I believe LSU's post-season chances just shot up to about 99.99% (You can never be 100%, especially these days.)

The timing of this announcement was planned and executed perfectly! Well played CPM! Looks like you just bought yourself at least 2 more games.

Does anybody remember the name of the candy/chocolate shop that was in Village Square on College Drive in Baton Rouge next to the old Coffee Call location in the 1980's? If I remember correctly, it was originally named Fudrucker's but changed its name to Chocollage at some point (possibly due to a copyright dispute with the burger joint named Fudrucker's). Can someone confirm whether my memory is correct?

Village Square was (or still is) the name of the shopping center on College Drive with Wal-Mart, Coffee Call, SportsClips, etc. but it looked very different. Before Wal-Mart, there was a huge store named Service Merchandise (and named Wilson's before that). Coffee Call was on the opposite side of the shopping center from its current location, and there was a candy shop next door to it. I am trying to remember the name of that candy shop.
Joe Montana was not with the Chiefs while Bo was in the NFL.
Bo Jackson never played Joe Montana.
My best guess is that the buttons are not referencing a football game but rather the 1993 ALCS when Joe Carter and the Toronto Blue Jays beat Bo Jackson and the Chicago White Sox (even though the red writing makes little sense because the Blue Jays have only a tiny amount of red in their uniforms). Here is why....

FOOTBALL?
I believe I have completely ruled out football.

Bo Jackson played for the Los Angeles Raiders from 1987 to 1990, and he played for Auburn during the 1982, 1983, 1984 & 1985 seasons. (He sat out of football in 1986 and only played baseball.) Bo Jackson

The "Bo Knows" ad campaign began in Summer 1989. "Coincidentally, the spot first aired during the commercial break immediately following Jackson's lead-off home run in the 1989 Major League Baseball All-Star Game." So the buttons do not date back any further than the summer of 1989. Bo Knows

During his time in the NFL, the only game in which Bo Jackson played Joe Montana (including both regular season and playoff games) was Los Angeles at San Fran on November 13, 1988, but that game was before the "Bo Knows" commercials. Even still, the Raiders won that game 9-3, so it's not from that game. NOTE: The Raiders' only playoff game during that time was during the 1990-91 season - the divisional playoff in January 1991 in which the Raiders beat the Bengals (and Bo got hurt), so it's not from that game either.

Based on the red/white color of the buttons, it could be their division rival the Kansas City Chiefs. The Raiders lost to Kansas City only 4 times while Bo was on the team (Dec. 13, 1987; Sept. 17, 1989; Nov. 4, 1990; and Nov. 25, 1990). However, the Chiefs did not have anyone named Joe from 1987 to 1990 (except Offensive Coordinator Joe Pendry).

The only teams that beat the Raiders between 1987 and 1990 and have/had red as a major color were the Atlanta Falcons (Nov. 20, 1988) and the Buffalo Bills (Dec. 11, 1988 and Oct. 7, 1990).
See previous links to 1987-1990 Raiders Rosters.

But, the game against the Bills in 1990 is the only one that was played after the "Bo Knows" campaign started. Even still, the only people named "Joe" on either team from 1987-1990 were Joe Devlin (OT-Buffalo) and Joe Costello (DE-Atlanta).

Does anyone see any other "red" teams that beat the Raiders from 1987 to 1990?

BASEBALL?
Bo Jackson played for the Kansas City Royals (1986 to 1991), the Chicago White Sox (1991 and 1993), and the California Angels (1994). He was on IR for all of the 1992 season. He only appeared in 23 games in 1991 and 85 games in 1993. It was with the White Sox that he made his only post-season appearance. In the 1993 ALCS, Chicago lost in 6 games to the Toronto Blue Jays (which is not a "red" colored team). His final baseball season (California Angels in 1994) but that season was cut short by the 1994–95 baseball strike, and Jackson decided to retire at age 32. Bo Jackson

I cannot imagine MLB fans making a button for a single regular season game or series, so let's look at his only post-season appearance against the Toronto Blue Jays in 1993. At that time, the star and highest paid player on the Blue Jays was Joe Carter (the only "Joe" on the team). However, his stats from the 1993 ALCS are not great at all. He only went 7 for 27 with 0 HR.

Game 2
Game 3
Game 4
Game 5
Game 6

So, even though the Blue Jays have only a tiny amount of red in the uniforms, and even though Joe Carter's stats were not that great, my best guess is that that the buttons were made after Joe Carter and the Blue Jays beat the White Sox in the 1993 ALCS. I simply cannot find any other team/game which they would have been made for.
In case you did not see the article posted on TD, it has been reported that Glen Davis has been charged With Felony Assault and faces up to 7 years in prison.

Wow. Felony assault charges. Not a good look considering he also was arrested in February in Maryland on suspicion of drug possession and distribution.

WTF Big Baby?!?!?

re: NCAA Infield Fly Rule Question

Posted by jmm276 on 4/11/18 at 12:13 pm
Not sure why nobody has actually consulted the NCAA Rule Book.

Regardless of what ACTUALLY happened in the game, here are the relevant rules:

(p.22) RULE 2 Definitions
(p.31) Infield Fly
SECTION 48. A fair fly ball (not including a line drive or an attempted bunt) that can be caught by an infielder with ordinary effort, when first and second or first, second and third bases are occupied before two are out. The pitcher, catcher and any outfielder who is positioned in the infield on the play shall be considered infielders for the purpose of this rule. In the case of a declared infield fly, the ball is live and runners may advance at their own risk. If a declared infield fly becomes a foul ball, it is treated the same as any foul.
Note: If a player intentionally drops a fair ball, the ball remains in play despite the provisions of 7-11-q. The infield fly rule takes precedence.

(p.64) RULE 7 Batting
(p.69) When Batter or Batter-Runner Is Out
SECTION 11. A batter is out when:
(p.71) j. An infield fly is declared (see Rule 2—Infield Fly);
(p.72) q. With fewer than two outs and first, first and second, first and third or first, second and third bases occupied, an infielder intentionally drops a batted or bunted fair fly ball or line drive. The ball is dead, and the runner or runners shall return to their original base or bases;
Note: The batter is not out if the ball drops untouched to the ground, except when the infield fly rule applies. If a declared infield fly is dropped intentionally or allowed to fall untouched, the batter is out, the ball is live and in play, and the runners may advance at their own risk. They do not need to retouch their bases.

(p.73) RULE 8 Base Running
(p.79) When Runners Are Out
SECTION 5. A runner is out when:
(p.81) k. The runner, including a runner in contact with a base, is hit while in fair territory by a batted ball before it has touched a fielder or passed all infielders who have a chance to make a play on the ball, other than the pitcher. If two runners are hit by the same fair ball, only the first runner is out (see 6-2-e).
Note 1 A runner who is touching a base when hit by an infield fly (see Rule 2—Infield Fly), is not out. If the runner is off a base and hit by an infield fly, both the runner and the batter are out; the ball is dead.
Note 2 A runner who, while touching a base, interferes with the fielder attempting to field a batted ball, is not out unless the umpire rules intentional interference. In this case, the batter is out if there are two outs. If there are less than two outs, both the batter and runner are out.

Anyone know why Russillo has LSU and Georgia helmets front and center on his TV show right now?

I'm in the middle of Phoenix. Where is the best sports bar and grill in or near Phoenix to watch the LSU basketball game?

re: LSU Collectors - what's it worth?

I have a football signed by all 3 of LSU's only coaches to win a football national championship. I promise it's real. I have a picture but just don't have a way to post it using a link. (If someone explains how to post the pic I'll do it.)

Any idea what something like that might be worth?

Thanks. I didn't realize that the listing on LSUSports.net shows the ranking as of the date of the game.

What about other teams? Anybody have any idea whether another team has played as many ranked opponents as LSU?

Baseball Opponents' Rankings

Posted by jmm276 on 5/16/13 at 12:19 pm
I see where Ole Miss is currently ranked 14 in one (or more) major poll. It seems that we have played a LOT of teams that were ranked in or near the top 15 (at least they were ranked that high when they played us). It got me thinking...

Does anybody have a list showing the ranking of each of LSU's opponents going into the weekend in which they played LSU? Does anybody know how that list compares to other teams? My guess is that very few teams have played as many ranked opponents, and any team that has played more is probably in the SEC!

If someone could post that info I would really appreciate it.
