I don't think Van Buren is white. From his Wikipedia page (below)..

"Van Buren was born in Honduras, orphaned young, and moved to New Orleans, becoming a legendary Philadelphia Eagles running back and the first Hall of Famer of Hispanic descent."
Well, as you said, you have to take away one of the Kansas City teams. Or just give them different names, with each in another state.

I think they would for sure go with Mexico City if they expanded this much. There is also alot of big Canadian cities with interest. I know it didn't work out in Vancouver, but there is a ton of money there. Places like Montreal and Calgary aren't mentioned much either. But they have big markets. I think they would bump out places like San Diego and Kansas city.
Why 40?

I think Benson owns the rights to the "Barons". That was going to be our name originally. Or was it some other super Catholic affiliated title?

Wouldnt be surprised to see them punt tomorrow nights game

We shouldn't. We can't give away any games. The Cavs have been struggling and are primed to get beat. They are also on a back to back. They beat the Hornets, but that's only because they had an incredible shooting night. We shot horribly and still beat the Mavs. I don't want the streak to end..

frick Atlanta. We’re not giving them a top 5 pick. Let’s win some games and spoil that pick for them

I just saw a segment with Simmons where he stated that we aren't going to be be bottom 5 for much longer. If Atlanta could, they need to package our pick for a big deal. Now would be the time for them to do it, while we are still near the bottom. It would have to be a pretty big deal though, probably for someone like Giannis..

Need a 200m salary cap

240 cap, 180 floor. If you can't hit the floor, you have the distribute the difference to players on the roster..

lucked into generational talent and nice drafting by the front office

Nobody ever mentions how much the Warriors have spent, mostly wasting money. Since Loeb has been the owner, the team has paid out over 900M in tax payments. They spent almost 180M just last year, and will be paying again this year. The Warriors spoil their players too, with amenities and facilities. It all shouldn't be allowed (I believe in a hard cap). But almost every other team would have reset multiple times by now..
I just like how when it comes to Durant we are supposed to forget that he failed to win a championship with 2 future MVPs on his team in OKC. Then after he ran away to co-lead the Warriors to a couple more rings, he failed trying to put together superteams with many former all stars in both Brooklyn and Phoenix. We are assuming it goes well in Houston. But those are some really huge blemishes on his record. I just can't overlook those stops and failures.

I remember when I read Simmons book when he talked about HOFs and how they rarely ever play for 3 or more teams. Shaq was the one that kind of blew that model away (6 teams). Durant is on his 5th. Almost all of those other guys are just one team. Do you think that's a coincidence?
quote:

He also won 2 championships as a player coach. The guy is one of the greatest of all time.

This is similar to someone saying that Otto Graham is a top 5 QB all-time, then pointing to his 7 Championships as proof.

Weird fact I just learned. Graham played in 1946 for the Rochester Royals as a G/F. They won the NBL title that year. The Royals are now known as the Sacramento Kings..
quote:

Durant probably wins two in OKC if they are able to retain Harden. One which would have taken the last one away from Duncan. It’s just hard to compare the eras and organizational structure the other two guys had.

Would have, could have, should have..

But he didn't. Career is about what you accomplished. Not what you could have done..
quote:

Kobe is the only obvious answer to this question. Tim Duncan would probably be 2nd

You are f'n high. Duncan had almost the perfect career. You honestly believe that Durant had a better career? Based on what?

yeah not happening they’d have to play better than .600 just to get close.

Are you saying the playoffs or just to make the playin?

We could easily be top 12 within the next 10 games. Getting into the top 10 will be tough. But if we have decent health, we should stay top 12 to finish the year and threaten for the playin.

Only goal should be play the rookies, find a trade partner for Zion, and get that pick out of the top 4 just for the sake of pride

We aren't going to tank, so we'll be trying to win. We can't control the lottery, so it could always hit top 3 no matter what. But I don't think we'll end up bottom 6 at the end of the year. Best way to develop the rookies is playing solid minutes and roles on a high effort team surrounded by motivated veterans. I don't want them putting up fat stats in 30 point blowouts..
If/when Jones is traded will this thread be retired?

Curry would never be able to get off a shot playing against an 80s defense. Durant is a bitch.

Curry has range out to 30 feet. Nobody would think to guard him, because no one ever took that kind of volume or shot from that distance. He's the greatest shooter of all-time and it's not close. Also, he's bigger than you think. I love the 80's PG era, but he'd have plus size against all of them. When Kidd and D. Williams came in, they were the first "big" PGs. Most of the elite PGs, like Thomas, Payton, KJ, Price, Stockton, Kenny Anderson, Iverson, Marbury, etc.. were mostly around or under 180lbs. I mean Bogues started over 500 games at 5'3. You don't think Curry couldn't get up a shot over him?

When you look at teams 10-15, there is ample opportunity to make a huge move up.

10. Jazz- they are going to strip down and tank. Firesale is coming.

11. Blazers- injuries are hurting them. They want to load up for next year. But they could be steady.

12. Mavs- about to reset around Flagg. Not sure if Irving comes back this year.

13. Kings- already shopping everybody. Tank and rebuild already underway.

14. Clippers- old and in free fall. I knew they were a mirage last year. They have no reason to tank. They might be buyers, but they will not take in salary (they have a clean sheet in 2 years).

Even the Warriors and Grizzlies (8 and 9) are starting to slip and are exploring big moves. It's not crazy for us to jump into the mix. We are a 1/3 of the way through the season. If we can shrink that gap to 2-3 games in the next 1/3, we'd be set up for a big push at the end of the season. Over the next 27, we have to hit double digit wins in that section, 10+ at a minimum (probably need to be closer to 12 to be a threat)..
Today is a pretty big deadline day for NBA trades. Any trade done today has a special condition that allows players acquired to be traded again (see the quote below).

"Marc Stein predicts a trade of some sort will happen as soon as Monday or Tuesday (15th or 16th) because:

1) Majority of players signed this offseason will be trade elligible
2) Anyone who's traded by 12/16 is elligible to be repackaged in a subsequent trade on deadline day"

So, we might see some action around the league..

He just doesn’t shoot them….

I know. That's a problem. He's a wing, he should be shooting them. At least 4-5 a game. He's a career 32% 3pt shooter (in a smaller sample size). So we can shoot.

What happened is that he had had an insane FG% and he doesn't want something pulling that number down. He thinks not shooting makes him more efficient.

quote:

also has had terrible coaching and obviously injuries.

Huh? Why would those matter? Coaches begged Ingram to shoot 3s, yet he never shot enough. You think they can make Zion do it?

1st game in his career that he did not start. I did not realize that.

Also, another weird fact I learned. Zion has only made 32 3pt shots in 7 seasons in the league. In his 1st game, he went 4 for 4 on 3pt shots. He's only made 28 since that game, in 224 total games.. It's insane. Bey has a horrible shooting stroke, and has made 45 3pts this year in 26 games (34% shooting). Why can't Zion shoot 3's?
quote:

i'm pretty sure at this moment right now, the next two years of his contract are not guaranteed at all, so we could cut him today and not owe him anything for next year or the following year

I am not sure about that. This year is fully guaranteed. If we cut him, with no cause, he could contend that we sabotaged his value, and intentionally sabotaged his ability to earn his contract for next season. So we acted in bad faith. What would be your reasoning for cutting or waiving him?

quote:

So that means we have until basically the end of the season to cut him and not owe him anything going forward, if we wanted to go that route.

I think you just misspoke here. Hes going to make all his weigh ins, so the 20% is guaranteed for next season. I'm pretty sure he'll hit at least 41 games this year, unless he seriously injured. So that'll be 60%. That's over 24M. So, maybe we can save 16ish million by cutting him at the end of the year (if he doesnt play over 41 games). I just dont see us doing that. Given the numbers, there just isn't much value. I think we are kind of stuck with him.

The only way I think a team trades for him now is if he has a season ending injury and they only have to pay him the 20% on his deal (cut him and save 32M). Although we could cut him and get the same benefit.

I could see a team like the Cavs being really into that. If we did a 3 team deal us, Cavs and Nets. Garland to the Nets, Zion to the Cavs, and MJP to us. The Cavs could cut/waive Zion and save 32M, plus a ton in repeater taxes. That's the only way he'll have big value right now and get us something decent back.
quote:

Zion came back 2 weeks ahead of schedule from an injury AND was ok coming off the bench to help the team win. This whole “He doesn’t want to be in NOLA” narrative is absolute nonsense.

Its weird that you think any of that mattered to him. He came back because of money. He has to play to guarantee his money for next year. That's it.

Zion does not like being a professional basketball player. I'm sure he loves to play and likes the game. But he doesn't like everything else that goes along with it (diet, training, recovery, traveling, study, etc..). He plays cause he makes a ridiculous amount of money to do it. Its all transactional to him.

For what it's worth, I don't blame him for that. Its a hard, grueling lifestyle. If you hand me 2 million in cash, I'd quit today and never work again. Hes made over 200M in his career already. Hes just coasting at this point..
