put an SSD in it.
Thanks. That's certainly the easiest option. I just didn't know if it was worth it from a value standpoint to have more money tied up in a machine that's approaching the cliff in terms of what it's going to be worth in the future., especially if I could sell it and the peripherals I don't need amymore and get a newer machine for the same money as the SSD.
Replace or upgrade aging MacBook Pro?
Posted by Shoat Nuff on 1/10/15 at 7:17 pm
I've got a mid-2010 MBP (13 inch, 2.4 Ghz core 2 duo, 320 GB 5400 drive, aftermarket 8GB RAM) which used to be my only computer, but thanks to my new imac I only use it for mobile computing for work and don't keep many files on it. I had considered putting a 128-250GB SSD in it, but thought it might be better to sell it and buy a used Newer MBP with SSD on craigslist.
1) Better to go for the new computer rather than spend money on the upgrade?
2) What kind of money should I try to get for the MBP? I know they hold their value, but just don't know how much.
3) somebody local on craigslist is selling a 13 inch Retina MBP 2.5GHz i5, 8GB, 128GB SSD asking $989. From what I can tell its a late 2012 or early 2013 model. I'm assuming they gave themselves room to negotiate, bit don't really know if it's a good deal or not.
4) before purchasing my imac I used my MBP as a pseudo desktop by hooking it to a 22" monitor, 3TB external drive, wireless keyboard and mouse, etc. if I bundle my MBP with the monitor and peripherals how close will the value be to the retina macbook mentioned above?
I know that's a ton of info and questions. Thanks in advance for any and all help. I appreciate it.

re: More proof that iOS 8 was Apple's worst OS launch ever
Posted by Shoat Nuff on 10/7/14 at 8:45 am
I think one of the biggest reasons for the slow adoption is Apple's attempt to use iOS8's poor support and functionality on older handsets to push people to get new ones.
I think that the word has gotten around that if you have a device idler than a 5S or iPad Air, then you can expect a big slow down if you upgrade to iOS 8. In addition, since many of true new features of IOS 8 aren't supported on older handsets, what is supposed to be the motivation for upgrade?

Probably doesn't have a loaded chamber indicator. They're mandatory in the people's republic.

The EU has already stated that if Scotland gains independence they will not qualify for automatic membership to the EU. In a sense they are also seceding from the EU.

Perfect timing, right before the Scotland vote. It's like they're trying to remind the Scott's why they should secede.

I wonder if her parents declare the income they earn off renting the basement to Mary. If not an audit may be in order.

A lot of that military hardware is given to them by the federal government. The pentagon said they gave out $500 million in hardware and grants to local and state police forces just last year.
Remember Obama saying in 2008 that "we can't continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we have set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded."
Here's a LINK to a video describing how the federal government has been building a domestic army with standardized equipment, tactics, and training.

re: Nick Gillespie of Reason: Cops should wear cameras 24/7

I think this is a great idea, especially since so many PDs seem to be embracing the idea of putting cameras up in public places and filming e general public 24/7 and even using this surveillance to issue citations as they do with traffic cams. What's good for e goose is good for the gander. They don't have a leg to stand on in their opposition to being recorded.

Not saying I have a problem with the business model in general, just that it goes against his own principals. Never said it was wrong, just hypocritical. I'd bet good money jones has put a good deal of effort into not having his own web traffic tracked.

Java-scripts. Some make websites work, others track you. I disable the tracking scripts. Some websites are purposely designed so that they won't load content with the tracking scripts disabled. Alex Jones stream is one of them. I think this is hypocritical considering his political viewpoints. Clear?

I think it's a little messed up that Jones feed is the only one that won't work without allowing a shite ton of tracking scripts. I've allowed like 13 scripts and 20 or so more are trying to run and still can't get video. You'd think if anybody would be against internet tracking it'd be Alex Jones.
