I’m glad that I have no idea who any of these people are.

This is certainly 1 way to say you had a shitty life

I just got back from Morgan City, Houma, and Thibodaux,,,,doesn’t look like Car2 damage, not even Cat1

That doesn’t surprise me. I was told it was very specific neighborhoods that took on the most damage/water. Not widespread chaos
quote:

had not heard about that. Do you know how many people would be affected by the 2 weeks outage? Is it a small area?

No clue. I honestly found it hard to believe it would take that long, but I’d have to imagine a majority of people would have power by then. Not trying to change your plans, just passing along some info I’ve heard from the area.
Yeah I don’t think it will take that long for most. Some maybe. Like someone mentioned, it doesn’t seem like the neighborhood lines were damaged all that much, but their main line can’t power their substations.

Not sure though, just relaying what I saw. Really hope no one is out of power for that long

From all the contacts I have in Houma, Patterson and Franklin they all say that physical damage was not too bad, just a lot of power outages. Most believe power will be repaired in a few days because there wasnt as much pole damage as they had from Ida. They said most is power lines down or limbs on a line which is easier to repair.

My in laws are in Patterson, Morgan City, and Stephenville. They made out ok but said there are some neighborhoods in the area that took it way worse than they were expecting.

Apparently the main transmission line is down for SLECA. They won’t give any type of expected date for power to come back but mentioned it could be up to 2 weeks in some areas

Spending some time in these threads makes me understand why they have to remind people not to run generators inside every hurricane.

Makes me wish more people would, tbh
“It wasn’t their best work”

Maybe not, but that would suggest their body of work is pretty fricking good considering how well they tracked this one

Hey now, don't question the Great NHC. I know we know that fed gov organizations are wholly inept but the one exception is the Great NHC. Crazy but its true. And we shouldn't push for better performance because they are doing as good of a job as possible so there's no room for improvements. In this one instance, big gov has nailed it. All the other gov outfits are trash; not this one though.

Anotha one

Francine was nowhere near a Cat 2 storm. Everyone is focused on the track and not the fact that not one weather station on land recorded winds approaching 100 mph. NHC said 100 mph sustained and gusts to 120 mph. Let's pause for a minute to think how or why this would be so inaccurate. NHC is under NOAA...what narrative have they been pushing?

Yikes
quote:

how am I the whiny one? these people are complaining about the forecast being within the forecast cone

 bro I agreed with you except for one small insignificant part and you called me a child

I also said the people you were arguing with our dumb. Friendly fire god damnit
quote:

@slack please teach these kids about the fricking line again.

Lol I was on your side, but now I see that you are just being a whiny little bitch for whatever reason
quote:

Are you for real? Do you really expect them to forecast this line? If they had the ridicule would've been endless.

Idk why you’re so angry, I literally stated the line wouldn’t be a perfect match, nor should it be expected. So no, I don’t expect them to perfectly forecast the line, which I already stated. Try slowing down when you read.
quote:

the line is useless. inside of the cone is the forecast

I agree they didn’t botch it, but I don’t really agree with this statement.

NHC makes a forecast for the exact location they think it will be in. That’s the line. The line is the forecast. The cone is just the average margin of era over a certain time period.

So TECHNICALLY, Their forecast was a little to the west (the forecast will never be perfect, nor should anyone expect it to be), they just happened to miss within their normal margin of error. Which is still incredible.

This is really a dumb thing to argue about though. Generally speaking they nailed a southeast Louisiana landfall days before this thing even started moving this way. Anyone criticizing the NHC is dumb as hell

If it’s not careful with this eastern track it’s going to run straight through Mobile

You can keep saying that over and over and showing that image where a 20 mile shift isn't one pixel - you're wrong. The cone shifted.

Lmao

MIL in Patterson said power is out. 60 mph at the water plant.

My MIL in Patterson also said the power is out
