Help me understand the substitution rule?
Posted by champj3 on 9/6/26 at 9:15 pm
When offense subs then defense gets a chance to sub. The ref holds the ball until defense subs have entered. Yet sometimes it leaves the offense with almost no play clock. Is there a minimum time where the refs pull away no matter if defense has completed subs? Sometimes they intentionally dog it…
Haven’t seen an LSU this well prepared week 1 since

2011 Oregon, or maybe more accurately 2003 v Arizona, though that might not have been week 1.
Just an amazing effort by both the players and staff to get ready to play.
Was truly a special effort.

At the end of the day, it's all about HARM

Both sides arguing their case. The players have an obvious argument that they will be harmed if deemed ineligible. However, the NCAA case for harm is extremely weak. In fact, can't really find an argument that supports their position.
This is ultimately about one last attempt to remain relevant as a governing body.
PS-Wait until the 5 for 5 ruling comes under scrutiny. It's not going to hold up either. In time there will be NO limit on eligibility other then proof of enrollment in school, not age or anything else.

Three things to revert back to:
1 25 Sec play clock
2. Game clock stops until play starts after player runs out of bounds
3. Stop game clock on all 1st downs until ball marked for play

Also, LSU can only give each other high 4's
The 1969 & 1970 Tiger teams were two of the best in LSU history. Absolutely sucked what happened in '69 missing the National Championship because of a lone loss to Ole Miss that year.
Sweet Revenge in 1970. Small caveat, Archie did play that game with a broken arm. However, the Tigers outplayed every aspect of the Rebels that day! :geauxtigers:

Rule Change that makes sense

After any first down made by the offense, use the 25 sec play clock option rather then the 40 sec rolling play clock. Meaning wait until the ball is spotted by the ref and chains set and then run the 25 sec play clock. This is used after a penalty already and other dead ball situations.
The benefit, it would allow the team to actually celebrate a chunk play and not have to call timeout because their team couldn't get downfield and set for the next play in time.
I've seen it many times where the QB is just breaking huddle and raises his arm asking for a fresh 40 sec and the ref denies the request and results in a timeout. This takes all the momentum away from the team that just earned it.
Easy change to the rule and it would help the flow.

re: Explanation for “Piped-In Music”
Posted by champj3 on 8/11/26 at 6:59 am to Tigerbait8
It's real simple, have added music during TV timeouts, which unfortunately last forever and are too frequent. Let the crowd enjoy TGBFL during live action and pipe in Tiger Band music when they are entering/exiting the field.
Piped in music is totally appropriate before pregame festivities and post game final celebration. Example Calling BR, and Eye of the Tiger.
One argument to prove that TGBFL is the primary source of entertainment and that you use piped in music as filler around it is the pregame show with the band and Alma Mater and National Anthem. You wouldn't eliminate this for piped in music.
Last point, this isn't an NFL venue where a college game is renting space. People who attend campus games don't need/want the NFL atmosphere otherwise this thread would be completely the opposite.

The first 4 and last 4 games for the Tigers, and why they go 6-2 in that stretch
Posted by champj3 on 7/21/26 at 8:30 am
In the first 4 games they draw a difficult slate where a brand new team must work out chemistry immediately. Thankfully, 3 of 4 are at home, with a practice game wedged between Clemson and Ole Miss. This sets up nicely to keep fresh legs going into Oxford. It's likely LSU loses to either Ole Miss or Texas A&M. My money is on A&M being the culprit since LSU still hasn't proven it can stop Marcel Reed. 3-1 to start.
4-0 in October.
In the last 4, the BEAT DOWN of Alabama that Tiger fans have been waiting for since 2003 finally happens. A well oiled 7-1 Tigers with high chemistry plays their best game and takes Bama to the wood shed with a 30+ point win.
Then an OT win against Texas for a spot at number 1 in the conference happens next. Should feel like 2022 Bama that night beating a likely undefeated Texas.
Then injuries take their toll, specifically on defense, and the Tigers lose a high scoring close one in Tennessee. Something like 49-45 loss. Easy win at Arkansas to finish 10-2.
LSU misses the SEC Champioship game and gets healthy for CFP hosting first round in Tiger Stadium and goes on a run to the finals.
10-2 exceeds expectations for Tiger fans in year 1. :geauxtigers:

For raw talent I don't think Matt Mauck or Matt Flinn had the edge on the four I listed. Yet they both won Championships. It's a difficult cut.

Bama at LSU 2008. LSU throws four INT's and still only loses in OT. If only Miles doesn't kick the starting QB off the team in the summer. :banghead:

I count 9 SEC losses where LSU scored 7+

Runs. Jay Johnson just quoted to say that should be enough for a win. If LSU just wins 5 of those they are in the post season.
Feels like the 2023 Tiger football team losing games 55-48.
All time low for Tiger pitching staff.
