re: high energy dog breed question
Posted by bamfchris on 4/28/12 at 11:42 pm
I have a wire haired griffon mix that i have taken on multiday hikes and constantly take on runs when i know there is plenty of water around.
She carries a pack and I have taken her on mountain trips, trips during the snow and trips during high heat times and have never had problems no matter what the terrain.
Griffons are a very versatile and playful breed and my dog will outrun or hike me every time i take her with me. They are usually bred as a hunting dog but with a little exercise are great dogs indoors or out. Their bloodline is very pure so they are known to be disease and ailment free and live for a very long time.
They are a little stubborn and according to wikipedia "A standing joke among Griffon owners is that a nice thing about a Griff is that you get to have a puppy for a long time - and a bad thing about a Griff is that you get to have a puppy for a long time." which i find to be very true.
here's mine while doing the Chicot loop with ease (20 miles) Not sure what other breed she is (probably a lab because she is a little bigger than average griffons) but her personality is more griffon than anything else.

also would trail running help reduce shin splints? i get them pretty bad but have never tried trail running
My legs always feel better when running on trails as opposed to the road. You may be really sore at first from using new muscles, but running on grass or dirt is much better on the legs overall.

I have brooks Cascadias and absolutely love them. I also wear mine when backpacking and hiking. They dry quickly, offer good stability without being too clunky and are comfortable to wear all day. They have the brooks DNA midsole in them which reacts differently to each surface and foot-strike so transitioning from trails to road, rocks, grass and mud are all done with ease.
I love brooks shoes for road and trail shoes so i recommend anything by them. Apparently their new trail shoe, Pure Grits are pretty awesome for those looking for a minimalist trail shoe.

re: Anyone play EVE?

On a related note Dust 514 looks pretty interesting. It's going to be an MMOFPS somehow linked to the EVE universe but on PS3.
LINK /
I played eve for a month or so but not my cup of tea. I used to play earth and beyond, which was what i was expecting in EVE.
If they can pull off Dust 514 and even allow you to link an EVE character to a Dust character, i will definitely buy both.

Barneys is like 20 a day but only goes up to 50 yards. I always go out to a range near cecilia(i think),i know its next to the levee, that my friend belongs to. Up to 300 yards on the rifle, with a pistol range and skeet thrower.
Can't remember the name, but ill try and find out. Besides that i know the sheriffs have a range at the end of alexander passed acadiana park. I used to be a member of Hub city but that closed a few years back.

Any idea on the beta release or official release date? I signed up for the beta but havent heard anything.
Im hoping its after the summer because with new battlefield DLC, Arma 3, and CS:Go coming out this summer ill be FPS my arse off. But if it is summer ill just play that instead of Battlefield because 4 FPS will be a bit much.
Anyone idea what faction yall will choose? Im leaning vanu sovereignty right now from the artwork and weapons ive seen, but its gonna be hard choice.

re: Brandon Bergeron.. 2013 Anybody seen this kid? Link

I sense a lot of current cougars in this thread. If only the recruiting boards approval would get him an offer.
Kid looks good but as of now he's lower tier SEC at best. Got a season left to prove otherwise, but with the horrible playcalling at STM recently i don't see much hope for him to light it up in any signifigant (playoff) games that would give him that edge over other qbs of the same mold.
Good luck cougars, hope the coaches can finally figure out how to call a playoff game for yall instead of "disguising tendencies" late into the 4th quarter.

Seems like a lot of good stuff is out already. I had to reinstall, so i havent got to try any but "Wars in Skyrim" and Hardcore mode sound really cool.
Theres also a Dovahkiin hideout and a bunch of visual enhancements that seem to improve the game greatly.

i agree that all those listed are great but to be fair its safe to say that those are not the best they have to offer.
A few that ive seen are Fawlty towers, Im Alan Partidge, Spaced, Blackadder, Extras(i consider it British because of Gervais and Merchant),Little Britain, Monty Python,Whose line is it anyway,Doc Martin, and kingdom. Some better than others but each definitely have their moments.
While they may not be everyone's type of comedy these are all worth watching. I'm not saying british comedy is better but considering most of these appeared between two networks; it is a pretty good track record. You can't discount what British comedy has done to influence TV today and i have only watched and/or mentioned a small portion of them.

Like so many other great bbc shows. They are stingy with that 3rd season it seems.

Peep Show
Just started watching this on netflix and i love it so far.
I feel with british television they put more emphasis on talent as opposed to good looks.
Hbo and AMC follow this formula with great success.
Most british actors have some formal training where most american networks will put pretty faces who can't act for shite.
Extras, the office(UK), spaced, little britain as well as the wire, sopranos, breaking bad.. are great examples of shows with "ugly" leading characters. They also know when to end a show so that it doesn't drag on until mediocrity. Instead we cancel quality shows like arrested development and squeeze every last drop out of shows like the office.
You don't see this too often with network television lately.

I loved netflix for about a year but im getting pretty low on good titles. I enjoy many different genres so its not like i am only in it for one type of show.
I just wish they would update their selection more often. There are some good classic movies and lesser known gems in there, but those can only hold me over for so long. Ive seen most of the older "classics" and the majority of the good tv shows, and documentaries.
Im sure there are a lot more i would enjoy to watch but having to look for hours for something isn't that appealing to me when i can torrent it in the same amount of time. Still.. for 7 dollars. why not?

re: Good backpacking Trips Near Louisiana( Kinda)

Yea, if its something like buffalo river or big bend i will rent canoes and try to hike a little bit to see things off the river.
Id rather do a true backpacking trip because i like the challenge of a long hike and deciding on what to pack. I also want a reason to use my new Marmot Nusku tent. Being able to load up a canoe kind of takes the challenge out of it, though i still plan on doing both one day; id prefer something a little more adventurous.
Ive done some backpacking in great smoky national as well as plenty in Maryland, virginia and Penn. so i think id rather go west if i were going that far. I love the Appalachians but if you've seen one part it seems you've seen them all.

Looking for a good 3-6 day trip within a days drive of lafayette. I am considering buffalo river, big bend national park but am open to go a little further if it is worth it. I am open to any type of terrain or challenge so suggest away.
Doesn't have to be a boat trip like the two listed but i hear both are very beautiful for being this far south. I know Yellowstone is 23 hour drive but that's pushing it.

Considering about 90% of the starters on any college team have at least one tattoo i wouldn't think it means too much.

I believe t suggs and the Ravens would have had something to say about the steelers winning the superbowl if they made the playoffs... and didnt drop both games to them in the regular season.

Love when i hear stuff like that. Danny Wood-head is nothing like the first two. Its clear you don't understand football if you think they are the same type of player. Yes, they are all white.. I'm glad you can make that connection.
re: Why are so many people so dissappointed about Toshiro D. & This Class
Posted by bamfchris on 2/1/12 at 2:52 pm
Obviously our class could have been better if we would have won the game but if you follow recruiting you would understand that one year does not define a program. If we continue to be at the top of our conference we will continue to recruit well.
We have plenty of players in this class to be excited about. Jeremy Hill, Travin Dural, and Kwon alexander will be studs. If we make another run, the blue chips will take notice and come.
We seemed to do fine with worse classes in the past, so there's no need for all of this panic.

Not worth even going there.. but to place it next to wars, tsunamis and famine?
You sir, need to consider a new source for your news.. I could list about 50 things our country faces that would be more of a problem... some radical conservative movement is not one of them.
