re: Great behind the scenes look of Urban Meyer's decision to leave UF
Posted by Smokin Geoffrey on 8/8/11 at 11:50 pm to USMC DAWG
Look, SI did a nice job of composing a sentimental piece that tugged at the heart strings, and there is a lot of merit to the decision Urban made and why he made it. HOWEVER... spoken by none other than a Gator man, and someone who will always appreciate Meyer for what he did on the football field, I have to stop short of heralding him for the resignation.
Working at ESPN takes one far away from north-central Florida, not to mention the traveling across the nation and back on assignment. If I had my hunches, I would say Urban will be back coaching in a year or 2. The family thing is nice, but Urban is, in a way, a willing slave to the game.
He knew no other way to operate as a coach than to immerse himself in the day-in, day-out so much it became a detriment to his well being. In doing so, he achieved a great deal of success. But that's the Urban modus operandi, and soon enough he'll be unable to keep from jumping back in.

Woopigsooie is definitely a TRUE Arkansas fan!
A whole lot of talk with very little substance to back it up.
Corliss Williamson ain't walking through that door, Sooie!

Urban won 2 titles, his 1st coming in just his 2nd year. Until Chizik wins 2, he's not the BEST hire.
In fact, the argument could be made Cam Newton was a better hire than Chizik. Only cost $180,000.

The clear, unbiased answer, on August 8th 2011, has got to be Urban Meyer.
Can't be Saban at LSU. He won 1 title, then left them high and dry.
Can't be Saban at Bama. 1 title does not trump 2.
Can't be Miles at LSU. See above.
If we're talking SEC football, it's got to be Urban.

I'm not going to accuse you of being a homer, I'm going to accuse you of being mentally retarded.
And I'm going to counter that accusation by citing an NCAA Tourney appearance every other year, a 272-151 overall record, and the all-time record for wins by a coach at MSU. That's pretty good. We're not talking about Kentucky, here.
And also, I have to accuse you of being pretty unimaginative and lame for that weak, weak "comeback", or whatever you were aiming for.

Just an aside, I think Rick Stansbury, when all is said and done for his tenure in Starkville, will go down as one of the most underrated, successful coaches in SEC history. Stans gets a bum rap for "under achieving", but people who say this need to realize he is the coach at MISSISSIPPI ST. They are consistently a SEC West power, have performed extremely well under him in conference tournaments, and have been a regular NCAA Tournament team. If he were fired tomorrow, it would be hard to look back and say, "We had a good coach in Rick Stansbury." History will be kind to him, yet I believe he will soon lead State to that so-far elusive Sweet 16 appearance.
And before anyone accuses me of being a Miss State homer, I am a true orange and blue Gator man. I just respect the job he's done. Consistently good.

I hope so, too. General feeling around Gator Country is Muschamp has a terrific grasp on the situation. He's been well received so far. Bigger questions will be what Weis does with the O, and how reliable the D is.

You know what, WarDamnEagle24... Maybe he is. I don't really know, but even if that's the idea, so what?
It doesn't seem like the kind of thing to get bent out of shape over, especially considering TD isn't bypassed in doing it. Anyway, I never intended to squabble over it. And you're right. It is a POS blog.

I'm not Sebastian. I'm a friend of Sebastian's. And Sebastian didn't even write the story, although he's also a sports reporter.
Relax guys, the writer linked it to his blog. I just linked the blog for him. BFD.

Did Will Muschamp copyright "The Florida Way"??

Those 3 words... "The Florida Way"... became popular awful fast after Muschamp was introduced last year, then kicked CB Janoris Jenkins off the team for another pot bust. Will "The Florida Way" equal winning for Muschamp is the big question.
My buddy is a sports journalist and wrote this story for a local Florida magazine... "The Florida Way".
Check it out and see what you think.
