I officiated high school football In Louisiana and absolutely loved it.

Still here and still love it. Love the passion and seeing some of these dudes grow. Nothing like it.

Would rather be no place else on a Thursday or Friday night. Even with all the negative sentiment surrounding officials, I absolutely love it.

So the obvious PP7 Int years ago against Alabama was just a bad call?

I was still a fan-atic at this point and just as pissed as everyone else was. I remember that they kept showing the replay, but cant remember if replay was used by the officials in this call. I think yes it was a bad call.

The non targeting call when JD5 got rocked in 2023 against Alabama was just a bad call.

I have actually heard the decision points on this call from THE guy. I listened to all the input and heard the explanation. I dont agree with it but also realize than the fan-atic side of my brain doesnt care about logical references. Lol

The no call on PI for the Saints that prevented them from going to Super Bowl(worst non call in all of football history) were just oopsies!!

I am not a fan of any professional team, but i will never understand this call. I, just like the rest of the world saw it one way. I have some friends that work this level and they are also mystfied by tbis call.

These situations give fuel to the fire of the conspiracy machine!

I get it. I understand the disgruntled viewpoints. There are legitimate missed calls in sports. We are not perfect and never will be.

As an observer of LSU sports on The Rant, it has turned into, every call that does not go in favor of LSU is usually classified in one of the categories below:

1. The official hates LSU
2. The SEC hates LSU
3. The game official is a human piece of shite and we are going to dox his personal information.

It's always the extremes that rule the day. Called The Rant for a reason. That is not lost to me. Just trying to bring some clarity to the situation to help folks who are truly interested, understand the processes.
In my opinion, in real time that is called a touchdown.

I was at a party with a bunch of drunks (and had trouble hearing), but wasn't the ruling on the field was that it was a catch BUT he was out of bounds short of the goal line? Then they came back with the ruling that the pass was incomplete?

I didn't get to hear much of the on air discussion, because of all the emotional tirades at my place. I did hear the retired ref in the box say that he thought it was good enough for a catch, but he also is not on the phone call with whatever office is talking to the crew on the field.

I'll be interested to hear the explanation of the call.
Your CAPS key work is impressive. Almost like you are citing rules references but not 1 actual rule or reference is contained in this emotional tantrum. Name calling tough guy.

Why dont you still officiate? 20 years experience is needed these days.

Officials get to hide behind the scenes and their employers always use some obscure language to excuse their mistakes

This statement is a clear indication that you have zero understanding for what officials have to do and are responsible for.

I understand for purposes of drumming up agreement with the Rant brethren that emotional statements work best but, there is zero facts in this statement.
quote:

he told me a big problem....back then...was that the "supply" of upcoming, competent young refs was becoming a huge problem across all the conferences. Can't imagine that "supply" has gotten better

Your friend is absolutely correct. There is a huge supply problem.

The pipeline starts at the lower levels and guys work their way up to higher levels as they become better. But most young guys and gals are not interested in being subjected to the treatment that they receive at the lower levels.

LHSAA published some stats this year that showed over 57% of new football officials that work their first year, never come back for their second year.

That's a huge problem. Everyone from coaches, players, parents and janitors expect every official to be perfect every call every game.

I find it comical that these same people who expect officials to be right about everything, even while learning, dont hold the same standards for themselves or anyone else.
quote:

But in general the rule book is public knowledge and the consensus among college football fans on even the SEC rant, as well as the broadcast, was that it was an incorrect call.

"In general", "public knowledge" are exactly why you sound like you sound. There are very specific rules that the general public does not know.

I mean damn, i guess since the SEC Rant and broadcast blowhards know so much, they gotta be right?

I know no one cares that i officiate, but at least a I speak from an educated viewpoint of rules applications. I used to also be the general public consensus, until i actually studied and learned the application.

It would probably be of no surprise to a guy as learned as you, that over half the high priced coaching staffs on that field don't know the rule book. But don't let facts get in the way by any means.

Guys, i understand why you think that there are all these biased viewpoints against LSU but its just not so.

Im an official, i know Daniel and his brother. Both good dudes who want nothing more that to officiate a game without issue.

With a catch, there are qualifications that have to be met. Different from a run. I was watching the game and saw issues with the catch/incomplete pass. I dont know what was discussed on the line with Birmingham, but they have all the camera viewpoints. They make the call on a review because its just not possible for human eyes to pickup every minut detail in real time.

Since i have become an official, i enjoy sports way more because i understand the officials viewpoint. When i was just a fan / fanatic, i had all these conspiracy theories also.

It also makes you come across as extremely uneducated. If you would just learn to trust the process, and free yourself from always having to have a conspiracy against your team, I promise you that you would enjoy the experience of a football game so much more.

You have no idea of the countless hours of studying rule books, case books, film reviews, critiques, evaluations, testing that officials go through. We are all human and will make mistakes, but it is not because we have an axe to grind.

Just enjoy the moments guys and girls. Kids playing are going to make mistakes. Coaches coaching are going to make mistakes. Officials working the game are going to make mistakes. Thank goodness for review, so they can be corrected. But unless, you know what the rule book states, and are on the line when discussing with the league office, you just come off sounding like an echo chamber.

You argue balls and strikes, you get tossed. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. This is true in college, the minors, and the majors.

This is also true in high school. I ump high school and some low level college and it is understood that balls and strikes are not up for debate.

We also don't entertain assistant coaches. If they feel they need to open their mouths, they get it quickly. At least HC is warned. If assistant is mouthing off, HC can get dumped for his dumbass assistant coach.

They all know and yet they love playing the martyr for what reason I never understand.

Plate ump gave him plenty of chances. The coaches behavior was very strange at that point in the game.

We like to say, "he ejected himself",
Great custom work. It looks fantastic! Congrats to you
I sell auto parts and I am in shops all day long. This is a correct statement. So many brand new vehicles sitting waiting on parts that are on national backorder. Meanwhile that $1500.00 note keeps showing up at the owners address every month.

JJ January. Really great dude.

Who are you needing to tell to box out when nobody from UGA is even down there.

Sounded better in your head right? It would be better if you just didn't comment on basketball matters. Anyone, and I mean a-n-y-o-n-e who has played at Jr High level or better knows exactly who to block out.

Dumbass.

This is the best example I have ever seen of tRant. This is fantastic! Looks like the tPear posse still riding for their general.

Between the tPear Support Circle Jerk group and the LSU accountants support group, the ones always screaming that we have the poors, this place is a shite show.

Great representation!

The absolute joke is going to kick the shite out of us in Tiger Stadium next year with Lance Heard as his left tackle. Will you be laughing?

You sound scared. Maybe stay indoors that weekend in your safe space.

Hey Kirby, come be our DC. We'll treat you more kindly I promise.

That's some bullshite and you know it. Bunch of retards around here will want him left on the tarmac after the first game the defense gives up 3 scores. Stop lying to yourself....
I could not agree more. Doug has had a good run but he's alot like listening to Jordy and Lloyd, mostly emotional takes and not much of anything, to add value to the coverage or commentary. It's like someone's pawpaw got lost going to the bathroom and ended up in the booth.

Time to move on.
He looks like the freaky "cleaner" that people call when they need a crime scene cleaned up.

can have lesser talented players that perform well if they know where to go and what to do

This is Div 1 football, do you really think that these guys don't know that you are supposed to tackle the other teams guy with the football?

I mean do they need to wipe their arse and tie their shoes before they go to their college classes in the morning?
