re: Does United States constitutional rights apply to non-US citizens?

People need to start making clear distinctions between someone here illegally and a non-citizen who is here LEGALLY.

Having to alert the city council every time it’s used seems absurd.

Still no justice for Janessa Hartley either. Shot by a car jacker in Sherwood Forest. Probably visiting from one of the many section 8 apartment complexes in the area.

I made a very mild joke about reparations on instagram and had several black people threaten to kill my children. Needless to say, I'll stop paying taxes and move before I give one thin cent to those people.
re: Hearing conversations in other rooms when no one is home?
Posted by longtooth on 5/13/25 at 4:04 pm
Lived in an old house in college and heard all the familiar noises of my roommate entering the house after returning from summer break. Door opening and closing, and what sounded like scrounging around in his room then silence. After a minute I went back to greet and room was dark. He returned about a week later. I may have had some sort of auditory hallucination.

I believe BREC’s budget is $115 million, but point taken. They sent almost $60 million to the Greenwood park/zoo in Baker while other, existing parks get little to no ongoing maintenance.
Plenty of money for pretty way finding signage and new, pointless buildings, but little to nothing for more hiking/walking trails.
Cameras have been installed, but security at most parks is sorely lacking as well

Mayfair, Westdale Elm, Sherwood Middle, BRHS and a couple more that are Good to great public schools and a bunch of middle of the pack C to B level schools with gifted components.

Pretty sure the US benefits from the continued liberal rule in Canada. And we may even add a state or two.
re: U.S. economy shrank 0.3% in the first quarter of 2025

Not that the Trump economic plan is without some risk, but this is to be expected when you hit the reset button on the global economic model. Which was broken, btw. The US and China will reach a trade deal eventually, but it will be more advantageous to the US. I trust that Scott Bessent knows exactly what needs to be done.

Where were "Our" judges at when the J6 captives were being held indefinitely?

This is all theater. The US Navy IS what protects global shipping. We probably have a big boat or two berthed in Singapore as we speak.
re: What parent would allow their 13 old child to ride a bike at 1:20 am

This is sad. But, not necessarily unusual. 13 is about the age kids start doing shite like this. Maybe he snuck out and was visiting a girl and was heading back home? And in DS you pretty much have to get on a hwy to get anywhere.

Could have gotten him or an equally decent QB in a later round. The only way this 2nd Rd. pick is justified is if this guy is our starter by mid season.
re: Honestly As of Now, Which Country Has the Upper-Hand On the Tariff Situation?USA or China?
Posted by longtooth on 4/14/25 at 10:36 am
US: A full decoupling will have to live with long and short term shortages in almost all cheaply made stuff in addition to electronics (phones, etc. - we were heading this way despite the trade war), some rare earth minerals we will need to source elsewhere. We will suffer mainly from inconvenience and possible deepening recession.
China: Economy will evaporate. They import food, energy, etc. People might start dying and or revolting against the Communist Government.

About 6-7months back a bunch of them were at the Frenchtown BREC Park trailhead behaving like third world trash. Just carrying on clearly directing their loud gibberish at people and generally making people uncomfortable. One did a burnout exiting the parking lot. Ignored their BS and did my run but a few were still there with shite music so loud I could hear it a good distance away. This was 10:30 in the morning btw. And when they were done threw all their styrofoam food containers on the ground. Most of their vehicles had Texas plates.
re: David Autor, professor of economics at MIT studies the effects of globalization on USA
Posted by longtooth on 3/31/25 at 12:29 pm
I have stated it on here before. We do NOT need to be in a pissing contest with Canada and Mexico just for the sake of it. The US absolutely needs them both to build our industrial & manufacturing capacity in the Western Hemisphere. And we need to do it faster than we have been to replace China and the rapidly de-globalization of trade. I was all in on DJT, and I still am on many policy issues, but we all better hope he is playing with a full deck on the tariff issue, which I personally believe is a mistake. You build out first, then go after trade disparities. Or you chip away at those disparities over time.
re: US oil producers face new growth challenges in top oilfield (Permian)
Posted by longtooth on 3/27/25 at 11:29 am
Canada has abundant energy and natural resources that we will absolutely need to power the massive expansion of manufacturing and construction in the US. We need a major nuclear plant buildout to hedge against fluctuations in O/G supply.
Hopefully this factors into DJT's endgame plan with tariffs, because the US currently imports 75% of Canadian energy production. We actually have benefitted from an incompetent Canadian government in that they bend over for "climate change" money and don't refine or build pipelines to the coasts to export elsewhere.

re: Judge rules school district must return books with graphic sex themes to school libraries

How were these books there in the first place? Perverse librarian? Does each school have that sort of flexibility?
This is honestly why I have trouble with the other side of the political spectrum. We can disagree on policy and how we arrive at solutions, but the left’s clear absence of common decency and reason is beyond my capacity to forgive.

re: Helicopter following two lights near LSU
Posted by longtooth on 2/5/25 at 10:15 pm
I was out riding around the LSU lakes and about 8:30 saw a green light/orb sort of slingshot across the entirety of the sky. It didn’t look like any meteor I’ve ever seen. It looked lower and kind of eased or ramped up speed to what easily could have been 1,000 mph or more. And I’ve seen my fair share of Harriers at about the same height as this going 7-800mph so I have some ability to estimate speed.
In hindsight it could have been a lone meteor taking an odd trajectory or maybe some light show LSU was doing that I know nothing about.
Either way it was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen.
