re: The NCAA should get rid of the Red Shirt
Posted by BAMAFANONBEACH on 11/22/13 at 11:41 am
I am for the sitting out a year if transferring rule for many reasons....
1. discipline - if a big headed recruit doesn't get what he wants, he could just transfer - way too damaging to the current discipline issue now.
2. trading - imagine players transferring "mid season" because a star player gets hurt and a team making a run at the NC "needs" a player... may seem extreme now, but if you make transferring easier, it will promote the transferring more and may actually promote some "trading" indirectly - this is college, not the pros

the current rules allow 5 years to play 4 for all players. the term "red shirt" is not an official NCAA term and mostly used to do nothing more than identify that a player has not played a previous year for any particular reason.....
It allows for missing a year for injury, transferring, or just needing an extra year of development before seeing the field.

re: do i have this right - SEC Championship scenarios?

thanks for helping clarify that for me.
Didn't see UK beating Georgia so didn't really take that into consideration.
I have no idea who larry alter is, but I promise I'm not him.... I have this username on several sites, just don't post much here...

do i have this right - SEC Championship scenarios?

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I haven't seen it....
SEC East in the SEC championship:
If Mizzou wins out there in obviously, but if they don't...
For USCe to go, they would need Mizzou to lose at least one game and AU to beat UGA?
For UGA to go, they would need Mizzou to lose both and a win over AU?
Do I have this correct? thanks

re: Can someone explain to me what "Bama processes their players" means, please?

greyshirts are counted in the next years class, so they get counted and are included in the above numbers.....

No team can be the best team every year.
I felt like Bama was the better team last year even though they lost to LSU (the best team doesn't always win)
I felt LSU would be the better team this year and would win the BCSNG and am a little surprised they didn't live up to that this year.
I like and prefer the BIG games - saturday was the most fun game of the season for me. That game defines why college football is better IMO than the NFL.
So, to answer your question, I say load up and bring it on!

re: LSU exposed Bama's weaker secondary

I really don't think your secondary is weak. Despite our receivers' lack of ideal size, and at times hands and concentration, they've typically run pretty good routes. They were out to prove something last night and they did against the best D in the country. I would be very surprised if any team on the remainder of your schedule is able to do what LSU did last night solely because a balanced offense is the only way to play a defense like Bama's.

One thing I think most people are realizing is this is the first time this year Bama couldn't stop the run game with it's base defense and had to make adjustments - got Bama out of their usual defense packages and I think the biggest reason they seemed off - maybe because it was the first time they were out of their comfort zone. It had a profound effect on the defense. Also, when blitzing, Bama tends to have the DB's keep everything in front of them, willing to give up the catch, but not the big play. There was a lot of that last night as the blitz was mostly ineffective.
Like others have said, many times the DB's were in position - not all the time, but mostly. They also never gave up the deep ball - i'm not totally convinced part of the game may have been to bend but not break once they realized Mett was having the game of his career....

Mett had the game of his life and AJ had one of the worse (except last drive of both halves of course).

Just because AJ had a bad night and Mett had a career night in a single game doesn't mean they would play the same if the teams played again.
LSU definately played well enough to win the game, but LSU didn't dominate Bama across the board, they dominated Bama in the passing game. Bama's running game was far superior last night gaining more yardage on HALF the attempts. Bama got the stops when they needed them throughout the game, LSU didn't.
