Had this thought tonight: has anybody given any consideration to incorporating Mardi Gras Indian culture into this?
There's all kinds of names you can draw from that which are intrinsically New Orleans, but not as obvious or campy as Voodoo/Krewe/Brass.
Examples: Big Chiefs (little bit too similar to regular Chiefs, probably), Flag Boys, Spy Boys, Wild Men.
Or straight up tribe names: Wild Tchoupitoulas, Wild Magnolias.
I think I'd flip my shite (in a good way) if national media had to start saying "Tchoupitoulas" on a regular basis. Although I guess you run the risk of offending the actual Mardi Gras Indians.
Another one I liked: The Satchmos, after Louis Armstrong.
I dunno. More brainstorming than real suggestions. Just figured I'd toss 'em out.

re: Look, just because many fans want OSU/VT does not mean they fear Bama
Posted by fuzzymayo on 11/27/11 at 12:30 am
Not scared of Bama. But I'm not thrilled at the prospect of splitting two games, 1-1, and not having anything to show for it. Makes no sense.
Also, just for the sake of argument: Bama has beaten 4 teams with winning records this year. They beat an Arkansas team that we just destroyed, and they beat a mediocre PSU team that Wisconsin just destroyed. No other quality wins.
Okie State has beaten 7 teams with winning records.
So what's more important: the fact that Bama's one loss is a lot better than OSU's? Or the fact that Okie State's resume blows Bama's out of the water?

For all the hype and bullshite that went into that game, why did we even bother with it if we're just going to do it again?
Especially since, you know, Bama will have done nothing to earn it. If LSU gets to the BCS title game, the final month of their season would involve beating No. 2 Bama, No. 6 Arkansas and No. 14 Georgia.
If Bama gets there, the final month of their season would involve losing at home, beating 5-5 Mississippi State, beating an FCS team, beating 7-4 Auburn, and then whining until they get their way.
And if Bama somehow won the rematch, they'd win the national title despite the season series being tied 1-1? Doesn't make any sense.

Everything is Coke. Every. damn. beverage. is Coke.
Your stadium needs to hold 85k+ to be revered. 80k is respectable. Anything less than 75k is laughable.
RV's start to arrive on Thursday night. Spots are staked out as soon as campus closes on Friday afternoon. If tailgating has not begun in full force by sunset on Friday, you fail.
You hate whoever is visiting with a burning passion, but visiting rivals get free food and free beer. And you'll be damned if they don't have an amazing time and come away impressed by your home. All of this comes after mocking/harassing the shite out of them, of course.
If you lose a non-conference game, you are a disgrace and will be mocked as such.
fricking barbecue. If you can't find it on game day, you damn well better be in Louisiana, because that's the only acceptable excuse.
The women on your campus should be absurdly attractive, and should treat game day as a chance to show themselves off at their classiest or sluttiest, similar to Halloween. If this isn't the case for at least 70% of them, there's a problem.
Basketball is only to be discussed when every single bowl game is over, and will only be important until spring baseball training starts. If you need to circlejerk about hoops, do it with Kentucky, and maybe Arkansas will join in.
If you don't travel with your team at least once every now and then, you're doing it wrong. True dedication is making several road trips per year.
If you lose a bowl game to Ohio State, you are a disgrace.
SEC schools come first in SEC states, overall. The Falcons and Braves are a big deal in Atlanta, and the Saints are a big deal in New Orleans, and some people somewhere in Nashville probably give a frick about the Titans. But to Georgia, Louisiana and Tennessee as a whole, SEC schools are the stars of the show.
Everyone hates everyone. If you can't find a reason to despise a fellow member, you aren't trying hard enough. But when the regular season ends, you damn well better be rooting for your conference brethren to represent.
Lax liquor laws are a must. If drinking on campus on gameday is a pain in the arse, I consider you a pain in the arse. Looking at you, Gators.
The insanity never stops. If football isn't a prominent topic 365 days a year, you don't have the right culture. When the regular season ends, it's bowl season, and when the bowl season ends, it's recruiting hysteria. Recruiting hysteria goes to a new level on NSD, and we actually mock each other and get excited about which unproven 18 year old kids decided to play for our school. When NSD is done, it's time to debate team issues ahead of spring ball, then it's time to over-analyze every absurd piece of trivia that comes out of spring practice and break down the spring game (don't forget to mock your rivals about who had the worst attendance for their spring game. Mizzou is without a doubt going to get reamed for this). After agonizing over how your departing players did in the NFL Draft, the Fulmer Cup arrives and we take turns agonizing and making fun of our players and other people's players who run afoul of the law. Then it's Media Days, and then it's the regular season. Repeat ad nauseam for the rest of your life. Love every second of it.
Welcome to the SEC.

It definitely didn't go into much history, but it wasn't supposed to. The focus of the show was the rise to success by both programs in 09 and 10, and the intensity it created. Not great, but I enjoyed it.
Although I enjoyed reading all the Barners and Gumps trashing it than the actual show

he same scene we saw Saturday night in Tuscaloosa takes place in similar variations every week in Auburn, Baton Rouge, Oxford and Athens. Visiting fans make road trips in droves, because they can. Missouri, on the other hand, is an average 600-plus miles from the rest of the conference.
Mandel is crazy if he doesn't think SEC fans will make these trips. Mizzou is pretty close to St. Louis; aTm is pretty close to Houston. That gives opposing fanbases an interesting city to fly into before the game, and an easy drive for the game (similar to all the LSU fans who flew into Pittsburgh and drove to Morgantown this year).
A lot of SEC fans plan their year/budget/vacation around road trips. Flying to St. Louis, catching a Cardinals game, and then watching LSU beat on Mizzou sounds like a pretty solid weekend to me.

I honestly had LSU at 8-4 or 9-3. That September schedule just looked impossible back in July/August.
More than happy to be wrong.

At least FSU is in another conference. Not as bad as the time then-FSU QB Wyatt Sexton was photographed inside The Swamp, wearing a UF hoodie.
I don't remember if that was before or after he was arrested for doing shirtless handstands in the middle of a Tallahassee street at 1 a.m., and telling responding police he was God.

re: What are your Favorite Alabama v LSU moments

The blocked FG to force overtime in 2008 was the loudest I've ever heard Tiger Stadium. It was raining coke for about three straight minutes.
The botched call on the PP pick sucked, but I don't think it hurt as much as losing in OT the year before.
2007 was classic in every sense of the word. And the Peterson reverse with Jefferson leading the way was one of the top 3 moments from 2010.

Never said LSU was a great school, especially since the nonsense with the budget began.
My point was that people who feel like they're getting anything "more" out of going to Alabama over LSU probably just don't like LSU to begin with.
Unless you're going to Vandy or Florida, the difference in any SEC education is pretty negligible, I would guess.

If he's as good as most people in the thread seem to think, maybe we could spell his name correctly in the thread title?

I'd venture to guess LSU has just as many highly ranked programs as Alabama...
When I was deciding where to go to school, which wasn't very long ago, Bama and Ole Miss were backup options for kids who were so dumb they couldn't even get into LSU. Or kids who had decent grades but couldn't afford Tulane/Loyola, but were too full of themselves to go to LSU.
LSU ain't great by any stretch, but Alabama isn't anything to be proud of.

It's Chinese, but it's good shite. Bought a white Ingram jersey right after the season started. I think I ordered it after the Green Bay game, and I had it by the week of the Houston game. It came in like, 7-10 days, which is pretty damn good for international shipping. It cost about $45 including shipping and it looks legit.
I just checked and they have a pretty unbeatable selection -- Brees, Sproles, Colston, Meachem, Graham, Ingram, Moore, Thomas, Devery, Vilma, Porter, Harper, Jenkins, Hartley, Ellis and Jordan.
They even have a black Daniel jersey. That would've been a great one to break out last night .

It seems like we're really deep into the season at this point, but 11 more games is a long damn time.
Two games with Detroit, @ the Giants, @ San Diego. Home games with Chicago and Oakland. Can't write off Tampa as a worthy challenger, despite how awful they looked today.
Talk to me again around Week 11. Not ready to crown them yet. But they look damn good and very scary so far.
