How old are you?
re: Outboard oil change - plug vs extraction
Posted by Redlos on 5/19/25 at 5:05 pm
I use an extractor…but have also used it my first time and then removed bolt to see how much I’m able to extract. Only had one vehicle that left what I felt was “too much” residual oil.

I have an early Gen 1 Nautic Star, it’s a decent hull. My buddy got a Skeeter bay boat and I’m a liitle jealous…it’s a heavier hull but is very impressive.

Fourchon/GI water conditions
Posted by Redlos on 5/8/25 at 5:01 pm
Thinking about making a morning trip to Fourchon/GI area….anybody down there and can comment on water levels and clarity? Afraid it’s gonna be too high and super dirty with all the rain we’ve had…TIA.

Same here, love the Williston audio stuff. Just bought a Nakamichi amp I saw he dyno’d and was 800w. Bought off woot.com for $40…no plans for it tbh.
re: Brown stain on boat hull - best way to remove?

Booyah hull cleaner, won’t strip off the wax like Starbrite. I buy a spray bottle and gallon size to refill. Have to use after every use (gel coat stains easy) it hasn’t messed with my ceramic coating.

About a decade ago had DVT in my calf for a week (thought it was a pulled muscle), one day, calf pain is gone but having trouble breathing, +120 pulse. Call itself friend and she said get to ER ASAP.
Go to ER, multiple pulmonary embolism’s, doc said ai had a saddle embolism (aka widow maker) and am a 1% to be alive.
Never figure out why I clotted up, had another 4 years later in other leg and have been in blood thinners ever since.

Stats are scary, I shave my head so most worried about long term impacts….don't really like wearing hats but always try on the water (or a bandana). Luckily got some Honduran genes in me so I brown up…couldn’t imagine being fair skinned or a ginger and like to boat/fish as much as I do.

re: Determining Value of a Bay Boat?

I’d start at $25K, does he know how many hours on the F225? Most of his value is in the engine and trailer. I have a Yamaha YDS and can tell him the hours and engine details if he’s near BR. Good luck….I have the same boat but a F250 and 1 year newer, have it valued at $35K based on condition and accessories.

Many factors you haven’t provided…2 or 4 stroke, aluminum or galvanized trailer, condition of seats/gel coat, electronics, trolling motor, power pole, etc. could be $8K - $28K

Hoshizaki has a stainless steel ice panel, Manitowac has tin which over time wears out. Buy once cry once

Is the compressor clutch engaging? Have you put any gauges on it? Worth getting some of these HF gauges

re: Headlight bulb recommendations for my truck?
Posted by Redlos on 2/20/25 at 6:23 am
Jack explained it really well…I will only add the experience with my wife’s old and current 4Runner (my Tundra has white LEDs and they are awesome).
2006 4Runner had halogens and they weren’t great. I ended up doing a slight mod (trimming plastic on bulb) and installed the high beam bulb in the low beam location, definitely helped.
2018 4Runner…installed LED Morimoto units, wife is thrilled as they look and work so much better than stock. They are expensive but “buy once, cry once is my motto”.

I’ve been using the Kobalt one (shaped like an X) for about 4 years. Runs in AC or DC, auto set/shutoff. Thinks it’s about $80
