On a long term deal. It’s a spot we need athleticism and it’s a spot he’s shone before. I dig it.

Wonder if Tierney can come in to the team and push Saka to left wing. I’m not of the opinion that Saka is our of position at left back. He’s been stellar there. But it’d be interesting to see Saka on the left and Auba up top.
Will be good to have options.

Top photo is an average position map from our 2-0 loss to Leicester under Emery.
Bottom is from the draw vs. Bournemouth under Arteta.
Thought our tactics were vastly improved and in a really short amount of time.
Loved how we used AMN as an inverted fullback. Thought Torreira showed signs he can be our 6, and we need to find the right pair of 8s to play in front of him.
Laca needs to get his confidence back. Martinelli is going to shine in this set up.
Glad to finally have something to enjoy about this season. Really optimistic about Arteta.

Don’t post here much any more but still lurk like a mofo.
Merry Christmas. Hope it’s sexy.

Can Thierry come back and play for us again in this one?

Think my preference is:
- Arteta (we have nothing to lose, high ceiling, great communicator, tactically astute)
- Poch (for banter if nothing else)
- Rodgers (always liked his Liverpool teams...is that weird?)
- Ancelotti or Benitez to finish the season (try and salvage something)
Not interested in Nuno at all. Whatsoever.

frick Mourinho. He is a club destroyer. He is the antithesis of the ideals Wenger asked us to uphold.
He can stay far the frick away.
Freddie as caretaker. If he wins the league he keeps the job. If not we bring in someone else.
Would be fine with Arteta. I’m okay if we miss on managers as long as we take chances and keep stability with Edu, Raul, etc.
Josh seems more invested this year too which is good. Seems like we are a good head coach away from being where we need to be.
Short term sucks and has sucked for a while but long term we seem to be in a good spot.

Apparently Talking to Strangers is selling more as an audiobook than a physical copy, which is unheard of in publishing.
He did create a podcast-like audiobook after his success with Revisionist History.
I like Gladwell. He’s a bit reductionist and more of a summarizer/aggregator than anything, but that’s his niche and he’s good at it.
Just read The Tipping Point. Talking to Strangers is in deck.

Pepe has a few assist, he is great at getting ball down there but can’t shoot for shite
Leads us in chances created. He's just stuck out on the wing by himself. You can tell he misses Laca to connect with.
Bellerin's return will really help him. And I think Laca's will too. Pepe likes to beat his man, run at a defense, and play 1-2s. All he can do right now is the first part because of who is around him and the system.

Also terrified at the prospect of Kola in a back four.
Gotta get three points tomorrow. Chelsea and United have problems. Top four is a must this year and we should take the chance to start staking a clam for third.

Honestly, there is a good player in Mustafi somewhere
Used to think so, but I think half the battle defensively is IQ and instincts, and he's so deficient in both. Don't think that'll ever change.

Not trying to discount that at all, just commenting. He's a better finisher than Giroud, but he arguably misses just as many good chances.
Some stats from Premier League's website.
Big chances missed, 2018-19:
Auba: 20
Vardy: 17
Salah: 16
Kane: 11
Auba's missed a bunch this year, but he also gets into spots no one else does. For example, last year, Salah missed 23 big chances, and Kane missed 18. Auba missed six after coming in in January.
Look at conversion rate.
Auba: 20 goals on 82 shots (24%)
Salah: 22 goals on 128 shots (17%)
Aguero: 20 goals on 112 shots (18%)
Kane: 17 goals on 102 shots (17%)
Hazard: 16 goals on 90 shots (18%)
Laca: 13 goals on 74 shots (18%)
We also lead the league in conversion rate. The problem is we aren't creating enough chances or shooting enough. We're 8th in shot attempts but 3rd in goals.
We desperately need a winger or attacking mid who can carry the ball and beat people inside or down the line. We have a bunch of passers and no ball carriers.
ETA: From Twitter
quote:
Arsenal's conversion rate of 23.1% of shots resulting in goals this season (excluding blocked shots) is the highest of any team in any Premier League campaign since Opta first started analysing games in 1996

Just leaving that here. Honestly afraid to check my post history on those two clowns. And Mkhi’s give away today.
Europa or bust.

Clive made a good point on the last Arsenal Vision pod that Mustafi was a fullback coming up and probably got moved to CB because of his body type and lack of speed. He just has no sense of how to be a CB. Positioning is terrible, tackles terribly. The sooner we’re rid of him the better. I always rated Gabriel and wished we’d have kept him over mustafi. He wasn’t amazing and he had his share of mistakes but he was on a way better deal and was tough and tenacious and better than Mustafi.
Iwobi was good. He’s so frustrating in the final third but he’s quality. If he can improve 10 percent in the final third and be more consistent he can be really quality.

Good piece in The Athletic on Tab Ramos and the U-20s
Posted by Stewie Griffin on 1/17/19 at 10:59 am
quote:
Ramos pointed to Paul Pogba, who was released by Juventus to be able to play in the 2013 U-20 World Cup for France. Pogba was a regular starter in Serie A at the time. Similarly, Mexican stars Chucky Lozano and Erick Gutierrez were released by Pachuca during the Liga MX playoffs in order to prepare for the U-20 World Cup with Mexico. “Yet, I’ve already received a letter from an MLS club this year saying if their player is playing (in MLS) he’s not going to the World Cup,” Ramos said. “That’s already happened and we’re six months away. So I have to hope this player is doing terrible in the next six months in order to go to a World Cup? This is ludicrous. It’s ridiculous.”
quote:
One of the top U-20 players in this cycle, Alex Mendez, was never signed by the LA Galaxy out of its academy and signed with SC Freiburg in Germany. Ramos believes Mendez compares with most any top young player signed in MLS in the last few years. “When I watch him play, I’m thinking, wow, this kid is American? How is that possible? This is Riquelme.” Ramos said. “I see some of the signings in MLS that come from South America, $10-15 million, and I’m thinking let’s turn around and say Alex was born in Buenos Aires and let’s put a price tag on Alex. He’s worth every bit of $15 million. That’s how I see it.”

Guessing this is a power struggle with Raul and maybe Emery.
