Man, everyone is a little butt hurt.
JLS knows his place. He was obviously told that he has 10 months and that his coordinators were to coach. We will win 8-10 games, and we will get a splash hire for 2013.
Jeff Long has millions to spend (especially with a discount coach this year), a good team and a great complex. He will be talking to the best coaches in the country over the next 10mo, and even if JSL wins the NC... Jeff Long will know that it was CBP's team, staff and game plan.
With that said, recruiting won't be killed. Ohio State set a precedent. If we hire a big-time coach, he will petition the NCAA to skip the bowl game and recruit.
We are in 10000x better position than we were 4 years ago when CBP took the team. He left it in great shape and its only going to get better from here.

Ha. Well, Hes goofy as shite. But, I did get one thing out of it - Hes definitely CEO. He was told to let the coordinators coach and that he had 10 months.

If your taking the 'personal obligation to players/close bonds' approach...
Would you not assume that he has more personal bonds with the UA's rising seniors, juniors, sophomores and incoming freshman that he recruited and coached for three years...
or the Weber state team, that he hadn't recruited... and only coached for four months. A four month period where he was moving, getting accustomed to a new staff, new facilities, new names...
I'm assuming his personal relationships were not all that close.

He left Weber State without a head coach. Weber State.
One more time, so that we're clear. Weber State. He had been there for four months. He had not recruited a single player, and there are about 1/2 a million coaches available to coach in that capacity.
There was maybe two that could coach in Arkansas' situation.

Again, Jeff Long handed out a 10mo contract. That means he will spend the next year talking to various big name coaches.
Even if J. Smith takes UA to the NC, Jeff Long will know that 1. he did it with Petrino's team and 2. that he has around $5mil/year to buy the best coach available.

Can't beat em... hire him ~
Haha, I don't think Saban would jump ship for UA. Alabama would top anything we had to offer him. Therefore, any talk about Saban is mostly out of humor than anything else.

Exactly, I think he has a larger personal obligation to our players than to Weber State's

Smith was at Weber for 4 months. He didn't he recruit the freshman class. But, he had been on UA staff for the three years prior to that 4 months.
It was essentially promoting within.
.... would it have been better to take a coach that had been with a team for five years?

We will be fine. 9-10 wins, with a splash hire at the end.

Why is everyone crying about recruiting?

More BS. If the guy loses one game and wins SEC, he will be back. Don't care what he or Long say.
I don't know. A 10mo contract says (1) that Long is actively seeking candidates; (2) he didn't spend any money on this hire and firing CBP... and has a ton of money to throw at a new coach; and (3) if we win the SEC, there will be plenty of big name coaches calling about the Job.
I'm going to assume Long will consider the future of the program, and will not base this on Smith's one year tenure coaching Petrino's team.

Johnson/Haynes havn't been there long enough to have legitimate animosity and PPetrino is in a delicate situation. He never had a shot at the job any ways.

Its a 10mo contract.
why is everyone crying? But, please, go a head. I think the more grief Long gets, the more willing he will be to throw 6 million at Saban ~

Its a solid hire. Long keeps the system as petrino-esque as possible for the 2012 season and then gets an 'Urban Meyer' Hire for 2013. CUM (ha) set a precedent, new coach will recruit while JL smith attends to the bowl preparation.
10 month contract. We couldn't expect to steal a top 5 coach twice in a row.

Urban Meyer set a precedent. If long sticks to the plan and gets a big hire at the end of next season... the recruits will come.

When does ACC plan to release conference schedule?
UA has possible dates @ either 9/22 or 10/20. Neither of those have been schedule for FSU... I dont know much about ACC scheduling.
FSU non-con schedule
For whatever reason, I keep thinking their going to put Houston up for the game (not marquee... just for this season). Mainly because they have an open spot; they're in the texas market; would like the possibility to play at dallas; and lastly... they will be a rent-a-win that had a decent season last year.
Houston schedule
FSU would be awesome; I'd personally like to see a marquee game with a cali team (stanford/UCLA) - national teams that we could beat regularly and give us some california exposure.

How long before SEC incorporates sechc? ever? I had forgotten about it since it started.

Auburn - 8-4 with losses to Clemson, LSU, UGA, Bama
Bama will lose 2 (LSU, Arky)
Arky will lose 1 (LSU)
LSU finishes what it couldn't this year at 14-0
I appreciate the 1-loss Arky prediction (would be nice to pull one out on bama). but, if your predicting our only lose is to LSU... you have to assume Auburn will Lose to Arky as well? ~

Assume we are not getting Neal. Especially if you have a history of heart conditions.
