Would it be a bad idea to try to lure Dameyune Craig away from Auburn? I know he is an alum there, but he has been on a Saban staff before. He has learned under Jimbo and Malzahn, and he seems to be an excellent recruiter. I would think that it would be more than a lateral move since he is only considered co-coordinator at Auburn right now.

Grant is not a great recruiter either. He's missed on several.
See Devonta Pollard.

Grant was successful in bringing Pollard in. Pollard got in some trouble having to do with some weird kidnapping scheme with his mom or something like that, and he didn't come back to Bama after one season where he was less than what was expected out of him.

This would be commonly known as 2/1. What you were going for would also commonly be known as 1/5.
quote:

You mad. He hasn't signed yet.

We just agreed that whether or not he has actually signed is irrelevant.

And can we agree that these things are going to be great when they come out in January?
quote:

That's true, but it would be pretty shitty if he signed and then left. I don't think Saban would do that.

I have seen many contracts not signed after agreements have been made.

I think it would be considered equally as shitty if he left after the official announcement came out as well. I think we are in agreement here, and it is just semantics.
quote:

Has Saban actually signed the contract with Alabama? I've asked this before and I got the "you mad" response. I'm not mad I just want to know if he has signed?

Does it really matter? If there is no buyout clause, then the actual signing of the extension means nothing to whether or not he can leave without a penalty.

Saban leaving Bama would be a public relations nightmare for all involved after the announcement of the extension. He has made it very clear that he regrets the way things unfolded with the Dolphins through numerous interviews. I really don't think he is going to make that mistake again, and Alabama has shown that they will do whatever they can to remain competitive with his salary.
So any interesting flights that we should be aware of today?
This is what I was getting mixed up with. It was just tacking on his bonus though.

Either rumors that Texas was offering Saban more money than his then current contract, an actual offer that was more than his then current contract, or it was Alabama making a preemptive deal because they knew the Texas job was about to become available. Depends on who or what you believe. It was one of those scenarios though.

Can some one explain why bama gave NS a second extension this year. I guess losing to Auburn warrants a raise?

By the way please pass this along,

There is a job opening in Austin, TX.

Pretty sure BamaChick is incorrect on this. The simple answer is because the market rate changed.
quote:

Correct. LSU didn't call the bluff like they should have.

I think you have this backwards.
quote:

I agree, they could choose the other schools but you said "5 out of 8 LSU has a good chance at." When in actuality LSU has a good chance at all 8. Not saying we land all 8 but we def have a good chance with all 8.

I think it is fair to say that you have a good chance with each 8 individually. However, you have a poor chance of landing all 8 together. Make sense?
I suggested whatever was within the rules of board. If it's no money, then I'd be happy to put up some other commodity. If that isn't allowed, we could be more creative and so on.

Butt out. The guy posted this:

I'll be happy to make any type of wager you'd like that is within the rules of the board on whether or not Saban stays at Alabama.

Because i'm not sure if the board is against a real money wager. Not once did I use the word "ban." I guess exact wording only matters when it's discussing whether a contract is "signed" or "completed" though.
Rafael Furcal made $7.5 mill last year! What the hell is wrong with baseball?
I'm calm as can be. I enjoy the back and forth. And I don't give a damn about a ban bet. I'd like to make a real wager. My post history and signup date would suggest that a ban wouldn't mean much to me.
quote:

If you're not worried about Saban leaving for Texas, why are you so obviously distraught about Brown resigning?

I don't follow. I'm not distraught about Mack being out. I think it's actually pretty exciting. We wouldn't have much of a coaching carousel to follow without it. It should be a very interesting coaching search. I just don't believe that Saban is still in play.
quote:

Also, Doc was saying that the UT boosters had bought $25M of Saban's debt. They could obviously sign an agreement in secret with Saban and/or Sexton to do that, but I doubt very seriously that they would have paid $25M BEFORE he was locked in as their coach.

Doc definitely changed his tune on this. He said it was a done deal after all this debt stuff happened. Now, he says that they couldn't make an offer before Mack was out; and he doesn't know if Saban will take the $10mill/yr offer.

It's so laughable that people can believe that UT boosters made a "good faith" gesture to Saban to pay off a ridiculous amount of debt and didn't already having him locked up.
quote:

Speaking of, did you ever think it might be Saban's team telling the UT boosters he was coming so they'd leak it for the purpose of extorting more money? I mean the only person who benefited from this whole debacle was Saban. UT got screwed. Bama is paying $7 million for a football coach of amateurs.

This is very plausible, and that is what Jimmy Sexton is paid to do. I have no problem with UA paying $7mill for Saban. The Yankees pay Hiroki Kuroda $15mill a year. Something is seriously wrong with baseball. :rotflmao:
