re: 2025 Hummingbird Season

I am 45 minutes South of Tupelo and am gaining birds every couple days. Got up to swarm status last year. Hope they return in the next couple weeks.
Getting started a good place to buy wood for this offset is Academy. They have several varieties, I always start out with charcoal to get the smoker heated up and then add wood when I start cooking and monitor as it goes along. I enjoy the process, also gives me an excuse to sit and sip bourbon.
Went through this with my father-in-law. His son and my wife(no pics) took his keys after he kept getting the brake and accelerator mixed up due to nephropathy in his feet. He hit a couple things going backward instead of forward or vice versa. He complained to me and tried to get me to intervene on his behalf. I wouldn't so he got mad at me. Shortly thereafter he had other health complications and went to the nursing home and never got out. Was hard but necessary.

Estimated attendance of 40,000 this year, down from 45,000 last year.

Railbird Music Festival

Attended the Railbird Music Festival in Lexington, KY this past weekend and had a blast. Saw several of the young up and comers and some of my favorites. Ryan Bingham is really good live, Wyatt Flores was really good too. Sierra Ferrel is alot of fun. Music is in good hands. Festival was well organized and plenty of food and drink options. Transportation plan could use a little improvement but wasn't unmanageable. All the stages sound set ups were good too. Nice way to spend some time in the Bluegrass state.

4 part water : 1 part sugar
Yes, I smoked for years and just the thought of a cigarette can trigger the urge. I know people that have quit but can have one every now and then. I cannot, total abstinence is the only way I can keep the cravings at bay. I like bourbon and wish I could have a cigar with a pour but I know better. Alcohol
however doesn't have the same hold on me. I can drink or not drink, no issue. I have gambled in the past but recognized that I enjoyed it a little too much so I steer clear of it.

They are in east Mississippi too.
Sidicous,
Pretty sure we are related. Can be no coincidence that I have an Uncle Jr that did the same thing. Jr had 2 sisters I am the youngest ones only son.
I like to smoke them for awhile then finish over direct heat. I have an offset that I can put a grate over the fire to finish things with.

Going to my 40th in a couple weeks. We have one every 10 years. My family moved away right after I graduated so I enjoy going back to see old friends. Went to a very small school so it is always a relaxed low key event
That is the coolest story I have read in a while. Thank you for sharing.
I have seen them 3 times and am going to see them play the Ryman in June. Really looking forward to that.
