Our out-of-state incentive requires a 3.8 GPA and 27 ACT. They still pay $3000 more per year than in-state.

We slide into that sweet spot below private school and other out of state tuition, for the right kids. They pay more than they would at TTech or other smaller in-state schools, but less than they'd pay at OU.

yeah, I didn't read the article when I posted that only his headline and your response and jumped to conclusions. Our discretionary acceptance policy is not the same. However the fact that it is discretionary means it could change and this ruling paves the way for any state institution to use race.

no idea about incentives but I'm 100% certain some TX kids are being offered in-state tuition rates at both Bama and Auburn. All of them? Likely not. As wmr stated, only some get that deal at Arky so I'm sure it's merit based.

I'm sure even aTm offers similar incentives for meeting a certain set criteria for out of state students for the same reason the policy leading to this lawsuit was made, diversity.

I don't think that's the case.
In-state students have priority.
And the issue of having enough Texas kids to fill those requisite slots simply doesn't exist (too many in-state residents for the university to look beyond the border).

Yeah A&M's out of state enrollment is very small.

But they do not want to be an instate only population, no school does, out of state students will not waste their time applying.

I believe the Lege mandated that all Texas public universities admit 90% Texas residents.

I think part of it is that with their restrictive admission standards, having more than nominal out of state enrollment would cause outrage. It would suck to know your kids couldn't attend your alma mater, even with really good grades.

We're not.
Out-of-state students with off-the-scale qualifications are considered.
And some are admitted.
But they're very few and far between.

That's their schtick, not ours.
And it's the worst.
Buncha freaks.

But dust storms and airborne illness? and tumbleweeds...

I have relatives in Lubbock who all went to Tech. They're good people, but I have heard stories of their students being awful at games.

Its like if Philadelphia Eagle fans lived in the middle of no where west Texas and only had a local college to root for.

Fans of most schools have a singular fanbase about whom they say the same; so I'm sure most people don't take Tech's reputation seriously.
But the Red Raiders ... man alive.
They're awful.
You'll see.
I promise.

Marcus Smart's incident happened at Tech.

Didn't tech fans throw size D batteries at a player in the endzone not that long ago?

I can't cite a particular incident (without Google), but it happens.
Histrionics aside, they work themselves up into a mob-like frenzy.
And it's nuts.
When playing them, our team typically sought extra security to deal their off-the-field shenanigans.
Not that it helped much.
