WFAA Story

quote:

DALLAS - The ex-girlfriend of NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel told police that the Heisman Trophy winner told her "shut up or I'll kill us both" after forcing her into a car, hitting her, and dragging her by the hair.

quote:

"He grabbed me by my hair and threw me back into the car and got back in himself," she reportedly told police. "He hit me with his open hand on my left ear for jumping out of the car. I realized immediately that I could not hear out of that ear, and I still cannot today, two days later."
I like the line-up. Get a second guy at the top of the line-up who has been getting on base while giving Marisnick a clean slate and letting Altuve take on the responsibility of moving the runner/taking a pitch to let Marisnick steal, etc.
Oh is that what you're thinking about right now?
Dude shut the frick up. I'm not gonna read any of the comments, but I have no tolerance for people who aren't interested in having fun, learning responsibility, working toward team goals, and making unbreakable bonds with people who share your values.

That is college. You missed college. I hope you feel bad.
Let me put it it this way:

Do you like college football?
Why do you like college football?
Is it because the games matter more than any other sport?

Anything more than a 4 team playoff would ruin what's unique and great about the greatest sport there is.
Pros:
-Brand name matchup. It's always fun and unique to play Notre Dame, especially given the opportunity to beat their brains out.
-New location. We've repeatedly gone to the same couple of stadiums for bowls/neutral site games. Music City is something completely different and adds a novelty and excitement to bowl travel.

Cons:
-Farther trip. Not a huge alumni base there and not an easy drive from Louisiana.
-Venue/Time: Outdoor stadium in the middle of the day on a Tuesday vs primetime indoors.

Overall, I would have rathered the Texas Bowl. Notre Dame and Texas are both big-name opponents, but a nighttime, neutral site matchup between border states would feel like a bigger game in the moment and would have been a fun atmosphere. We miss out on a "rivalry" component in schools and offices Texas and Louisiana where Longhorns and Tigers mix it up on a daily basis.

re: What it means to senior La'el Collins

Really happy he came back for his senior year. I certainly understand the economics of why many guys decide to leave, but finishing a degree, enjoying playing college football, and improving technique/draft stock are all worth coming back for for others. The O-Line is playing unbelievable and having a stud LT is a huge part of it.

re: Isn't This a Spread Formation?

Posted by KJA on 10/8/14 at 10:40 am
Both I and Spread formations can work with our personnel, the play calling just needs to take advantage of where the numbers are.

With the way teams have been stacking the box, when we're in the I, the other team's corners are on an island with Dural and Dupre, giving us an opportunity for quick in breaking routes as well as deep vertical routes. The problem is we've continued to run into unfavorable fronts and been predictable between run/pass on all 3 downs.

If our passing game can link up out of the I, teams will spread their linebackers and safeties and the running lanes will become available.

Conversely, if we run effectively out of the spread, teams will tighten up and we will again have numbers on the outside with our talented receivers.

When I played I thought it was easier to play pass defense against the spread because you were isolated less and could play more "team" defense.

Both formations can work, they just need to be used strategically to create balance.
Awards ceremony currently taking place in english
Santana, Chapman, and Kike Hernandez coming up

A bit surprised to see Santana before September and I hope he isn't being rushed, but another real talent on the big league roster is exiting.

With 3 minor leaguers + Bass up and only Villar and Williams gone, theres still a couple of roster moves to make.

Will be interesting to see if the Astros start selling some of their org depth next year

This is what I'm interested in. With a glut of similarly talented, similarly aged starting pitchers, it would be ideal to package a few together for an impact bat or two.
CSB time: me and my friends were driving back from Galveston a couple of years ago next to that girl and her friends. Chick notices us, signals us her phone number, one of us texts her, she asks for our names and then adds us on Facebook.
Praise Jesus. Singleton is raking too, so he shouldn't take too much longer. Good times ahead bros.

re: Welcoming Y'all to the SMU Area

Actually ate there not too long ago and it's still great. I'm going to throw Campisi's into the OP for Italian.

Welcoming Y'all to the SMU Area

Posted by KJA on 3/24/14 at 2:55 pm
I meant to do this earlier, but the last few days have been hectic. I'm a die-hard LSU fan, but go to school here and wanted to post a few restaurants around campus and the like that could be helpful for anyone from the Dallas area that doesn't come around SMU often or anyone coming in from out of town. (Obviously not expecting a bowl game like mass decent on the city)

Restaurants:

Bandito's (Mexican)
6615 Snider Plaza, University Park, TX 75205
Good, standard Tex-Mex just off campus in the Snider Plaza area. Good margaritas.

Burger House (Burgers)
6913 Hillcrest Ave, Dallas, TX 75205
Outstanding mom and pop type burger joint.

Cafe Brazil (Diner/Breakfast/2am)
6420 Ncentral Expy Dallas, TX 75206
Kind of hipster decorations. Chicken fried steak, eggs, etc.

Campisi's (Italian)
5610 E. Mockingbird Lane Dallas, TX 75026
Says the Egyptian Restaurant on the front (didn't change the sign in the 1940s when it changed over and it stuck) Locale of all the under the table dealings of the 1980s football program and the mob stuff for the city at large. Eric Dickerson mentions it in the 30 for 30.

Bars
SMU Boulevard itself has 3 bars that are maybe 5-10 minute walk from Moody

Milo's
5645 SMU Blvd, Dallas, TX 75206
Will scan and blacklight if that's an issue

Barley House
5612 SMU Blvd, Dallas, TX 75206
Probably the most popular SMU bar. Food is good as well.

Both Barley's and Milo's are essentially college bars, nothing ornate about them, but fun.

World of Beer
5600 SMU BLVD Dallas, TX 75206
16 page menu of craft beers. Abita and Dixie Beer present.

The young professional and older crowd will probably want to look to going out in Uptown.

Bush Library/ Campus
I would imagine many of you would be interested in going to the Bush library. Just opened last spring. Has a huge piece of the World Trade Center, full model of the Oval Office, and the "Decision Points" Simulator where you take advise from different sources and then vote on what choice you would have made on issues like Sadaam, Bailouts, etc. The 9-11 stuff is really chilling.

Campus is absolutely beautiful, I would highly recommend just walking around. Moody Colosseum is coming off a massive renovation and is absolutely spectacular. Y'all will enjoy the environment.

If any of y'all are KAs, feel free to stop by the house.

Apologize again for just posting this now, but hopefully this can at least help with making plans before and after the game.

I would imagine the scheduling gets corrected in years to come. What's the wrap on Jankovich coaching/recruiting wise? He brought us Nic Moore, who is an absolute stud, so I have positive inclinations just from that.
It should have been the opposite of that. SMU got 4 wins against the AAC tournament teams including a sweep of 7 seeded UConn, and blowout wins over 5 seeded Cinci and 8 seeded Memphis. It should have been clear SMU was in that group of teams in terms of quality.
I agree which is suprising considering the name cache teams like UConn, Louisville, Memphis, and Cinci have in basketball.

Louisville as a 4 seed is absolutely hilarious.
