got better players at pretty much every position on offense now than we did in 2011.

It's all about the defense. We have tons of talent and one of the best DC's in the country. I don't think it's a stretch to assume an improvement on defense to go along with a more overall talented offense than we had the last probably 4 years.

So it's not just auburn fans stuck in the tuberville era in relation to rankings. Now tell me how much you hate tuberville and then we can stop talking about tuberville...fair?
continues to this day. you were ranked #6 preseason last year returning almost all of your team that made it to the NC game, and went 8-5 and 4-4 in the sec. that is the first and only time you have been ranked in the top 10 preseason since tuberville. in 2011 you were preseason ranked 23rd and went 8-5.

Amusing how much people are struggling with rankings in May, but I'll play.

People are giving Arkansas praise and look at their record last year. They lost a few on defense. Why so high on the Hawg(s)?

Could be based on expectations prognostication?

Lol at you trying to compare the Auburn and LSU situations. We got the most coveted defensive coordinator. You got a defensive coordinator that literally nobody else would want.

Jeremy Johnson might not be proven, but everybody outside your own fan base would take him over any LSU quarterback

Then why didn't the poster I responded to mention any of that?
quote:

Jeremy Johnson...not...proven

Exactly.

So from that wall of text I responded to, all of it was just BS that could be said about LSU.

That was my point.

That was not.

So you really believe that there is causation between auburn being ranked high indicating that we will have a poor season this year?

And there could be no other explanation for performing poorly last season other than a high ranking in pre-season?

I'm not calling you stupid...just that it's a stupid mindset.

I just gave the OP an in depth answer that no one seems to be doing. I'm not putting that much stock into all this Boom hype. Yes I think he is a good DC and will a major upgrade from Ellis Johnson. The key to Auburn's success next year will be the good players we have at key positions..it won't be solely on the impact of Boom or schedule. Certainly LSU along with other SEC teams have great potential as well. Honestly the West is up in the air and will be solid from top to bottom.

When are people going to realize that most of us watch and understand more about college football than majority of the voters out there. You have your usual good analyst, but they can't overcome the amount of idiots who vote in these polls.

I mean for christ sake, how many times does Oklahoma have to be voted in the top 5 just to get blown out in every major bowl.

Just look at these shows like first take on ESPN 2, has anybody ever seen a more lack of knowledge about sports? Its a damn joke.

This is the same dumb argument people make every year. They take one team and talk about what they've lost and assume everyone else will be the same.

Every team changes every year and based off who everyone lost and the coaching changes, Auburn is sitting better than anyone else.

Bama is the main competition and there isn't anything suggesting their defense is going to improve. Plus they lost their main play makers on offense (Cooper, Sims, and Yeldon).

If Auburn's defense improves the slightest and stops team just a few more times Auburn will win the close games. That's what the media sees.

Plus bama goes to UGA and Auburn.
