I am in Geneva County Al right on the Florida line. Went through Ivan, and Michael and had tree damage for both but the rain wasn't too bad. This bitch Sally has dumped rain like I have never seen in my life. And to the poster that asked how horses do in this weather I just had to get 3 out of their stalls and put them in a pasture where maybe they can get on some high ground. Let's just say they are a little "sporty" right now. I wouldn't really want to saddle one up right now. Cows on the other hand are just in the middle of the pastures just standing there. Damn cows are dumb
I haven't done any but I am amazed by fractal wood burning Youtube link if you haven't seen it
I bet that wind chime on the corner of the house got annoying as hell!
Hugo in Mount Pleasant SC. One of the scariest things I have ever been through and promised myself never again. Forgot about that promise to myself and went through Michael in Chipley Fl. It can be a cat 1/2 and I am a gone arse.
We call those Neverlast. I have welded with a couple of them and every time have had a problem with something.
I like the Pulsed MIG on 1/8 inch and up but I hate being married to one process. For thinner stuff it's tig all day for me. Not to mention if I want to weld some carbon together I just swap leads and tungsten and get to welding. Lincoln has come up with a multi process machine that is pulse mig compatible but i haven't welded with one yet. I have been a Lincoln fan for years. Lincoln Flextec 500X Pulsed MIG Multi Process

I bought a black bull Monday at the sale. But I plan on making him a slave to about 30 ladies so I guess I am out :dunno:

I know our exports (weight wise) are just about even to our imports and the quality of our exports outshines what we import. I think by halting everything except Canada and Mexico it would go a long way towards restoring balance from the excessive supplies of fed cattle on hand. As producers time is on our side we can wait it out. I do feel bad bad for the stockers with cattle on feed. One good thing I guess is that carcass weights are going up. The heavier over finished cattle are also holding the quality grade higher than normal for this time of year.
Really interested in what you think about this Trump talking about stopping imports
I personally think that needs to be done except for Canada and Mexico. Halt New Zealand, South America, and Australia imports. I believe as a producer we are fixing to get into unsupportable calf prices due to rise in all of our input costs. Processors will be watching box prices fall as slaughter volumes increase and will stop supporting the fed market. Feedlots will adjust prices to stocker and feeder cattle which will fall to the producer.

Ez corn creamer

I know a lot of people are getting close to harvest of sweet corn so I just wanted to share a little experience. I bought the system 4 years ago and I absolutely love it. I just creamed a bushel of bicolor corn in an hour and a half.

If you buy from the store, it’s likely coming from Brazil or Argentina

This is just false. More than likely you are buying US beef. And that's the problem without cool you don't know what you are buying. We just now lifted the ban on Brazilian beef. The ban was put on them in 2017. Argentina was banned for 17 years and it was lifted in 2018. What we import from Argentina isn't really shite. We import beef in this order
Canada
Australia
Mexico
New Zealand
The rest don't add up to crap

I found my break even at about 75 head. I have a little over 250 now. You can scratch out a living but it would be hard. I supplement that with row crop and some produce. Funny thing is I might make 25 grand a year doing all that. Most of my expense is payroll cause I actually work a regular job and have to hire out labor. The repeal of the COOL act in 2015 is what is killing the little man right now.

Grocery store ground beef

What you would be buying

Local rancher sells to feed lot. Feed lot gets them ready to butcher and sells to packer. Packer then sells wholesale

Because more often than not (according to the farmer and his feed techniques) you will be getting a much better product. I said that 7.70/ pound was high but realize the cuts you are getting it's not just 6.00 a pound ground beef. Go buy select cuts of the beef you would get and look at those prices per pound. I bet it would average out to about 7.50/ pound.

First off thefarmer has to set up appointment with a usda butcher in order to sell the beef. At this point most are swamped. The fastest I can get one in is in December around here. 7.70/pound is pretty damn high but not much higher than the store. Here is last weeks prices on the hoof
SLAUGHTER CLASSES

COWS

High Dressing up to 79.00

Breakers up to 71.00

Lean up to 70.00

Bulls up to 94.00

Stocker Classes

Bred Cows up to 1,025.00

Cow Calf Pairs up to 1,300.00

The poor cattle farmer getting less than a dollar a pound so who is getting the other? It's the butcher and the packers that are driving these prices sky high

First of that was solid advice by 69. Structural welders are a dime a dozen so if she washes out on pipe her chance for success really gets limited. Some people have it some don't. That's what I love about apprenticeship programs. They are tought all facets of their respected trades. Take pipe fitting for example, they are taught hvac, instrumentation, plumbing, welding, fitting, rigging just to name a few. And from that teaching they can make a choice as to what they want to do.
