Gumbyxl I hear what you're saying however your view isn't shared by a number of folks who has watched this kid play over the years. Last year I would have probably agreed with you however he has become more involved from the defensive stand point and he can take over a game if he chooses too. The problem with trying to pigeon hole him based on game stats is that he plays on a team that is 10 or 11 kids deep so he's asked to get everybody involved. He's also sharing the back court with another D1 guard and 2 other capable guards are on the second team so his minutes played are greatly cut into. He does what he does playing perhaps a little more than half of the game.
That's fine too but you can see the list of schools on Rivals. He's the real deal and still has another year to mature.

Look again folks. Apparently you guys haven't researched Felix. He's been on the national radar since he started AAU basketball and by the way he is being recruited by Kentucky. Stay on him Trent!
Whoaaaa there people. Carl Weathers did graduate from St. Augustine. I once worked with a guy who was in his class. He said they called him cave man lol As for the coaching, nothing against the previous coaching staffs but the nature of the schools set up hurt it's chances as much as anything. The school drew kids from local playgrounds and from a few public schools which meant pre Katrina they'd get those kids in the 10th grade mostly. So you really didn't get production out of many of them for a couple of years so it was tough to get a lot of kids on the field even though there were 90 kids on the sideline. Perhaps 35 to 40 would actually play. Then look at the teams which beat them in the playoffs. Loss to Neville 7-6 in semifinal in '95, West Monroe in semi final in '93 and 2000 so they made some late runs in the playoffs but lost to eventual state champs from 2-5A. In 93 a 15 year old kid handled a kickoff like a punt which helped W. Monroe beat them. Against Neville a missed PAT and FG cost them the game. This year, with all the talent at DB, the D line wasn't stacked and got pushed around. Those big kids on the sideline shoulda played D line to help out.

Riverside didn't split with St. Aug. St. Aug whipped them 63-54 in their only meeting with 2 of last years starters still playing football.

Hi, I'm new to the board and came across this thread. I thought I'd chime on in, I hear what you guys are saying however I’ve been watching Javan since he started playing at St Augustine and my input is do not judge the kid on one ball game. St Aug goes 9 to 10 players deep so there is no need for him to score 20 ppg because we have a balanced team. His job is to lead the team and distribute the ball along with DJ. He’s been rated among the top point guards in the nation since he’s been playing AAU ball and was switched to 2 guard because that’s where he’s needed. He is a heady ball player and does everything Coach Barthe’ asks him to do. If he’s needed to step up and take over a game he does it regardless of who the opponent is. If he’s asked to be the floor general, then that’s what he does. He has great handles and can break down a defense, he his has terrific control when driving to the lane and yes he can sink the three if needed. His game is getting everyone involved and he does that well. IMHO he’s a major college D1 player and LSU would get an excellent PG. Don’t let this kid leave the state! Don’t listen to me though, check out the people who write and make observations on the AAU circuit who has seen the top recruits in action against each other. By the way, he’s received offers from LSU, Ole Miss, and Alabama of the SEC. Baylor, Butler, Oklahoma State, Seton Hall and Tulane have offered already. Kansas fell in love with him and are recruiting him hard. He’s also being recruited by Kentucky, Florida, Arizona, Texas, Michigan, USC and Washington. These recruiters have seen him in more than one ball game. They’ve watched him mature for a few years on the AAU circuit along with watching him during the season. Finally if you caught him during the 5A championship game you'd see what I was talking about. I guess that kind of shoots down the “he couldn’t play in the SEC talk.”
