I know he says to ignore exchange rates and such for the example. But I guess even if GB exchanged USD to Germany and Germany to Spain eventually those dollars would be used by someone to by goods from us?

Question,
Speaking of the Tariff chapter which is what I just finished. Hazlitt states that if we buy the less costly sweater at 25$ from Great Britain then they will have more US dollars to buy exports from us. What happens if they choose to use those dollars in trade with another country rather than the US. Wouldn't we be worst off in that case then if the 5$ duty was in place.

I read through chapter 4 and I have been pondering public works and how different people view the success of tax payer funded projects. I agree that their is a necessity of basic taxation to be used on projects that Hazlitt mentioned (infrastructure, policeman, fireman).
It may just be me but because of my background I think the perfect balance of doing charitable works to benefit the community is the governments responsibility but that of the Churches regardless of denomination.
I tend to see people that don't have any religious affiliation be more prone to praise a government undertaking when according to Hazlitt the government has no business doing.
I feel as though a fundamental pillar of the American economy prospered on this ideal that government provides necessary services and a common framework and that the Churches provide help to the common man of their respective communities through charitable endeavors.

Maybe a slack channel would be beneficial but I don't have an objection either way.
I also think we should be able to just comment or begin discussing whenever each reader sees fit. I get excited by certain thoughts and have veracity to discuss but as the moment passes I lose the fire and ability to convey.
Maybe try to preface what you are discussing by chapter or section like bayoubengals suggested.

I tempted to buy back in and say screw it.
But I feel like it is this exact feeling which will get me burned. I'm torn.

Would you say it is imperative to get an MBA from a highly regarded school or would getting one from LSU suffice?

It seemed to point out that even innovated trading strategies will over time always be adjusted to by the market. So always be ever mindful in updating your winning ways to a new winning way because it won't stay that way forever. No I do not currently watch numberphile but I may look into it.

I'm a young mechanical engineer in the nuclear industry and I just recently got really excited about economics and finance and I am currently reading the "The Intelligent Investor" I'm on chapter four lol. I would like to join the group. I don't know if I will be able to keep up constantly but I would definitely like to hang around.

re: This is a spin off from the retirement thread. Realistic retirement numbers?
Posted by RickySauwce on 6/2/17 at 3:52 pm
Pure estimation lol. I have negative net wealth at the moment.
That's why I'm coming here to ask.
I wanna retire early and not be a slave all of my life. I want a family as well. You think me and wife could live like a king off of that ?
