re: NAD craze is climbing. Can you test for those levels?
Posted by pressurized on 6/12/25 at 4:03 pm to plaric
Per ChatGPT (I have not checked the sources):
I'm holding off on it until more research, but following this thread.
quote:
The Basics:
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is critical for mitochondrial function, energy production, and DNA repair. Think of it as cellular fuel for cleanup and longevity processes (like sirtuin activation).
With age, NAD+ levels tank. Supplements aim to raise it.
quote:
Pros & Cons:
Compound Pros Cons
NAD+ Direct delivery Poor oral bioavailability
NMN Well-studied, effective Regulatory grey area (FDA cracked down on it as a “drug”)
NR Clean supply chain, patented, GRAS status May be less effective in muscle/brain
NMNH Promising speed & redox benefits Little to no human research, redox concerns
Final Skeptical Thought:
Boosting NAD+ indiscriminately is not a silver bullet. If the mitochondria are damaged or overloaded (e.g., by toxins, chronic stress, or poor sleep), you're just throwing more workers into a broken factory.

I researched it after hearing about it on a podcast. ChatGPT told me NAD was not very bioavailable other than IV. NMNH is a precursor to NAD (similar to NAC -> glutathione, which I'm a big fan of), and seems to be more bioavailable than NAD and has flooded the NAD market on Amazon, but there isn't enough research on it, according to AI. I don't have the time to dig into it myself, but does seem to be the new health influencer craze.

I haven't used the Inspire 2 or any other tracker for that matter, but the Inspire 3 had been great for me. I'm not a watch guy, or any accessories really, but this has been a great fitness tracker for me. It's a low profile band that gets phone notifications which is all I need. I found I've been leaving my phone behind around the house instead of checking for missed calls/texts so often, which is an added bonus. I think it was $75 on sale.
7+ day battery life. The app works great. Tracks GPS off your phone, otherwise the Charge model has built in, but wider band style. Plenty of band options on Amazon. I got a stretch band and I just slide it off before getting into the sauna to top off the charge every so often, otherwise I just check the app in the morning for sleep score, and usually at night to review metrics. I think Garmin and Samsung have something similar, but haven't needed to look in the last year.

Tell him to read Casey Means book Good Energy. The carnivore diet should help him regulate his blood sugar and hormone levels, but she makes the argument for fiber to improve the gut microbiome. The good news is type 2 diabetes is completely treatable, and even preventable.
re: Have any of you tried the Carnivore Diet ?

Yes. Basically an elimination diet. I've since added dairy, fruit, and some vegetables. I do take vitamins/supplements as insurance.
I've never felt better.

Ivy is a frat bar. Johnny's is an iconic cougar bar. Never heard of Thirsty. I lived down there pre East Andrews. Could of been me, blackout drunk on my own accord many a times.

I listened to the podcast too and looked into it.
An independent lab testing company like Any Lab Test Now, etc., will cost around $250 for the test.
I ended up ordering methylated folate droppers on Amazon. I haven't noticed a difference. I'll finish up the bottle and see how I feel, and how I feel when I stop.
I kind of get a snake oil salesman vibe from Gary. He's supposed to come back on Rogan to go over Joe's results. We'll see. I'm not sold on the grounding mat, but there seems to be some science to the red light therapy.

Best line I ever heard about the WNBA:
If I wanted to see a bunch of missed layups, I'd go watch a local YMCA pickup game.

Leg of Lamb - Smoker or Oven?
Posted by pressurized on 4/8/23 at 1:04 pm
Bone in leg, I think 8lbs. I have fresh rosemary, thyme, and garlic. Salt, pepper, onion, etc.
225 in smoker? 350 in smoker? 375 in oven? Debating this in my head. Not roasting any veggies. But will have Mac n cheese in one oven. Weather should cooperate. I usually cook lamb to medium rare, grew up eating it well done lol.
How do y'all baws and bawettes prepare your lamb?

Staying at the Cosmo Thurs-Mon. Probably do Circa/Fremont one day.
What are the best sports books on the South end? Cosmo's is nice, but small. They are holding a watch party in their ballroom for $150 a day, open bar and betting spots. Is that worth it to avoid the crazy crowds at the other sports books?

I'm in the same boat. Going on a guys trip to Vegas next weekend for my bday. My buddies are joking/half serious about hookers and blow.
Not going to lie, the temptation is real, but I guess I'll have to settle for doing crushed up pot brownie off a hooker's arse.

Yes, works great. Go lower like said above, basically I treat it like a steak. My favorite is reverse seared on the smoker with carne asada rub and chimi sauce.
One important thing of note. Make sure to slice against the grain and really pay attention bc the muscle fibers rotate 90° midway.
