A Guess at what’s going on inside Kiffin’s brain and decision making
Posted by Jeffreylebowski on 11/18/25 at 8:11 pm
Lane Kiffin is no dummy and has been around big time/the big stage college football for a long time. He knows that LSU, and UF are programs NIL era or pre NIL era, that can produce the opportunity to win more than 1 NC in a 15 year period. Besides Alabama, there’s only 2 programs with more than 2 NCs in the last 25 years= LSU and Ohio State.
That being said, he knows that if he were the coach, or he at least has the self belief, that he could win multiple NCs at LSU if he became the coach. Again, NIL at this point evens out, so LSU has NIL $$, so does UF and so does OM. What OM doesn’t have is the talent LSU does within 2.5 hrs from campus.
So IF he DOESN’T take the LSU job, he knows that LSU will get a really good coach that can put rosters together and develop the players, and that coach will have the chance to win multiple NCs. All the while he’ll have to coach against LSU and lose 7 or 8 of their next 10 games against LSU.
So, knowing all of that, having seen what it looks like, and how it’s down, and where the players are that everyone wants, wouldn’t LK rather not pass up LSU?
Am I being too logical? Basically what I’m getting at is if Kiffin is who we think he is, and knows what he knows, talks to who we think he talks to, wouldn’t his thought be “I’m and idiot if I don’t take the LSU job”.

You went 10-3, missing playoff or not, that wasn’t going to warm things up. You guys will be getting out the lighter fluid if he goes 8-4 /7-5 in consecutive seasons. You misunderstand my post apparently. What got Kelly fired at LSU this year was going 8-4 last year, and starting out this season with 3 losses before Nov. “IF” Kiffin goes 8-4 in 2026, and starts 2027 out at say 3-3 in October, there would be some unhappy people at Ole Miss, just like there would be at LSU. Point is, you have to win at certain level wherever you go or you’re out.
Kiffin : Pressure to win at Ole Miss v Pressure at LSU

As it plays into Kiffin’s decision, or another coach at a “smaller” or “lesser” school than LSU, the pressure divide isn’t that wide. This is used as a reason to say he’d be crazy to leave Ole Miss, but it’s not an accurate narrative. Ole Miss people, alum, booster think they can be and should be Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Ohio State, Texas….
If Lane goes 8-4 next year, and starts out 3-3 the next season, his seat would start to simmer. Mississippi State would be patient, but not Ole Miss. Especially after they’ve tasted 10 win seasons lately.
If he stays at Ole Miss it’ll be because he loves it there and for money plain and simple. The whole more pressure at LSU or Florida doesn’t exist. Their fans are delusional, and will want him gone if mediocrity settles in for a season or 2.

This is going to happen in some form/application. Skynet will be able to predict plays within a certain degree of probability in real time. No doubt it will be able to allow teams to prepare for offensive/defensive tendencies better than without it.

I’m as conservative as they come and I agree with this. I’d vote for a Democrat for sure instead of him next time.

Bjork gave Jimbo the extension, NOT WOODWARD. Uninformed idiots can’t help themselves.

Woodward. Governor needs to guard what he says. Speak on the macro issues of college sports and contracts, but shut his mouth on micro LSU issues - AD, and Coach hire. He’s sensationalizing all of this and is making himself look like a doofus.

None of that has anything to do with the football /athletic budget. The yuppies moving into Austin TX or the Green Hills neighborhood in Nashville aren’t boosting UT or UTenn’s football budget. ESPN, Nike, Ticket Sales, clothing sales, are doing that. If you can have 100k people show up to your stadium for a game, which LSU can, you’re one of the wealthiest brands in all of sports.

We aren’t “broke”. That garbage keeps getting kicked around by people that have no clue how much cash flows through an athletic budget , especially the football program, at LSU, Bama, Georgia. Those are 3 of the biggest sports brands, not only in the SEC but in all of sports, and top 5 in college football. The LSU athletic department is FAR from broke.

He didn’t seem to be very good, but who knows what Kelly dictated in game prep. Also Nuss and the O-Line limited everything, and Kelly wouldn’t sit Nuss when he was hurt, and/or playing bad.
None of those points mean he should’ve been the OC, but it definitely made it harder to dial things up.

They had the bad stars align against them in a couple of games. Everyone gets bad flags/reviews/calls go against them, they had 3 of those in the Oklahoma game right out of the gate. They could be 6-2 right now without bad calls, and their players play hard and are gritty. Seemingly team culture is good and getting better. Complete opposite of what started happening with LSU. Freeze has them going in right direction, just doesn’t reflect in the record.
