re: Ten reasons OU wins Sugar Bowl

 This thread is gold. But I can't say I would have disagreed with anything said before Thursday night.

Oh, I agree that the Aggies were a tougher team in the Cotton Bowl, due to playing in the SEC. But they still played Florida a hell of a lot closer than they would have in 2011. I just don't think the SEC can take credit for A&M's success LAST YEAR. By all means, take credit for their success going forward, since their recruiting has obviously spiked. And yes, our defense was awful, although I thought we played well in the first half against y'all. Then the floodgates opened.

Do you truly believe that A&M was that much better simply because they had an SEC patch on their uniform? After just one offseason of being in the conference? Really? Not because of Sumlin or Johnny Football?

And hell yeah we paid athletes back then, but here's the kicker: EVERYONE ELSE DID TOO. To suggest that we were paying players and everyone else were "amateurs" is laughable. Wasn't MSU one of the bidders on Cam Newton?

and 10 years ago Oklahoma wasn't on LSU's level. You're proving our point

I mentioned Bama 10 years ago to point out that talking about games from a decade ago doesn't have any bearing on who's "ahead of everyone else" right now. IMO, Bama is on another level right now. That doesn't mean that someone like LSU or UGA can't jump up there and take their spot soon. We'll just have to wait and see what happens, that's why college football is second to none.

As for us not being on your level in 03, I thought we looked pretty even considering we played in NOLA and our QB had two bum knees he was hobbling around on. Perhaps you saw it differently.

Still hold the record for longest winning streak. What is it 46 games? That is unreal. I don't care who you play, it's tough to win 46 games PERIOD.
Can't wait till we play yall in a few years.

Ahem, 47. But who's counting? We also have another one that's over 30. And I also cannot wait for our series, it'd be a shame if it was at that corporate abortion known as Jerryworld. I was there for the Cotton Bowl, and I spent half of that massacre watching the Jumbotron, which I could have done at home (with an OFF button, too). I've never been to Death Valley, and I hope I can make it there. We also have series against Tennessee (would love to see Neyland), Ohio State, and Nebraska coming up. You can say we choke, but you can't say we're scared to schedule big names.

Florida won two in three. LSU won two with two different coaches. Bama has lost a few games, and needed some luck to get there. The narrative that the SEC dominance is solely Crimson Tide dick riding is a fallacy. Plenty of SEC teams are capable of winning the natty. There were 6 SEC teams I think would have rocked Notre Dame.

I see your point, but you're going back 10 years for some of those games. 10 years ago Bama wasn't on OU's level, and we've seen how quickly that's flipped. I'm not saying the SEC dominance has been a Tide dick riding, but I do think Bama is in another class as of now. Yes, they've been lucky, but every champion is lucky. LSU won both in their backyard and had 2 losses in 2007. Florida could have been left out in 2006 (not saying they should have been, but y'all remember everyone clamoring for OSU-Mich Part II), and I still think OU should have won in 08 (obviously Gator fans will disagree).

I don't think you can overestimate how well Saban prepares his team. I do agree that ND would have lost to A&M, but the other SEC teams' bowl games didn't make me believe that they would have dominated ND like Bama did.

Might as well quadruple my post count.

For years, OU has been allowed to thrive off the backs of Texas High School Football

We'd truly be the dumb redneck Okies that Texans think we are if we were neighbors with a +26 million populated, football loving state and DIDN'T recruit from it. But I actually have been saying for years that we tend to overlook homegrown Oklahoma talent and go after the Texas and California kids too much. Most people don't know that 4 of our 5 Heismans and the majority of all 7 national championship teams were born and raised in Oklahoma. For a state with less than 4 million people, we do pretty well. I get it though, I'd be a little ticked too if another state came in and snatched recruits away from the Oklahoma schools year after year.

I don't agree, considering a weak Texas wiped the floor with Ole Miss last year (yeah, I know Ole Miss improved throughout the year, that game in Austin should be fun to watch). And are you talking about the same Arkansas team that damn near lost to Tulsa at home last year? Norman would burn if that happened to OU.

No, we aren't on Bama's level, but who is? No one, not even the other SEC teams.

Don't post here much, but this applies to me, I suppose. Ostrich, you're fooling yourself if you think A&M isn't on a huge upswing right now. They beat our arse, give them credit. I hope their success makes our brass work their arse off. Our program is stale right now, we need to put some work in to get back to where we want to be.

And we're a 'midwest' school? fricking what? Everyone I know would consider that an insult (I forgive you cause you're a Texan, and you don't know any better). OK is a mix of Texas and Arkansas, neither of which is Midwest. We fit into the SEC more than any other conference, including the shitty one we're in now. We should have joined with A&M, but our liberal President had a hard-on for the Left Coast. You seriously want the B1G? Seriously? That'd be worse than the Pac-12, at least its not cold as shite there and they don't play slow-white-man football. Road trips to Tuscaloosa, Baton Rouge, Knoxville, etc. and tailgating with people who are like us OR freezing our arse off up north? How about getting called "redneck hicks" by the snobs out west (like Stanford fans did to the OSU crowd at the Fiesta Bowl)? That's not even mentioning the travel distance/time zones, which makes the SEC even more attractive. Hmmm, let me think about which conference sounds the best... It's too bad we'll probably never join, thanks to our ball-and-chain (the Ag school in Stillwater).

And even though I don't give a damn how good our conference is academically (I watch the other schools' athletes play football, I don't watch their Engineering students take tests), OU would be in the top half of the SEC. Those rankings are subjective as hell, the only schools clearly above us are Vandy, A&M, UF, UGA, and Mizzou.

Oh, and SEC baseball is the shite, so that'd be a huge plus for me if we joined. Believe me, most people here want the SEC, but we have a few yahoos (who I bet have no ties to the Southeast) who think we need to go west for some stupid reason. I've never heard B1G before. As for what Stoops said, he's just trying to make the best of the situation. Everyone agrees that the SEC is the best overall, we just get tired when the shitty teams in your conference flex their cocks when Bama wins yet another championship.

And that's all I have to say about that. Sorry for the novel.
Well, if I had my way, we would have bolted with A&M back last year and kept UT and OSU on the schedule as non-conference opponents every year. It may seem like a death wish, but I'm getting a Chris Matthews tingle-up-my-leg just thinking about how much fun that schedule would be.

And I know OSU has absolutely no value and our state is relatively small, but y'all might not realize that OKC and Tulsa are two of the highest-rated markets for college football. HERE Right up there with the Alabama crew and those couch burners in Ohio.

Not sure if that link worked since I'm a first timer, but it shows that we Okies live and breathe football as much our southeastern brethren do, so I feel like we'd fit in just fine (not to mention we'd be 2nd in National Championships behind Bama). You would think we'd fit in a hell of lot better than Mizzou. Try calling an Oklahoman a Yankee and see how he reacts to that. I was a little shocked y'all took them, but to each his own.

Sorry for the TLDR, just my humble opinion. It'll probably never happen since we can't seem to leave our Ag school behind (they love to talk shite, but they're fellow Oklahomans and we look out for one another). Oh well, a man can dream, can't he?
