re: Arkansas next year
Posted by Warpig0204 on 12/2/11 at 5:51 pm
In terms of talent, I think Arkansas will be very similar to the 2010 and 2011 teams. Catch some breaks, 10+ wins. No breaks 8-9 wins at worst.
Next year, we'll have a veteran o-line w/ quality depth, an experienced QB that should easily improve on a very impressive initial campaign, and Davis, Johnson, and Wingo all return at HB. The WRs save Hamilton will be inexperienced, but there's a ton of talent there. Arkansas is leading for the nation's top WR in Dorial Green-Beckam and don't sleep on redshirt WR Quinta Funderburk. Throw in an elite TE like Gragg and Bobby's offense should be more balanced than 2011, a la 2010. I expect Arkansas again to have one of the top offenses in the nation.
Defensively, Arkansas should be no worse on the D-line. Bequette hurts, but Trey Flowers will replace him rather seemlisly. Kid is a beast and got a lot of PT w/ Jake and Tank missing a lot of games. Alonzo Highsmith is back at LB and a big playmaker, but not much experience after him. Losing Tramaine Thomas at S hurts, but Bennet will become that unit's playmaker starting next year. Tevin Mitchell back at corner and I expect Darius Winston's best year as a Hog alongside him.
Hocker is back at K and Breeding at P. Arkansas will still be dangerous in the return game with Wade and Johnson coming back.
Hogs will be just fine in 2012. 9-11 wins. More favorable sched.

I think this will be a relatively close game. I saw the line on my betting site a second ago and it was -14. I think that's pretty damn close, but right now my $ would have to be UGA.
I think UGA runs the ball better and has a better run defense than Arkansas does, and they've got a good QB. Arkansas was w/ LSU for 3Qs (24-17 heading to 4th). The Hogs didn't play their A game, either.
That said, I doubt UGA gets a DTD like Arkansas did either. LSU is clearly the superior team.
I say LSU 30, UGA 17.

I think it's Ole Miss by a large margin. Both are going to be tough to win at for a long time, however, w/ Petrino, Miles, and Saban seemingly staying put for a while and Auburn being Auburn.
I just believe Ole Miss is a much nicer place than Starkville.

I don't know how the hell they lost that game. This was their year. No Bama. No LSU. If they just hadn't shite the bed against Auburn and somehow beat Arkansas ... they'd be going to ATL undefeated with a great chance to get skull-fricked (like everybody else save Bama) by LSU.
FYI, I was not impressed at all w/ The Gamecocks against the Razorbacks this year. We literally should've scored 63 points that game.
Still, 10 wins for USCE is a good season. Congrats to them.

re: Overlords of the secr, what are lsu's weaknesses?
Posted by Warpig0204 on 11/27/11 at 12:27 am
In all seriousness, that's a great question.
There's virtually none, that's for sure.
I do wonder what would happen if a really big, physical running team (like them) was able to really handcuff their running game. Basically, if they're forced to pass, does that leave them a little vulnerable to a team that can eat up TOP and chunks of yards like they do?
What if they got down 14-0 to Bama instead of Arkansas? I think you might find their weakness then.
Other than that ... NO!!
Color me impressed w/ LSU. They're a helluva frickin football team.

It's a legitimate question, but I think you've got to see UGA go up against LSU or Bama before you answer that.
Arkansas had to play both of these beasts on the road. Alabama scored twice on STs to really take our will away and we hung w/ LSU for 3Qs before they asserted their will.
UGA is good, no doubt. But Boise and USCE ain't Bama and LSU. They're not even remotely comparable.

I know I haven't posted a lot. That just ain't my way. But I will certainly show up here and give props to the Tigers should they beat us, whether it's a 34-31 type win or a 38-14 one.
I'll give respect where respect is due. Right now, I think any Razorback - player, coach, fan - is foolish not to respect LSU. They are the unquestioned top team in the country to date. That said, I think the same for the LSU fans.
Arkansas should be respected. Win or lose ... it'll prove why on Friday.

In all seriousness, is this game not kind of a play-in for the title game?
If LSU wins, they'll beat UGA in Atlanta and go to New Orleans.
Tomorrow, LSU, Bama and Arkansas should be 1-2-3 in the BCS.
If Arkansas wins @ Baton Rouge, wouldn't it seem logical that Alabama moves to #1, Arkansas to #2 and LSU to #3?
Alabama beats UGA in Atlanta. Arkansas and Alabama play for the BCS Championship in New Orleans.
Is this not possible?

re: Arkansas fans, honest thoughts on the LSU game

I think it's going to be close, no doubt. Since Petrino has been at Arkansas, it's always close. Last time in Death Valley it was a 3OT win for LSU, I think.
LSU is better. Arkansas is, too. So I'd be surprised if it's more than a 10-point margin either way.
If I had to name a winner, I'd honestly go w/ LSU. They're the No. 1 team in the country and they're at home, which happens to be one of the toughest places to win in all of college football. Teams like that don't lose often.
That said, Arkansas, despite drilling Tennessee by 42 Saturday and USC by 16, still hasn't played a complete game. I honestly thought we could've - and should've - beat the Cocks 60-21. But if we do, that'd be the week I want to do it. If that happens, then Arkansas most certainly could pull a stunner in Baton Rouge.
As it stands though, I'm going w/ LSU in a very, very close game.
