Murray/Fears
Brown/Herb
Bey/?
Zion/queen
Missi/Karlo

Fears and Queen have to start this year. I think we'd trade Murray, Murphy and a couple of picks. That's leaves us

Fears
Brown
Zion
Queen
Missi

We have Jones and Bey off the bench, plus whatever we can turn Poole onto, and the full exception. It's a bit clunky, but it's a big physical team with defensive upside. We need to add shooters, but so does every team. I think we would grind to 40+ wins..
quote:

He's clearly a better player than Trey at this point in time

People want 3-5 1sts and swaps for Murphy. Yet don't want to give up draft picks to get Brown. It doesn't make sense.
quote:

but even adding him to play with Zion, Fears, Queen and Bey doesn’t make this team competitive with OKC or San Antonio

So let's just shut the whole thing down and give up.

I swear, so many people want to tank and suck so that we can build some mythical roster. But none are here through the season as we get beat down game after game.

quote:

This team isn’t competing anytime soon in the west so I highly doubt Jaylen Brown would be a happy camper coming from Boston to the a team chasing the play-in every year.

He just led a team to a top 2 seed in the East with a bunch of middling players. You can build around him. He wants his own team and legacy. I have no idea if he wants to come here. But if he did, he's worth taking a chance.
quote:

The Bulls have been zoned in on Z for the entire last year so idk wtf you are talking about.

This is all news to me. I've never heard this at all. I thought the Bulls were starting a rebuild. That's why they shed everything they could at the deadline.

So I Googled it, and there isn't much in regards to it. I did find one projected trade that included the Bulls trading for Zion. It had us getting Patrick Williams, Tre Jones, Jalen Smith and the 15th pick. That's a better return than I thought, but still a bunch of ehh pieces.

So, just to be clear, the Bulls want Zion. You think they'll give us the #4. So why haven't we done that yet? If that is anyway true, it's the biggest mistake in franchise history..
quote:

CHI/ Nets legit have 100 mil cap space. Kings/ Jazz/ Pistons have plenty assets to send out. That's absolutely not a concern or thought. On top of that this team would be immediately extending him.

I have never ever heard of any of those teams having a remote interest in Zion. None. He would be a horrible fit on all of them. Why do they want him?

quote:

They have openly wanted to do it, have the space, have the assets, and are desperate for ticket sales or relevance.

I have never seen any of this. Zion doesn't sell tickets and he doesn't bring relevance. He played most of the year, and we had a bad record and low attendance. Are you thinking about Zion from like 5-6 years ago?

quote:

Give me an argument based on the Nets, Bulls, Piston, Kings, Jazz. Not an argument of simply "they won't do it" but an argument of assets, salary, cap space, etch. There is no argument for those teams.

Why would they? What does getting Zion get them?
You just seem to totally disregard player salary in your evaluations. Zion makes over 40M a year. If it wasn't so easy to possibly cancel, it would be a horrible contact. Teams aren't trading a cost controlled rookie scale starter for Zion and eating the extra 30M+.

For example, If we called Memphis and offered them Zion for Coward straight up, would they do it? This assumes they have the space to take his salary..

The answer is no. Because Zions salary locks them in to a direction they don't want to go, and Coward still has potential. This goes for a ton of other players.

quote:

So that would be (4) 1st for Zion that we don't take.

We literally almost cut Zion last summer. No one is offering us anything right now. Maybe at the deadline we can draw up some interest. But that's not happening right now. Can you literally find anybody else floating projected trades where Zion brings back multiple 1sts?
Dude, no offense, but you have to be drunk right. Zion is not fetching a top 10 pick in this draft. He makes over 40M a year and functionally does not fit with almost any team in the league. He's not a top 100 player, at this moment. We still don't even know what position he plays and he refuses to shoot 3s in a league focused on 3pt shooting. It makes no sense that you believe any of what you are saying. 3 1sts for Zion? That's just crazy.

Also? The Warriors don't have the cap space for Jones. They have to include a player(s). They aren't blowing all their assets for Jones. We'd be lucky to get a late 1st. But we are going to have to eat a contract or two. It'll probably end up Moody and Podz for Jones. Something like that, if we dealt with Jones. But they aren't throwing in a lottery pick with them..
quote:

Theres no way in hell theyre trading chet for trey. Not without us giving substantially more.

This is fair. I'm just trying to gauge values. It seems that Murphy is the hot name right now, with a great contract. Holmgren's value might have taken a hit, and he's going to make almost double Murphy. But maybe you are right. I just think they might be close. I threw in the #12 or #17 as comp for Jones. OKC don't need both picks and we would have to include someone like Jones to make the money close.

The weirdest reaction to this is everyone bringing up Zion or other players on the team, not associated with the trade. We can't do everybody all at once. You want to trade 4-5 guys, it's probably going to be multiple trades. But it has to start with someone.
quote:

will not make us a contender

Nobody said that he would. He's just a tremendous fit next to Queen. He'll make him better. That should be the focus. How to build around and improve our young talent.

quote:

If we are to make trades, our best bet would be to trade for as many picks as humanly possible and plan for the future.

You have to take back salary and pieces. Somebody on the team has to be paid. Plus there is no incentive to bottom out anymore. You have to be competitive while you build. We need functional players that actually fit together.

Also, this could just be the first trade. We can still move Zion, Murray, and Poole. One doesn't hinge on any of the others. Personally, I think it's better to role with Zion and Murray till the deadline and hope they bump their value a bit more. I'd waive Poole. His salary slot needs to go to Bey, who I want to extend..
quote:

I might finally stop watching if we trade Trey and Herb for 1 pick, that isn’t even too 10, and Chet Holmgren

This is the delusion of our fan base. Holmgren's accomplishments dwarf both Jones and Murphy combined. He is all-NBA this year, and 1st team all defense. He has won a ring as the "3rd" option. His value is super low, at this moment. So, we need to take advantage, if possible. But that is a tremendous return, if we could swing that.

If Murphy and Jones are so awesome, why aren't we winning with them?
I've been watching them all taking about this. The OKC situation intrigues me. They kept talking about them trading for Giannis or Murphy. But they don't really go into what they give us, other than picks.

With how bad Holmgren was, his value is low. But he would be a great fit next to Queen. If we traded Murphy and Jones to OKC, I think we could get Holmgren and at least one 1st (#12 of 17). That just fixes a lot of our issues right away.
quote:

We got guys who have been picked in the NBA draft playing college basketball

Did you know that Larry Bird was drafted 6th in 1978 by the Celtics? But he decided to return to school for another year and did not join the NBA until 1979.

Point being, you're not in the NBA until you actually sign a contract and play in the NBA.
They said the same thing about the Spurs with 3 PGs (Castle, Harper, and Fox). But they play them a lot, and it creates a lot of mismatches. The Thunder play a bunch of small guards together as well. We could keep 2 of Morant, Murray, and Fears on the court at all times.

No matter what we need guard depth and Poole is just a wasted contract. If we can ship out Poole and Hawkins, and turn them into Morant. I think it's a gamble worth taking..
It looks like the Grizzlies are pretty desperate to dump Morant and move on. I saw a trade that had us packaing Murray, Hawkins and 2nds for him. I want to hang onto Murray. But what if they get so desperate they take Poole, Hawkins, and a protected 1st (top 5 protected) in like 2029? We'd have to explore that, right?
quote:

Just seems like a waste of money where they could have got depth at other positions.

They are one of the deepest teams in the league. Also, Wemby is injury prone and they minimize his minutes quite a bit, so they need people there.

When you get to the playoffs, most teams only really play 8, maybe 9 guys unless it's a blowout. So, it doesn't really matter who's sitting at the end of the bench.
quote:

For some, the retirement plan is to enjoy shite while they're here and able to, and die not too long after actually retiring.

I don't think I will ever stop working. Even if I step down in my current career, to more of a part time consulting position. I just think men are meant to have a purpose. There is only so much traveling you can do and golf you can play. Have to keep some money coming in..
This is kind of a wild idea, but I keep seeing them talking about Lebron James being a FA. But he'll have to be a S&T to get anywhere close to the 50M he got this past season. So they are trying to showcase teams that have assets to move. But nobody wants to give up any extreme value.

So what if the Lakers wanted to finally pair up Zion with Doncic? It's low risk, as Zion has outs in his contract and it's short term. Doncic and Zion have complimentary games, and they are partnered with Nike.

As far as James in NO. We could give him a 2Y/100Mish deal (might have to throw in Looney to make the money work). We can sell him on future ownership, as a minority with the option to become a principal after retirement.

I am not a James fan, but he would dramatically change our profile. We would sell out every game and get a new TV deal. He actually fits really well on the roster, even if he's load managed. Murphy and Murray would shine next to him. We'd be competitive right away, and the young assets can grow without pressure. It might be the deepest team he has played on in years. Plus he'd have a vested interest in growing these players.

I'll admit it's a fantasy. But it makes a lot of sense for everyone involved..
quote:

And players like Victor who can make him work inside and outside will routinely destroy him.

Queen looked really good against Wemby when I watched him. His bulk is just tough, and Wemby couldn't bang with him. I don't think that'll be the usual match up. But Queen can give him problems.

quote:

He will never be able to defend in space

I don't believe this. Queen is still maturing. He's going to lean out, get quicker and stronger. It just takes time, but he has high IQ and will find ways to make an impact.

Queen is going to be in the NBA a long time. He's a little younger than Wemby (about a year). But he'll play way, way longer. By the time it's over, I bet he plays close to double the games Wemby does..
quote:

Here comes the cope stage.

I've been in favor of this hiring since it was rumored a long time back. It sets the stage for the rebuild, which should be our next step..
This is just lazy analysis. Coaches get better and evolve, like players. Sometimes they need a change of scenery, or organization to develop new systems and mentalities. Maybe he takes his faults and deficiencies from Orlando, and improves. You know, learn from experience. That's just normal. It's not one shot and you are out.

I am totally on board with hiring him, and excited to see how he builds the culture. I appreciate he didn't perform up to hopes and expectations. But most people don't. It's odd to follow him to other places to try and sabotage his future prospects. It's not a good look..
quote:

What has Holland shown so far?

He is about to turn 21 and is an elite level defender. He can play 2-4 with exceptional length. Very similar to Jones, but 7 years younger and way cheaper (Pistons have a similar guy in Thompson, so Holland is blocked there). Still young enough to develop as a shooter. Great young asset to grow with Fears and Queen.

quote:

not enough value IMO. Makes us a drastically worse shooting team.

Shooting will have to come from all down the line up. But we'll put an emphasis on defense first, and the shooting will come.

I think the tide has actually turned on the 3pt shot and we will see numbers decrease quite a bit next season. All the heavy volume teams flamed out in the playoffs. Its apparent that there is such a thing as too much, and teams are emphasizing efficiency. Well still need to put up 30+ 3pt a game. But having Murphy be 10 of those wasn't a good model.
