He's been prepping himself for this with the whole ETSU deal. If he gets good solid assistant ADs with up to date business savvy that love UT then we should be good.
Hopefully he can get the crappy Nike deal that Hart got us into screwing up the LVs in order. Bring back the Orange and White to the field, and not that smokey grey crap anymore. That has been played out already...classic Jones type move.
Honestly at this point I want that pos Hart gone, and all of his cronies.

All jokes aside Fulmer will be good for the Vols. He is a Tennessee man to the core and would hire a great replacement for the idiot you have now.
And please bring back the Orange and White.
It is a classic uniform. Wear it with pride.

I don't understand the disgust from Tennesse fans over this hire. Fat Phil is EVERYTHING that is Tennesse. He is the average fan personified. Plus he was a pretty good coach for a couple years. I think he will surround himself with good people and make some smart decisions for the athletic programs.

I think you're greatly overestimating the impact of this hire.

I honestly think some are too young to remember all he did for UT. I'm old enough to remember the Majors rebuild and how things were up and down until a hot young OC came along and was tapped to be coach while Johnny was dealing with drinking/heart problems. Everything changed then. I remember finally breaking a streak against Bama and peeling off a legit one of our own and I was on campus when we were Champions. Too many just don't know this history. They don't realize that when Fulmer was forced out he was the winningest active coach in CFB or that it took Saban until last year to break some of Phil's records.
We were such a fricking spoiled fanbase and after all this time you'd think others would've realized it. But some never will.

That's exactly what I am saying. I am not a Tennesse fan by any means but the way people around here(both the board and where I live IRL) talk about Fulmer you'd think he was Mike Archer.

They remember one maybe two bad seasons but I can't imagine they really remember the Fulmer years. It's crazy to me how so many fans have rewritten his legacy. You can go on VN right now and the rednecks are flipping out over the possibility he might be hired. You'd think Fulmer was Dooley instead of HOF coach who won the first BCS title and gave us some of the best seasons ever. I suppose it's a what have you done for me lately society but I remember and as much as I liked parts of Johnny, Fulmer was on another level and in his day only Spurrier seemed to have his number but damn that's two HOF coaches going at each other. Just makes me shake my head.

Yeah, I don't understand. Take it from LSU, former coaches with a history of championships and an understanding of what it takes to win can be game changing for a program. LSU was in a free fall until Skip hired a relative unknown from MSU.

Hart did exactly what the people who are really in charge over there wanted him to do.
The people who make the decisions (you know the names of these families) have totally destroyed the AD over the past decade.
Anyone who knows anything about Fulmer knows how tight he is with a certain segment of that group.
Blackburn was so popular because he was not going to behold to that crowd.

Justice will be served when Coach Fulmer is the AD.

The last time Tennessee won 10 games Phil Fulmer was the coach.
I think it is great.

Foolmer in charge of compliance. Vols bout to get some cruits that can't get in to any other school.

Skip did not hire Saban. He hired Miles, and he let the best coach in LSU history go to Texas A&M (Henry). He replaced Pokey Chatman with an old white guy.
Skip Bertman has obviously accomplished some amazing things at LSU, but it's not like his tenure as athletic director was magical or anything

Fulmer might be a bit long in the tooth, but he would still be a great hire. He has been immersed in college football since he was 18 YO. And who better to cast a gimlet eye on Butch Jones than the Great Pumpkin Himself?
I like Coach Fulmer a lot. He is a Tennessee man and he needs to have this job.

"Whatever the checks and balances should have been, Pell ignored them, partly out of panic over the team`s 0-10-1 record his first year. Pell, his assistants, players and boosters would be responsible for what the NCAA first alleged were 107 rules violations and later reduced to 59. Six members of the 1984 team were cited in the violations.
Many of the violations were minor--buying a T-shirt, buying a meal--but at least half were serious: using cash inducements to get players, scalping complimentary tickets at a profit for players and coaches, having a slush fund, providing illegal room and board and spying on opponents. After being granted immunity against loss of eligibility, All-America offensive tackle Lomas Brown admitted getting cash, having his tickets sold for cash and getting illegal lodging for himself and his parents. All-America linebacker Lorenzo Johnson admitted accepting money and scalping his tickets.
``I don`t think you could have a successful program if you said to kids,
`If you want to come, fine; if not, that`s fine, too,` `` said running back Neal Anderson, who this year can become Florida`s all-time leading rusher. Anderson was not cited for being party to any violations.
But Florida`s rules violations did not even include any of the academic improprieties revealed in the testimony of former academic coordinator Mike Brown, who also was used as a spy at opponents` practices, or in the lengthy investigation by the St. Petersburg Times. Brown alleged that half of Florida`s 28 recruits in 1981 could neither read nor write; the newspaper claimed that the 1981 team had 46 players below minimum entrance requirements, many of whom stayed eligible through courses like advanced power volleyball."

Fulmer has already been a UT football coach for 30+ years.
Hopefully all the football recruits will at least be able to read and write.

You may recall that Majors was so concerned about the success the team was having that he returned to the sidelines probably weeks sooner than he should have. Under Majors' leadership UT was put on two years probation in 1991, which I believe is the only NCAA sanction the team has ever had.
I never liked Majors and I was so glad he was finally gone. As was noted some months ago on this Board, Jones has some of that Johnny Majors "play not to lose" mentality in in him, which probably cost us at least a couple of games in 2015.
