You see Ignatius Reilly, normal people call that retirement. You should investigate the FIRE movement.

Many people (rightly) begrudge him for not trying to help people with that wealth.

He created a company that improves/improved the lives of billions of people. He’s implemented 15/hr minimum wage as well as a plethora of other progressive principles within said company. Most of his wealth is still in company stock so he can control manage and direct said company.

When is enough, enough?

Why do ppl hate billionaires?

I have a few Facebook friends that continue to deride Jeff Bezos because his net worth is 184 billion. This baffles me as I’m not sure what they are advocating for. Should he have not created a product that improves billions of people’s lives or should he be taxed to the point that he no longer controls his own company.

Any assistance with a witty response to my socialist friends is appreciated.
Daily cases vs daily deaths

This chart blows my mind. There does not appear to be any appreciable correlation between the two datasets for the worldwide data. Also works if drilled down to just US.
From college it’s a toss up between 03 Georgia game and 07 Auburn game.

2019 Oklahoma Playoff game will always be tops for me though because it was my first guy trip with my son and he is now a tiger fan for life because of it I think.

re: Using Mint for Budgeting

I’ve been using it since 2010 and have only had bank connection issues on rare occasions seemingly after updates. It becomes a real powerful tool for net with tracking and trend tracking on your spending habits over time. e.g. I can look back at December for the past ten years and see how much it costs to have kids during Christmas.

I agree with this. Kid needs outside extra curricular activity or a gym. His self esteem is probably already suffering and if he’s close to the kitchen all the time there’s an easy fix available.

Also big kids tend to have over developed muscle mass and he’ll probably get strong pretty quick thus building confidence.

I’ve had a SkyBell for 2 yrs and have no complaints.

$1000 grows to over $17000 at 10% annual return over 30 yrs. You are either taxed on the 1000 up front (roth) or the 17000 when you pull it out (traditional). I don’t care what the rate is, I’d rather pay taxes on the smaller value.

Gross oversimplification granted, but it’s just food for thought.

Think I found their problem. Likely not the only thing they complain about.
That’s a great read!

Have owned our 2012 CX-9 since 2014 and we love it. Bought with 60k and still going strong at 160k.

NO 722 million dollar budget
EBR 1 Billion dollar budget and that’s not counting Zachary, Baker and Central’s budget.

NO estimated 391,006 population (2018) growing
EBR estimated 440,956 (2018) shrinking

Why the big difference? Why is EBR so high?

New Orleans has multiple boards that colllect assessments (city, SWB, Levee district, crime prevention districts etc). Whereas Baton Rouge has about 90% of the services provided through the city/parish government. That is likely the disparity.

With respect to the roll forward talk, the increased assessments only matter based on the percentage of the previous tax rolled forward, ie 100% results in full tax bill increasing fully proportional to assessment increase. A roll back essentially holds tax bills the same as previous by reducing the millage rate applied to each property.

Just had our 3rd and we are going all in on the minivan. A toddler seat and baby seat make it tough on the 7 yr old getting in and out. Wouldn’t do it with only 2 though.
I closed on a refi yesterday in a similar situation. Built my house and original mortgage/purchase price wasn’t representative of appraised value. Went from 4.75 to 3.875 and dropped PMI.

I definitely think it’s worth it if you plan to stay for a while. Need to factor in upfront loan costs to determine payback horizon if you don’t plan to be there for a while.

It cost me 9k to install 2 entire 2 ton ducted systems when I built my house. 6k is very rich. A 1 ton unit should cost around 2k and then it’s all labor.
