There's just something special about a ballpark, even these days.
It’s hard to articulate the feeling of being at a ballpark, but it just feels like one of the most American things a person can do. When you’re at a game, you just feel like all is well with the world. You feel connected with your dad and grandpa who also loved that experience, and you feel a special camaradie with the fans. There’s just something about it: the cold beer, the sound of the bat hitting the ball, the announcers, the music, the cheers—everything.

Heck, take your daughters to a baseball game, too. There are few things in life more enjoyable than spending an afternoon or an evening at a baseball game. If you ever get a chance to watch your team at the CWS in Omaha, go. Drive if you can. A road trip to Omaha with your son or daughter is one of the best experiences in life. Coming back home after winning it all is priceless.

What in the hell is that noise in the background? It sounds like a couple of feral cats mating.

I emailed Mississippi Senators Wicker and Hyde-Smith two days ago and have not received even a canned response.

That’s sad. Part of making America great again needs to be having different political views but still loving and respecting one another. Globalists have been successful with their divide and conquer strategy and we need to rise above it.
Amen. Our enemies want our nation divided. Families being fractured over politics is insane to me. I have family members who have differing political views, but we all still love one another and break bread together. I can’t even imagine having a sibling who would cut contact with me over a vote.

Imo they will have to go much more moderate and tell the extreme left to frick off but just don't think they can.
Agreed. It appears that they are currently in the midst of a schism. There’s the faction who can see that catering to the far left extremists has tanked their chances with more moderate voters, and then there are the far left extremists and those of their ilk who demonize anyone who dares to question their radical ideology. If they would be more like the blue dogs of the past, they’d be in a much better position. However, if they went more to the center now, it would look like pandering rather than a genuine reset.

Would you support a mandatory sterilization program if the individual has a child, and requests government assistance/ welfare? An individual couldhave as many children as they want, but as soon as that person requests welfare, government assistance, etc. then they must submit to sterilization.
I would prefer an incentivization plan. Pay welfare recipients a few thousand bucks to voluntarily have a tubal ligation or a vasectomy. I suspect many of them would do it to get some quick cash.
ETA: And it would still cost the taxpayers far, far less in the long term.

I listened to Dr. Haidt on Huberman’s podcast this summer, and it made a lot of sense. Here’s the link if you are interested.

I don’t disagree. Unfortunately, they may be dead by now. That situation was nearly 30 years ago. Hopefully, one or two may still be alive and of sound mind and can shed light on what happened.

If the molestation allegations were discussed at a school board meeting the minuets should be available
Not necessarily. Often, a school board will handle this sort of matter in executive session, which is closed to the public. However, minutes should state if they went into executive session and the reason why (such as to discuss a personnel matter involving a teacher).

My friends/in-laws in Punta Gorda are also fine. They flooded a little more than they did in Helene (first floor), but all are well.

The homes on West Retta Esplanade along Charlotte Harbor took 4ft for Helene. Those are the first line of houses. If they took on water from Helene I don't understand staying. I imagine Milton is going to be a lot worse for those houses.
That is exactly where one of them lives. The other lives in Pirate Harbor. I am praying they leave.

We have in-laws (extended) in Punta Gorda who will not leave. Both live on the water and flooded during Helene. We’ve shared the projected surge maps with them and really hope they leave, but we can’t force them to take our advice. I am praying they survive.

The storm surge can can cause flooding miles inland. It’s going to backfill every canal, creek and tributary. It can even reverse flow a river. You have to remember it’s going to be billions of gallons of water pushing into the costal area.
This is exactly what happened to our home during Katrina. Water from the Sound surged up the tributaries and caused flooding from the bayou (normally more like a ditch—and certainly not navigable) behind our house. I remember hearing that the surge is actually magnified in those tributaries, but I am not 100% sure of that. I just remember hearing it from someone post-Katrina.

You’re preaching to the choir. No way would I stay. I’m trying to convince some family friends to leave.

That mentality is just crazy to me. I’m not there to see the traffic, but I can’t help but think going south to Miami or Key West would be a better option than staying.
The best decision we ever made was getting out before Hurricane Katrina hit. Our house was still standing, but the surge came up the bayou and flooded our house. There was no electricity for weeks. It was certainly not a place I wanted my family to be at that time. I cannot understand people wanting to stay.

Thanks for sharing those maps, DeCat. I’ve had the surge map sent to some friends to try to convince them to evacuate. They live in Punta Gorda on the water. One’s street is expected to get 17-19’ surge, and the other’s street is expected to get 15-17’. I cannot fathom anyone staying with that surge, but they don’t want to leave. Both had flood damage from Helene. I’m very afraid for them and know they don’t understand the danger they are in—despite others trying to convince them. I hope and pray that they evacuate.

Thanks for the quick response, even though I was hoping to learn otherwise. I live on the MS/AL border, which is where this one is possibly headed.

Question: Do large, intense hurricanes have a cooling effect on the Gulf? I’m wondering if Helene may have cooled the Gulf and, if so, can that potential cooling effect make it less likely for a subsequent hurricane to intensify?
