Ron Santo, Craig Biggio, Barry Zito
Here's an option for the Heat: over-the-hill retired vet who has slimmed down to his playing weight, ego-driven, lacking a championship ring, known for great passing skill in his time, instant hit with the Miami fan base - but the question is will Dan Marino sign for the NBA minimum.

Is Charles Barkley still in D-Wade's 5? Maybe a phone call would convince him to hush up about LBJ, take the league minimum, and come get that ring that eluded him.
Tommy Lasorda
Tottenham Hotspur is named for a Shakespearean character/ historical figure who supposedly was an ancestor of my favorite novelist, Louisiana's Walker Percy. So that's a cool lame reason for me to pick a team. But I guess I'm looking for someone who should stay in the hunt and be exciting to watch. I respect the San Antonio Spurs but would not want the bulk of my time watching the NBA to be spent on them.

Yeah I watched the Cup, rooted for the Americans and the teams where I have family roots (Italy, Spain, and Germany.) I was in awe of the Brazilians in 2002.

I can't stand watching Big 12 games that don't involve Oklahoma and the big 3 Texas teams, and I really hate the attitudes of OU and Texas fans. While I hate the idea of mega-conferences, watching the Big 12 implode is a plus.

I've only really followed soccer during the World Cup the last 12 years. I'm wanting more and plan to get into watching the Premier League, maybe La Liga. I know that I should hate Man U because they are evil, but who should I root for? Keep in mind my only allegiance outside of local teams is to the Chicago Cubs.

That's silly. Las Vegas doesn't have a lake worth mentioning. I'm gonna quit reading this board and go back to listening to my Louis Armstrong Live in Utah album.
Wrigley Field and the Astrodome, and being at Opening Day in Wrigley has to be my best experience as a fan in any sport.
Hornets posts are the main reason I come to the More Sports Board, but not the only reason. Count me in.

Shaq made a lifetime fan of me in 1990 when I asked him for his autograph in the quad. I was maybe 5'2" in the 8th grade, and he saw me hovering trying to decide whether to come over or not. He asked me how did you know it's me when I'm wearing shades. Then he took my notebook and drew his name with stars around the letters covering the whole inside cover. I was thrilled.
I'll never forgive my grandmother for taking that notebook away from me to store it for safekeeping. She died 2 years later, and I never saw it again.
Other famous sports figures I have met: Jack Kemp, Don Sutton, Dusty Baker, Jim Abbott.

The Astros have come a lot closer the last six or so seasons.
Cubs by 6.5 games over the last six and a half seasons and better by 35.5 games over the last 3 and a half seasons. And you know you would rather have Tom Ricketts pulling the strings than Drayton McLane for the next six years.
2010 Cubs 39-50, Astros 36-53
2009 Cubs 83-78, Astros 74-88
2008 Cubs 97-64 (Div Champs), Astros 86-75
2007 Cubs 85-77 (Div Champs), Astros 73-89
2006 Astros 82-80, Cubs 66-96
2005 Astros 89-73(WC, NLCS Champs), Cubs 79-83
2004 Astros 91-70 (WC), Cubs 88-73
Over. Tom Ricketts is changing the culture in Wrigleyville. The Cubs will win 3 before the Astros win one.

Joe Pa is all class. Nick Saban is Nick Saban. Go Nittany Lions!
Definitely Brees. White resurrected winning in Green Bay. Brees created the championship spirit in New Orleans.
