I remember Mac last year talking about the team saying something to the effect that "We just arent that team right now." as far as scoring alot of points. And now this yr after the Spring game he's talking about the Offense being exciting again, how this is the most balanced team we'll have since he's been here. So reading into it

theres your mistake...reading tea leaves Now read into this: Mac just might, might now, be excited about the OL, the WRs and definitely the RBs....somehow everyone zeros in on QBs....that OL is going be good for us this year...imo. I know Im excited about potential run game.

Franks will have growing pains just like Grier did.

Remember Grier at UK? Or the 1st 3 Qs against Tennessee?

Franks will struggle at times, but the talent around him is better than what Grier had.

I will take some growing pains based off what I saw in the spring game.

Not staring down receivers and that throw to Hammond.

One thing I would like to see is throw WRs open by throwing were they are going to be before they cut.

Also UFs starting CBs did well against Trask with Cleveland and Hammond. Seemed to target Dawson way more than Gardner. In fact I do not remember Gardner with any action, which is good for a CB.

It's pretty much what everyone has expected.

OL still looks shaky.
Still not sure if UF has a QB.
Defense is good, but there are weaknesses on the back end that can be exploited if UF plays a decent passing team.

We will find out right away how far the offense has come, because the Michigan DL should be one of the best UF sees next year.

after watching the game, i think Franks is the future. this toney kid is good with his feet, but i doubt he's got any kind of arm. if he plays this year as the #2 guy, we all know the opposing defense will know he's going to run the ball. he's going to pull it out every chance he gets when he runs the read. trask should just sit the bench and soak it all in. i just don't think he's got it. once a back up, always a back up. i'm skeptically optimistic.

Toney was going to pull the ball a lot more with the 4th string (maybe walkon?) RB than with Scarlett or Perine.

Trask looked decent on his brief series with the 1s vs 2s defense.

Completely agree that Franks is the future. Needs to tighten up on when to sling it vs when to put touch like the Callaway TD pass.

Toney looked like the second best QB on the roster. If Mac goes with Del Rio he'll be on the hot seat at the start of 2018.

Toney will be a play maker, but not at QB.

The heat of the seat will depend on the results. You are assuming that if Del Rio starts we will not be successful. You know what they say about assuming?

My observations.

I am not sure that Del Rio won't be the starting QB against Michigan. Franks may be the future but not early in 2017 or maybe not at all in 2017.

O line still looks soft.

Defense has talent but lacks experience. We all knew this coming into the spring. D back depth is thin.

Kicking and Punting games should be solid. Punt and Kick return???

Good depth at running back and wide receiver.

I think the post Grier era of terrible UF QBs made fans over appreciate his avg QB play. Yes I remember Grier struggling in a few games, hell the UT game was terrible up till the Callaway play where a perfect block downfield broke it wide open.
Franks will be the guy, and he'll have his learning curve just as every QB does. Hopefully with more good plays than bad.

...

Grier by far was the best QB UF had since Tebow.

Sure he had his lumps, but no other UF QB could make 4th down pass after 4th down pass the way he did vs. Tennessee.

He completely shredded Ole Miss, and did well against Mizzous tough defense until McElwain and Nuss went full tard with the playcalling.

Hold the phone! The "OL"was mostly 2nd , 3rd stringers with a few walk ons for good measure. Anybody is going to look bad sometimes against Jefferson and Zuniga. The first team OL didnt play much which is good idea when 340 lb bodies fall on each other.

Secondly, defense? Yes we dont have much depth now in the secondary, when the summer crop of hotshots get here we will. We have plenty of talent between Washington, Harris and Duke...the true soph phemon will be going pro next year most likely and I am talking about Chauncey. The foremention mentioned DBs will also be finding homes in the NFL (2 are seniors that I know for sure)

We were missing starters David Reese, and Sherit. Smith got some snaps on the DL, Vosean Joseph played a lot and even Moon was out there. The defense will be fine. Color me not worried. There were a few walk on DBs out there also playing....one that Calloway faked out.

What I saw that I really liked is the run game and how hard the backs ran. The defense also laid out some licks too...probably no one noticed.

Kicking/punting fantastic of course. A lot of our frosh recruits will be playing special teams to impress the coaches.

Grier? He damn sure struggled as a r/s frosh...no one remembers the UK game when we came within a hair of losing? Ditto UT. And he did NOT completely shred Ole Miss...our defense helped a lot with turnovers.

Yeah, Grier was our future for sure. I'd much rather have Grier over Franks, but Franks may have a great upside.

Downside is I don't see it making any difference in the near future.

I really like Franks....he is going to be a great QB but probably not in 2017...but he will get snaps and maybe start midseason or so?

People just have to be realistic with expectations for a kid who has yet to take a game snap in SEC warfare.

If Del Rio starts against Michigan just because he has the "snaps" under his belt, I'm going to lose my shite. That's all I'm saying.

I don't like it either, and honestly we need a fresh start. PERIOD. Del Rio is a great guy, and I'm happy for what he's done with us -- but if he does start that game he needs to absolutely ball out, no questions, no mistakes.

We need that arm of Franks, and just to respond to someone else:

I like Franks, he's a good kid, but he clearly needs just a little more time. I pick Franks over a lot of other talent just because he can actually run and that goddamn cannon he calls an arm.

Yes he did. Rewatch the first half of that game, particularly the drive before halftime.

I agree completely. I don't trust Del Rio. Made too many bad decisions without a lot of upside. 8 INTs. If you have a noodle arm, don't force throws.

Franks has much more talent.
