It's not about liking someone more or less.

It's about knowing the truth, or at least enough chunks of it that one can make a more honest assessment, not a programmed one.

And they're not commies. They're state capitalists. Nearly the entire globe is currently engaged in various degrees of fascism.

And you do the same, good sir. This is a pointless argument.

Bottom line Obama ain't gonna do shite unless he's an even bigger frick up than I already thought. So it really doesn't matter what you think about how much "Wrong" Russia is doing

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. So I'll just give a serious response.

Nobody is saying Russia is better than us. What we are saying is that it's extremely hypocritical of us to condemn them of this when we've done more and worse in the past decade.

It was Washington establishment organizations that funded his rise to office.

And it's the US who's been investing billions into subverting Ukraine politics for decades.

Establishment organizations such as The National Endowment for Democracy, Freedom House and the Open Society Institute and their many affiliate agencies have played a huge role in the shaping of the political scene in the Ukraine. Institue for Political Economy

And this here is direct influence from the US, not these establishment organizations.

“After three visits to Ukraine in five weeks, Victoria Nuland explains that in the past two decades, the United States has spent five Billion dollars ($5,000,000,000) to subvert Ukraine, and assures her listeners that there are prominent businessmen and government officials who support the US project to tear Ukraine away from its historic relationship with Russia and into the US sphere of interest (via “Europe”). Kind of unusual the way Putin is running this Crimean operation. He seems to have had some kind of Fifth Column paramilitary force ready to spring into action and stage a coup. Who are these camo-clad, masked men, not wearing military insignia?

Our current preferred way of war is with uniformed military units...supported by mercenaries/contractors.

Vlad Putin, however, seems to be outsourcing the whole damn thing to some Russian version of "Blackwater." Who knows what else he has up his sleeve.

I think Russians just plain see Crimea as theirs, no matter what Ukraine's current/historic borders, or the linguistic and ethnic makeup there. They've had a presence in Crimea since the Czars and paid a heavy price in blood for that piece of real estate in WWII. It is a strategic spot for them. No surprise then that they will go to great lengths to keep control of it. Difficult to deter someone who has that kind of perspective about the place.

Kind of like how Metropolitan France used to see Algeria. Not a contiguous territory, but important to their state's identity.

Absolutely agree 100% The real problem though is I'm afraid they also see Ukraine and Belarus as completely theirs and every other former soviet state. I mean do you know that they report on Lithuania as 'domestic news' not 'international news' and they call it the Vilnius government (city name) as though Lithuania was still theirs? There are NEW maps hanging in government buildings in Russia that label the Baltic states and color code them as a part of the Russian Federation - those countries are all in the EU and in NATO!

Very difficult choice, IMO.

Now THIS is the kind of patriotic, ignorant compliance on which one can build a legit superpower.

Young folks who never grew up during the cold war, is seeing it reignite under the lack of leadership we've had. This feels so much like the fricking 70's in several respects. Just a few things missing, but the stage is setting for a repeat of the 70's.
