I take back my initial excitement. That is a desecration of the Waldos. And here I was thinking I'd buy my first soccer jersey in a decade.
I feel like your league's rule about winning no more than twice sort of promotes sandbagging. If you already won twice, you may as well tank the other rounds. I wouldn't do it, but I could see some take that route.

I feel like removing that rule would remove the incentive to sandbag since all the rounds used for handicapping are in the league. Sandbagging is an issue for other tournaments where a guy plays a bunch of rounds leading up to the tournament to get his cap up before. For your league, though, all the scores are part of the league. So, it just doesn't make sense to sandbag unless it's due to that one rule.

I guess a guy can tank a round when he knows he has no shot at winning after a few holes. That is why the handicapping system uses 8/20 rounds rather than an average.
I just looked at the app. There are three options

Current Index - That uses the GHIN (not helpful for you) or it uses all the rounds recorded in Squabbit. That could get tricky when starting over. Maybe you can add rounds in from the past year to help it calculate

Fixed Index - You just input an index when starting. You can adjust as you go. That may be the simplest but also annoying option

League Events - This is probably the best option since it seems to match your method you use now. I would probably just put in the past 12 events, then roll with that.

ETA: Just saw at the bottom that you can import rounds from a spreadsheet. That could save you a lot of time by putting in past events. It says "The rounds imported will not count towards the league leaderboard, but can be used to establish each player's handicap from existing rounds."
Yeah, this will be tricky. There is also something you need to keep an eye on. When you play a round, if you click on the player, there is a toggle where you say if something counts towards handicap. If you want the handicaps to update after a round, keep that on, if not, turn it off.

I think this may be a situation where you need to put in some time to start to save you time later. You mentioned a guy having a spreadsheet. You should get that spreadsheet and put some formulas in for the slope and rating of the courses you are playing to have it calculate all the handicap differentials from past rounds. Then either use the GHIN formula for taking the best 8 out of 20 rounds, or just use average.

The more I think about it, the more I think you'll have a tough time with this. When you make an account on Squabbit, you can link your handicap to GHIN. I would imagine that is how most leagues keep track of everyone's caps. I realize that doesn't help you, but I am not sure of a way around this.

This shite is, dare I say, even dumber than LIV. And LIV is fricking awful.

TGL is starting to lean into the fun stuff a bit more this year. They've added some fun holes that wouldn't make sense in real life. They should get rid of all the normal holes and completely adopt outlandish holes. I don't care if Billy Horschel can his a stock gap wedge into a basic green. I do want to see them try to hit a ball with an apex below 40ft and still try to birdie a hole.
This is anecdotal, but I didn't realize it was on during the holidays. I watched yesterday's match last night after the kids went to bed. I would assume the ratings will be better for week 3. They might still suck, I don't care.
You had me extremely worried. Waking up on Sundays at 11, going to AM Mart for some sandwiches, then watching football all day was about as good as a Sunday got in college.

re: Brooks Koepka leaving LIV

The biggest advantage of the suspension is the deterrent for current players to leave. If they allow Koepka back immediately, the next step will be for a player to take a check to play in one LIV event then come back.

The last few years have proven to us that the PGA tour is bigger than 1 or 2 players. I don't think the benefit of getting a declining Koepka (who has never really cared about tour events anyway) this season is outweighed by the benefits of keeping the path they have been on.

Now, if Rahm or Dechambeau were looking to come back, maybe you change the rules to potentially kill LIV altogether.

Just noticed the 4 stars. I hope this isn't a situation where the men have a different jersey than the women.

Inflammable and Flammable

I actually just read about this one. The word was originally inflammable, but it got confused with other words that start with im and imply the opposite. So, factories just stared dropping the im in the beginning to avoid confusion and potentially harmful accidents.
That was a good explanation of the league, but now that you mentioned you play a different course every month, how do you keep the same pull no matter where you play? You mentioned that yours is 25. It wouldn't change based on the course rating?
Now that I think about it, I think Squabbit can update your handicap in the system based on rounds played. I would just look into ditching the 3 month window to establish caps and let it run the whole year. It makes sense that guys may blow away their quota when they could have just played poorly the first 3 months of the season. Let the system do the handicapping for you and if a guy somehow beats his quota by 181%, then his future rounds will reflect it. I've only ever played quota with ghin handicaps, so it was hard to blow away your quota.

Anyone ever try Squabbit?

Squabbit is awesome and will make tracking so much easier for you, but I am not sure it will create a different handicapping set up for you.

I am also a bit confused by your post. Are you mixing up Stableford and Quota? Stableford applies handicaps to each hole. Typically, getting over 36 points is a good day. Quota applies all the strokes at the beginning (like you mentioned). If I read your example right, the guy had a course handicap of 20, "has to pull 16" (meaning 36-20), and he somehow managed to earn 29 points. I've seen guys get close to double digits in quota, but never +13.

Also, when you say you are a 25, do you mean your course handicap is 9? 36-9 = 25. I would assume that is the case if you are averaging 80.

I just wanted to make sure I was understanding because some of the lexicon is jumbled in there. ETA: Just reread and realized you mentioned points to pull in your first paragraph. So, my mistake. You explained it correctly.

3.5 hours is okay, 4 is miserable, anything over 4 is just intolerable

I would love to be able to play in less than 4 hours, but if I am playing a public course where I'm not the first group off, I consider anything around 4 hours to be a win.

I'm a broken record on here with promoting walking, but walking would certainly reduce the perception of slow pace of play. Instead of driving and waiting to hit, you walk and the green is typically clear when you get to your ball.

is Professional Football now. What is the big deal? Why is it so bad for you because it is now professional football?

The problem is it's a much worse version. Compare LSU and the Saints this year. Even though the Saints had no shot at the playoffs, it has been fun watching the young guys play well. It's enjoyable because we know they will be there next year. There is incentive to stay connected to a bad team.

With LSU, as soon as they are out of the playoff, I have no incentive to keep watching. Most of the team won't be there next year.

Yeah, it was definitely giving uncanny valley vibes. Something felt off.
Are you friends with Bob Sacamano?
It's kind of weird seeing a thread where a bunch of Big 10 fans are making fun of the IQ of SEC fans while voluntarily frequenting an SEC message board. You are the company you keep.

I think it's an impressive win for Iowa.

re: LIV going.to 72 holes...

He'll always have the first 17 holes Sunday at Southern Hills.
Yeah, Kevin was sent to bed at dinner time. They may have mentioned the time, but let's assume 7. That's still a lot of time to get the kitchen cleaned before going to bed.
So, in this scenario, there is a person so successful in their life that they can simply "stroke" a 20 million dollar check, but this person needs to be so insecure that they need Kenny Dillingham to make them famous?
