If there policy is anything like most, they are not spokesmen for the agency. The whole one voice approach. Making public statements to the media is a duty of the top person or their designee.
Talking to the press will often get you fired if you're on the force, but I got the impression these guys were retired.

If you don't think those games are more anticipated than others, you're fooling yourself.
They've fielded good teams in recent years. When they have good teams, they're more anticipated than other teams. When they don't, they aren't. Baton Rouge gets excited about playing any good SEC team. That doesn't make every good SEC team our rival. If they were, we'd be super-excited about playing them when they didn't have good teams. We aren't. We like to see LSU win, but we don't have any special opponents we enjoy beating more than anyone else.

All of those people have lawyered up. He is probably being advised not to talk to anyone about anything.
The detectives are probably safe in talking to the press unless they're being asked about grand-jury testimony or have been specifically ordered by a court not to say anything. Law enforcement officers are typically protected by sovereign immunity or the fact that there are no laws requiring them to investigate or respond to anything. They likely aren't talking because they don't want to, the prosecutor has asked them not to, or they're being asked about something relating to testimony before a grand jury.

I'm neither offended nor do I have a problem with LSU having any team as a rival. I just don't think we have any. It's silly when you claim that pretty much every team you play is your arch rival or your arch arch rival or your arch arch arch... We have no opponent whose games are significantly more anticipated than any other.

Both are rivalry games.
If those are, so are Arkansas and Ole Miss. So..out of the teams we regularly play only MSU isn't a rival? A meetup with a rival is supposed to be something out of the ordinary. Those games are supposed to be a bigger deal than a typical conference game. The reality is that none of them are. They're all just games.

Not really. LSU basically just feels like the SECW is one big rivalry. Everybody wants to beat them in the worst way. At one time Ole Miss and Tulane were hated rivalries on both sides, however that passion cannot be sustained when the series become so one-sided.
This. I don't want to jinx anything by saying LSU doesn't consider the Mississippi schools a threat, but I don't expect my girlfriend to speak to me for a while after we see LSU play in Oxford. LSU's current streak vs. MSU speaks for itself.

My girlfriend graduated from Ole Miss a few years back. She and most of her friends cheer against MSU. They don't seem to care much about seeing LSU lose. When LSU and MSU play, she cheers for LSU. This was true even before she began dating me. Obviously I can't speak for all Ole Miss fans, but among her friends there seems to be a lot more animosity towards MSU.

For the life of me I don't understand why LSU fans are so averse to having rivals.
I don't think we're averse to it. I think the environment just hasn't been right for one to develop. It doesn't seem like we're striving to beat the same opponent year after year. Every year, somebody else is the team to beat. If LSU and a regular opponent were both consistently at the top/middle/bottom of the pack and the games were always close, a rivalry might develop. If LSU lost year after year to the same opponent, that annoyance might develop into a rivalry. If LSU had wound up with a shitty coach when Saban went to Bama, that might have developed into a rivalry. As it is, I think both teams are convinced they have the better coach, so I don't see the current Bama-LSU competition amounting to much in the long term. I think it would be fun if we had a real rival, but nobody has earned that level of loathing or frustration. I'm certainly not going to pretend I enjoy seeing Arkansas lose because of a golden boot.

Unless someone is in denial, LSU fans most assuredly consider Bama their chief rival right now.
Bama has a good team right now. LSU fans think Saban is a dick. That doesn't make Bama a rival. Rivalries are things that go on for years. Until recently nobody cared about LSU v. Bama more than any other game. The Florida game is usually a bigger deal. At one point Ole Miss or A&M might have been considered LSU's rival (I grew up hearing "Go to hell, Ole Miss" and aggie jokes). The golden boot thing was an attempt to create a rivalry where none existed. I think it was partly in response to the perception (real or not) that LSU is one of the few teams in the SEC with no significant rivalries. If something happened that ended the annual Bama-AU game, fans of both teams would have a fit. If the annual meeting between Bama and LSU ended, most LSU fans wouldn't care. Auburn and Bama fans experience an intense amount of schadenfreude when they see the other team lose. I don't get happy because Bama loses. I don't cheer for every team that happens to be playing Bama. Auburn fans do. That's a rivalry.

Not to knock Bama, but my experience has been that they seem to have a larger radical fringe than other teams. I've pondered why this might be, and I have no answer.

I don't consider Bama a rival. Most LSU fans think Saban is a POS, but without that I don't think there's any special hatred for Bama. You're just another team we play. I don't think LSU has any real rivals at the moment. Around Baton Rouge there doesn't seem to be any team that's particularly disliked or anything.

You lost. Stop pretending it didn't happen. You're waay too invested in your team winning every game. Maybe you should stick to watching replays of games Bama actually won? Your "let's pretend Bama didn't lose" mindset is pathetic.
I'm not saying this to be mean, but I think you should consider seeing a psychiatrist. You're losing your grasp on reality. Before long you'll be poisoning trees or trying to shoot our tiger. Gaining some perspective might help you. It's ok to lose some games. If you don't understand this, the rest of your life is going to be very very depressing. Maybe football isn't the sport for you? Maybe you need to watch something where nobody loses and everyone is a winner?
