re: Fox Sports writer/UF grad: Muschamp and Auburn close to a deal
Posted by Fishwrap Monger on 12/12/14 at 2:15 pm
Talking with a UGA grad/coworker of mine this morning, who sounded almost disappointed that Pruitt turned out well for them this year. His thinking was that Pruitt is the type of coach that will be in-line for a HC job somewhere in the not-too-distant future, and will bounce at the opportunity… dismissing some of the obvious coaching improvements Pruitt brought to the defense. All he would talk about is how Muschamp could make the rest of his career at UGA, potentially learning from Richt & taking over as HC at the right time.
I felt like he wasn't sold on the idea that Pruitt is Richt's missing puzzle piece to get to a national title. To me, Muschamp is a great DC, but he doesn't have magic fairy dust in his back pocket… Pruitt can do the job at UGA with the right talent.
Does that make sense to you guys? Is Muschamp really that much better than everyone else as a defensive coach?
Sorry I'm off topic.

True. And the whole conference has reaped benefits, including S. Carolina. It's one of many reasons the whole program has seen remarkable improvement under Spurrier.

Truth. OBS? Been spending too much time at taternet.
Meh. I don't have to like the guy to respect his abilities. Clearly a hall-of-fame football coach.

Not to take anything away from OBS... but Ellis Johnson, Lorenzo Ward, and gargantuan SEC payouts should get some cred as well.

No, but his old man can tell him all about the glory of Tommy Bowden and the late 90s. So, there's that, I guess.
What's more impressive than your win streak vs. Clemson is your bowl record under OBC. He has more bowl wins (4) in just eight seasons than all previous coaches combined (3).

If the BCS did not have bowl tie-ins and you could have more than 2 teams from the same conference in the BCS games, then Dabo wouldn't be able to boast his teams accomplishments. USCe won the head to head and if it came to it USCe should have been included over Clemson.
Maybe Tennessee should have been in the running too, then.

Not thrilled about Dabo's reply... he didn't really need to say anything at all. It should be no surprise that Spurrier says dikcbag things to get a rise out of people, and Swinney continues to make himself a pretty easy target for that.
Dabo's best asset is as an emotional motivator (the anti-Richt), which is also his biggest fault. Spurrier's biggest asset is... umm... he's the Tommy Bowden of SCAR. So, he wins big games in an effort to gloss over pathetic losses. Clearly that's also his biggest fault (except to those with exceedingly low expectations.)

SOS calculations in the computers will affect the BCS. Voters, influenced by "SEC detractors", will affect it even more. Perception matters to voters, and won-lost records of other SEC teams matter to the computers that will be rating the SEC Champion against other conference champions with equal records.
So, if the trend continues a 1-loss SEC champion doesn't get an auto-bid to the BCS national championship?

You know... because he loves to bug the crap out of the rant.

Last week, Clemson represented the ACC by defending its home turf against the then-fifth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs. Today, Miami (FL) did the same, knocking off the Florida Gators in one of the biggest non-conference matchups of the year. Both results apparently excite Tigers coach Dabo Swinney. According to CUTigers.com’s Greg Wallace, Swinney threw up the “U” symbol on the way out of his post-game press conference today – he also called the ACC “spunky”.
Dabo: “How about that ACC? Spunky little old league?” Then he makes “The U” sign as he walks out. — Greg Wallace (@gc_wallace) September 7, 2013 RT @trentacker: @gc_wallace to be clear, did that actually happen? // Saw it with my own eyes. — Greg Wallace (@gc_wallace) September 7, 2013 Sure, Clemson and Miami (FL) are hardly bitter rivals, but this is still pretty wild. I thought it was only an SEC thing to root for your fellow conference mates?

I feel that it's the media... the media are most upset at themselves for criticizing Clowney. If they had shown some restraint, they could have milked this Clowney-is-lazy thing for months on end. As it stands, they blew their wad week 1 and will have to invent all new headlines about him for week 2.
To add, the only things more pathetic than media self-hate are the French and mustard-based BBQ... two key ingredients of the SCAR fanbase.

UGA 28, SCAR 24
Also, Clowney leaves on a gurney in the 2nd quarter after he inadvertently swallows Aaron Murray whole.

Once again the SECr surprises me. By now, I thought at least one of you would say that UGA deserves to fall out of the top 25 completely after losing to an ACC team.
Seemed like a softball question, honestly.

I bet if you search the internet, you might find historical records that date prior to A.D. 2009. Just fire up that Hayes modem & dial into your AOL account, as you sit on the toilet that was specially configured with a side table to house your prized 1998 turquoise iMac G3. Tap in the words "Clemson South Carolina Rivalry" into your preferred search engine, as you grunt out another poorly-formed stool of thought into the basin. Don't flush---that's just your next message board post awaiting deployment.
After a few minutes of furious, sweaty, finger-tapping, I believe you will finally obtain the answer to the question you've been searching for, your whole life...

Another question for you, SECR peanut gallery:
Do you think UGA's shaky situation at kicker could actually turn out to be an advantage?
Vegas thinks this is going to be pretty high scoring game. Give the UGA offense 4 downs in what would normally be field-goal range, and it may result in some backbreaking TD's on the CU defense.
Y/N?
