I grew up on NHL hockey and grew into enjoying international competitions much, much more. Except, come playoffs time, I don't watch anything else but NHL. I can see how the interest would be focused on the Olympics hockey rather than regular season hockey, unfortunately.

Yeah, but unless you like watching juniors or the girls, we just don’t get much of it.

I wish they would play on international sized rinks at the Olympics. The main rink of the 3 at our HS home rink was international sized. I played defense and it certainly made a difference with the longer and much wider ice surface

I'm trying to figure out who's whining more. Is it the Canadians about losing or CNN about the celebration?

I don’t really care. I’m gonna keep celebrating. I’ve waited so long for this moment. I paid the USA hockey dues (literally and figuratively)for probably close for probably 20 (years. (mostly my parents lol) Sunday made it seem worth it. Finally!

Now if the Dems refuse to stand and applaud our gold medal hockey team at the SOTU… the celebration just got that much more intensified.

I just saw this

The amount of turns and spins from them, you'd think they were hardcore about the figure skating lifestyle instead of hockey. Free comedy watching them cope and make excuses.

This is one of the reasons I wasn’t upset they came back and won their semifinal game.

For me, the gold medal win HAD to be against them. HAD to be. Did I want it to go to OT? Not necessarily. Now that we won am I glad that it did? ABSOfrickINGLUTELY. Now we have a “golden goal” moment and ours is even better considering who was on the ice, who turned it over, etc.
You know, one of the things that I enjoyed the most… I’m a Lightning fan (well they are my adopted team from living there) I figured Jon Cooper, would do this, texted to my group text “watch him throw Mackinnon, McDavid and Makar out there”

I figured it would happen, just not at the opening faceoff of OT. Our guys did a great job of not panicking and pinching… we actually did similar stuff in the 5 on 3 kill.

Wasn’t those 3 all on the ice when we scored the game winner?

i think 4v4 would be better - but they've gotta get it wrapped up and its better than a shootout.

This is exactly the way it was done prior to this Olympics.
It’s actually pretty funny with the whole injury comparison. It’s always cool to hear after the Stanley cup finals what the injuries players actually played through. Things like broken wrist, broken ribs, torn groin, etc.

Even during the regular season hockey players are begging to play. Sometimes too soon and the medical team has to tell them no. There is none of this load management BS. They aren’t just sitting random games for no legit reason. They make WAY less and the play a FAR more dangerous game.

They can put as many ads on field, stadiums, jerseys, referees, fans, equipment as they want if it meant I could watch a football game in under 2 hours.

Then people would stop actually going to the games. In order to fill these 100,000+ seat stadiums, you have people driving in from 2+ hours each way,
They should have never had to do that though. The USA/Canada gold medal game in 2010 was epic even though we lost. It wasn’t like the product was getting dry or overdone. How many times was Crosby’s goal shown throughout that yesterday and I’m including the pregame?

I will say this, yesterday was the perfect game to flip the script on Crosby’s OT winner against us. It was the exact opposite result. I texted to the group chat as soon as the 3rd period ended that I was gonna absolutely lose my shite if we lost to those fricks again in OT.

Now College football has four 3.5 minute ad breaks per quarter AND ads on the jersey

Probably only a matter of time until we get ads on the helmets too, which is terrible for teams that have classic helmets.

I don't mind the NHL TV timeouts. They are set at under 14, under 10, and under 6. Gives you time to go the bathroom, grab a drink etc.

This just reminded me that the NHL doesn’t do TV commercial breaks during OT in the playoffs.

Also reminded me of the 5 OT game during the Covid bubble playoffs in between the Lightning and Blue Jackets in AUGUST lol. I watched the entire game. I root for the Bolts too, my adopted team. I was still living there at the time.

I think the NHL sees is as a very legitimate cchampionship and knows that this year's olympics will certainly help grow the game.

So then why did we have to go 12 years without the NHL players?

That was the best hockey game I’ve ever watched. Fastest speed of play too. It was incredible… I just realized I’ve been watching and/or playing for 30 years now. Great, I can be one of those people now!
Did anybody notice this? There were no commercials during the periods. They only had brief commercials during the intermissions. That was awesome.

I believe they said they were doing 8 one minute breaks for the players/refs throughout each period. Which was fine because NBC either showed/explained key moments from earlier, offensive/defensive strategy examples or showed historical moments in USA hockey history.

Imagine a CFB game like that? Okay, on can dream.

Not a hockey fan in the slightest, but 3v3 hockey is ridiculously fun to watch. I know traditionalist will probably hate it but, F that format is exhilarating. I would watch way more NHL if they incorporated 3v3 into games.

They already do this. OT in the regular reason goes straight to 3 on 3 for 5 minutes. If nobody scores, then it goes to a shootout.

Even in Houston, the kids playing hockey have to share ice time with figure skaters and people who rent it out for birthday parties.

No shite. Ice time is scheduled so that it’s being used as much as possible. So if you’re kid signed up for a house league you might get the ice for 2 separate hour sessions per week. That could be 2 games or 1 game and 1 practice.

During the school year they want that booked from when school is out to adult/beer leagues ending late night. At the rink I grew up playing at they would even schedule HS practices before school. Or the local college club team would have the 5:30 AM or whatever practices. On the weekends it runs from before dawn until past dark.

One game plays, Zamboni, next game starts. Repeat. As little downtime as possible.

It’s too expensive to maintain and just have the ice sitting there being unused. Many of the rinks in the north get rid of the ice for a period of time during the summer because of this.

What’s his affiliation with hockey, if any? Or was he just in attendance?

Kash actually played/plays hockey, so it’s not surprising he was there and excited.
Most people don’t know that Kash actually plays hockey himself…

Not many leftists in the hockey world to begin with.
