re: Did you know German & Italian WW2 POWs were imprisoned in the US?

There was one in Kaplan.. The remnants of the camp buildings were on the street behind my house. As a kid we would play on the old beams that made up the flooring structure. The POWs would work in the rice fields in the surrounding area. My grandfather told me that they integrated very well with the locals.
I think there is an exhibit on the POWs in the Kaplan museum.

I worked with a guy about 20 years ago that had to fly over the area from Holly Beach to Lake Charles. He would find the bodies by looking for red spots in the marsh...bodies had turned red from bloating and the sun. He would radio in locations so rescue could find bodies....

Was hired on as a contractor in Natchez Mississippi and the lead supervisor was a lady from the Mississippi piney woods and and Ole Miss fan. When she heard my Cajun accent, she started calling me Crawfishcharlie...I liked it so I decided to keep it....

Herman Johnson
Johnson weighed 15 pounds and 14 ounces at birth, making him the largest baby ever born in Louisiana, and only a few ounces short of the Texas record-holder.
