GP did a great job on the recruiting trail by finding undervalued talent and developing them. I just hope our new coach starts really pursuing 4* and 5* players that they know will succeed in the system. Butch Jones can recruit like no other, but he's awful at finding guys who fit their system

It's going to be really difficult to find any coach that can recruit like that here. Damn near impossible.

The book is still out on Mason I think and Pelini certainly wasn't a failure at Nebraska.

You could also add names like Stoops and Fitzgerald to the list.

Any hire has risk. You can make a long list of mid major coaches that jumped to power 5 schools and failed.

Perused TB. Some dude who claims an inside source says Gary Patterson is interested. Not sure I buy that. He also says Fuentes isn't really on Rhoades radar, and Hermann is likely to stay at Houston for a year or 2 and go for the texas job.

On the other hand, mubobby says he will be shocked if the next coach isn't Odom. This was Pinkel's recommendation. Rhoades is looking at options, but mubobby thinks Odom will be the guy. FWIW.

I have 2 concerns with Odom. The first is - no HC experience. The second is - who is he going to make OC? He's a Defense guy, and him as HC would be seamless, he could just move Kul to DC. But we need a top flight OC.

I would think if Rhoades has known for some time he's probably purposely stayed in touch with Herman, if not felt him out about the possibility of coming here one day. Especially in the 2-3 weeks Pinkel told him this is it for him.

It feels to me like Odom is the fall back to whatever MR's dream hire is.

A nice Plan B, but Plan B nonetheless.

Is this something for future concern to any potential HC? LINK

I don't think so. The administration didn't expect it the first time. They'll be ready next time.

Even if Odom is the guy I don't think he retails most of the staff.
In his 4 years as a DC, 3 have had awful offenses. He is smart enough to know that he would need to get some coaches to get the offense going.

I really wish Moore would just shut the frick up.

You FINALLY played a good football game. Start doing more of that and less running your mouth.

Moore is entitled to feel the way he feels, and to be involved with this group on his own time. If he feels there is a need to support them, volunteer, whatever - go for it. On HIS time. Not the team's time. Please keep this to individual efforts. And keep the team OUT of the damn headlines. That will fracture the team quicker than anything.

On the actual coaching search - since this is a state position, they have to post it for a set period of time, right? Or is there a way around it? Has it been posted yet? I'm just thinking the sooner they can put this to bed the better - for recruiting, stability, etc.

I'd be surprised if there's any real movement until the season is over.

December is usually when hires are made unless the coach is going to a big time bowl game.

Patterson is very interesting, scary that he can't field a defense though.

Patterson historically has had really good defenses. But I doubt he would be interested in making a lateral move. It's probably his agent using all the openings to get him a better deal.

So IF we manage to win 1 more game and get to a bowl, nothing until January. That will really hurt recruiting. But you're right - likely nothing will be announced until the season is over. Especially if the person we plan to hire is coaching, and bowling, elsewhere.

You think TCU to Mizzou is a lateral move?

Yep, they have been top 10 the last couple of years. Easier to go back undefeated in the big 12 than SEC. Close to lots of talent.

It's a ploy to get a raise.

What does that have to do with history, talent, tradition, facilities, fan base, etc?

Going to a more competitive conference is a step up, not down. A blind moron could get 8 wins in the Big 12 this year.

FWIW, Mubobby thinks it will be Odom.

I would think TCU to Mizzou is a lateral move at best.

I read that. An idea who the SWGA dude may be, and if he's at all reliable? Is was the one with details about the Patterson situation...
