Or is it tourney or gone for you?

This.

He’s had more than enough time.

Wade is ALWAYS the undercurrent so don't deny it.

Not at all actually. I’m focused on who is in charge now and it has been a completely unacceptable product (by my standards anyway).

But if you’re fine with this past year, don’t let me rain on your non-tournament parade.

It's funny how you're willing to completely ignore the fact that it's your hero, the Pear, who orchestrated the tear down.

I didn’t bring up Wade. You did. I’ve accepted that Wade will never coach here again. By objective metrics, he’s better than McMahon. But who isn’t at this point?

quote:

Downvote me for being hopeful as that's what you do.

Downvoting is better than wishing dark thoughts on fellow posters. How were you not banned for that?
quote:

They just want to tear it down.

Nah, your guy McMahon is doing a great job of doing that all on his own.

14-40 SEC record 14-40 SEC record 14-40 SEC record

Damn AAlt26, now you've done it. You wrote a post I agreed with and had to upvote.

We still remember what you posted on Friday.

Hey you anti MM guys just don’t go and stop bitching. He is here next season no matter what, you ain’t changing that. Either support the players or STFU!!

Imagine getting this defensive over a guy with a 14-40 conference record.

That is not a bad roster. No excuses left.

You should be banned. You need professional help. I pity you.

I think now when we mention developing, it should be how far he’s grown from the beginning of the season till the end. And by this standard, if you choose to look at it this way, Mcman has gets a F.

Completely agree. Just look at the season finale game (A&M) and the SEC tournament embarrassment against Moo State. Games at the end of the season that were blowouts and where the players looked like they were playing together for the first time…..in mid March. That’s what we mean when we say lack of development.

Go watch McMahon’s presser after the SEC tournament loss. He blamed the league getting stronger and injuries for the season we had. We have so many issues within this program.

He has won ncaa tourney games...you can't hide talent

Good grief. How much does Woodward pay per post?
quote:

Tyrell Ward

Are you really going to use Ward as an example to make your argument? Not only did McMahon run Ward off but seemed to be caught flat footed when Ward stepped away a week or so before the start of the season. Some development made there.

Please give specifics on the development of Reed and Hannibal (you might have an argument for Tre actually). Otherwise, punch out for the day.
Wade really gets it when it comes to promotion. They will be a force soon.

McMahon is clueless in that department also. He thinks delivering donuts on a golf cart the first day of classes is enough.

Calipari isnt a great coach

I never said he was a great coach. Just that he’s better than what we have (who isn’t?)

quote:

Every player outside of Mike Williams improved.

Wait a second. If that’s true, then why did Vyc Miller and Chest practically quiet quit last season? Why did the McMen say that Chest was no big loss and “had no offensive skills”? Did Givens improve? This board tells me otherwise.

As for Mike Williams, there were games last season where it seemed like he would be the only one to make shots. Yet inexplicably our genius coach would barely play him.

Yes or no: if McMahon misses the NCAA tournament this season, should he be fired?
quote:

The idea is that LSU was doing the minimal amount in NIL the past few years

Funny how I only heard that in February and in the thick of an absolutely dismal conference record. Coordinated damage control, much?

quote:

I think you will see a lot of programs come back to Earth a bit as the super seniors aren't around as much.

You’re forgetting that most programs (everyone else in the SEC) has a better coach than we do. Heck, Calipari came in and took a somewhat patchwork Arkansas team to the Sweet 16. While Kentucky fans had their reservations about Mark Pope, he made it to the Sweet 16 and they have reloaded for this upcoming season.

McMahon has developed no one since being here. I know Givens gets clowned by this board but it would not surprise me at all to see him get developed well by a respectable program that knows how to make players better.

The constant excuses blaming everything expect the glaringly obvious common denominator is tiresome.
quote:

How about the elephant in the room that’s all of the sudden disappeared from the conversation which is this narrative that we were “gonna spend on par with the elites” this cycle?

The McMen didn’t account for the fact that other basketball programs that actually care about results will also up their NIL year to year. They just expected only LSU to increase while everyone stayed the same. It’s really delusional thinking.
quote:

It's a small thing, but illustrative of the overall point that McMahon has never established any kind of identity for HIS program. That is the use of the "Boot Up" motto.

"Boot Up" wasn't some saying steeped in LSU basketball tradition. It was a goofy marketing tagline created by Wade. I would think the very first thing most new HCs would want to do when taking over a program is to establish their OWN culture. Many times that entails getting rid of everything, even mottos, of the past regime. You didn't see Kelly use Orgeron's goofy "one team, one heartbeat" motto. Johnson quickly went to work establishing his own culture for the baseball program. However, literally from his introductory press conference, McMahon came across as overwhelmed, timed, and just happy to be here. Like he was in a new house he maybe wasn't supposed to be in and was terrified of breaking something. That has persisted throughout the last three years

There is no juice in the program. No overall culture/theme of what the program wants to be. No clear mission statement. It's mostly just been a bunch of empty platitudes and cliches seemingly with the hope of just finding some sort of identity along the way. Perhaps that is a byproduct of Murray St, which was a well ingrained culture for decades preceding McMahon. Thus, he didn't need or want to change that culture.

If nothing else, get rid of the "Boot Up" mantra and the dumb "Boot Up belt." Come up with your own tagline/core statement. Your own gimmick to market the program. I would think a degree of ego is required to be a good major conf. HC, and that ego would drive a new HC to say "F-that motto! That was the old guy's thing. I'm in charge now and here is my core belief/statement for MY program. I don't give a shite what the old guy did. He's gone!" Instead, it's just been a pervasive feeling of a lack of confidence...both own and off the court.

Spot on
quote:

We have no plan and no direction, that’s the problem. What are we, a mid major coach poaching mid major and lesser talent.

Don’t hold your breath for an answer. I’ve asked the McMen the question ad nauseam “What is the philosophy McMahon wants to instill?” and have yet to receive any information.

With Nate Oats, you know it’s going to be a run and gun 3 point shooting team. With Kelvin Sampson, you know it’s going to be a major emphasis on defense and offensive rebounding.

Here we are heading into Year 4 of the McMahon era and yet no fans can explain the identity of this program. That’s why, given recent results, I’m very skeptical of any improvement happening.

It really makes you wonder what was discussed in McMahon’s interview for the job. It could not have been too in depth.

Like it or not, I think the first domino to fall in saving us from the McMahon era was Wade getting out of the state. Now that that has happened, should just be a matter of time now (1 more season AT MOST).
quote:

the good news is that if he cant turn it around this year, he is done!

I’ll believe it when I see it. I could see an identical year to this past one and there will STILL be people clamoring to keep him citing perceived disadvantages, selective “improvement”, etc.

By objective metrics (making the tournament as an SEC coach), he is the worst coach in the conference.
quote:

Yea seems, as many have said, our NIL commitment was not what we thought. With just average money and a coach who has not won and the fanbase wants gone, makes sense that guys aren’t coming.

So next season will just be a waste of time. Fun.
quote:

The on3 and 247 guys have no idea what the plan is

That’s because not even the staff has an idea what the plan, vision or philosophy is for this program should be. It’s all about getting as much talent as possible, putting together stubborn game plans that do not fit player strengths and creating erratic and head scratching rotations from game to game.
