Actually, you should go buy some cheap wine from TJ's and make sangria with fresh fruit.

Lulz. No, it is fine. Calm down, Nurse. I just pictured him planning his whole day around it and being the creeper trying to pick up the college ladies.

Liquor at the pool seems dangerous.
Also, pool days when not in college seems a little gay. Unless it your home pool.

Also, I've tried to tell him to cut back slowly and see how that works, but to no avail.
That won't work for an alcoholic.
Sounds like he wants help. He should go to rehab. And as a friend just be supportive. Come up with nondrinking activities for y'all to do. Hiking, canoeing, hunting..

Very sorry to hear. I lost someone extremely close to the same way in January. I often fear for her boyfriend/fiance who found her. There are grief counselor and suicide survivor groups, which could help you talk through your issues and help! :)
Need to sign up for a group myself as I spent last night crying like crazy, your thread was a reminder.

But will I become dependent on this, and have to keep upping the dosage?
You need to talk to your doctor about this. You won't become dependant. The time limit totally depends on your depression. I was originally given a 4-5 month range, but it's been upped to over a year due to recent losses and hospitalization.
Just worry about getting better!

I was on Zoloft for a few months. It did cause the sexual side effects you fear and also came with insomnia. Yay! But as my DR said anti-depressants are a grab bag drug. You just have to find what works for you. I'm on Celexa now, and it works much better for me.
Also 25 mg seems super low, my psychiatrist told me 50 mg was the norm to start people at.
Just my personal learned the hard way lesson...take the medicine as prescribed. DO NOT stop taking them if the side effects bother you. You have to ween off. Suicidal thoughts are a side effect if you stop taking them. You may end up in the psych ward for 9 days....just sayin.

re: where do people in baton rouge find roommates?

Post on FB that you are looking for a roommate, ask friends to share.
I'd be hesitant as frick to find a roommate on craigslist.

At some point it has to come down to what the lying is about. Meaningless stuff like bragging isnt a problem. Lying about the big stuff is.

You can check in as anyone, but they won't hold you as long if you check yourself in.

No. You have to get psychian ordered there. You have to be a threat to yourself. Not just anyone.

If you think she is a threat to herself take her to the ER. Also check out Baton Rouge Behavioral. The coroner can hold them for up to 14 days. They are a psych ward, but have a lot of addicts as well. Sounds ideal for her. They will adjust medicines correctly and set up out patient treatment.

Nothing is accomplished by covering it up and never talking about it.
I think people do talk about it, but mainly with family and close friends. Also therapists, grief counselors, etc.
People probably don't want to talk about it with every person who finds out. Coworkers, people on FB who haven't spoken to you in years, general acquaintances, people like that. Those people aren't going to be there for you when you need someone to talk to or when you randomly break down. They are only asking out of curiosity.
quote:
And maybe by talking about it, you prevent someone from going down that same path.
That is great if that happens. I have no issue talking with people about mental illness or my experience of losing a loved one because of it.
Telling someone the gory details doesn't really do much good. But that is what people ask about, the details most families do not want to share.

The first season of Bates Motel is on there, I caught up right before season 2 aired.
In the middle of the first season of The Following right now, I am really enjoying it.

My opinion on suicide, which many probably disagree with, is that it should openly be discussed.
I lost an immediate family member recently to suicide.
I don't mind people knowing that. The problem I found is that once you told someone their curiosity kicks in. They want to know if they were depressed (well obviously they were), how they did it, who found the body, are you sure it wasn't murder, where they on medication, etc.
My family and close friends know all the details, I think it is a little disrespectful for someone to pry into sensitive information while the family is mourning. Just knowing it is suicide should be enough. The rest of the information is none of their business.

Why would trying it make someone an idiot? It is basically just clean eating.
