the term "hunting" connotes the possibility of failure. Chuck Norris goes killing.

my uncle had a 1953 studebaker with an overhead valve v-8. it was a decade or more ahead of everything else in style. GM didn't get a v-8 until 1955.
re: LA Supreme Court judge, Jeff Hughes issue scathing report of EBR family court
Posted by piratedude on 12/11/25 at 8:07 pm to LSUTANGERINE
in chambers for the "status conference" the other attorney informs the judge that her daughter was back from college and available for baby sitting judge's grandchildren. as we discussed custody/support in the case of the parents who got knocked up in high school, the judge says to me "oh, now i understand, your client (mom) is trash."
i asked for a continuance, told my client to hire judge's former campaign manager, and that attorney got everything i had previously requested in a 10 minute status conference 2 weeks later.
just one of many reasons i made it a point to stop going to that court.

re: Need some door hanging help
Posted by piratedude on 11/23/25 at 8:20 pm to NoHoTiger
is it an exterior door with a threshold? if so, it is a bigger job.
if interior, pull the trim, remove the entire assembly, turn the assembly 180 degrees, level, shim and attach the frame to the structure, and replace the trim. If exterior, do the above, but remove the threshold, turn it 180 degrees, and reattach it to the frame. if the knob was on the left, and it swung inwards to the right, the knob will now be on the right and it will swing outwards to the left.
if you've never hung a frame and door assembly, you probably won't enjoy the task or the result.

i don't know how unique it is, but I claimed "Pop" when the first grands started showing up. everybody knows me as Pop, except the 5 year old I see the least. In books, he saw "grandpa" and wondered what that was. When they told him Grumpy (mom's side) and Pop (dad's side) were his grandpas, he decided that he wanted to call me Grandpa. I don't care what they call me, as long as they view me fondly.

unless the law has changed and I missed it, your auto UM coverage does not require you to be in your car to provide coverage. You can be standing on a curb and get run over by an uninsured illegal, and your UM will pay. Raise your limits on all coverage.
re: Small town America is truly depressing

I spent a weekend in Senoia GA recently, and it was anything but depressing. It is a quaint little town, that is fighting to remain quaint and little. We walked two blocks into the town square, had food at Brent and April's coffee shop, then went 2 more blocks down to the music festival. When the kids rode by on bicycles, everyone knew them. 21 year old me would not have liked it, but i would have loved to have raised kids there.

if not living in Louisiana, ignore this.
the chance of you finding a will online that would be effective in Louisiana is about as close to zero as you can imagine. there are 2 basic forms:
Notarial: contains specific attestation clauses and is signed before a notary and two witnesses. for God's sake, have a knowledgeable attorney draft it and act as notary.
Olographic: all handwritten by the person making the will, dated, contains something that sounds like a will (this is my will, at my death I leave x to y) signed at the end. Don't add anything (witnesses, notary, etc.) or you frick it up).
Stop what you're doing right now, write it on a blank paper, give it to the person you trust the most.
Need a horror story?: Nice guy, has some money, a business and land, has a 3rd wife he loves and that treats him like royalty and two sons from the 1st marriage that don't speak much. He's tight with a dollar and wants to leave everything to current wife. He owned all the big ticket items before he married 3, so not community property. he downloads an internet will and takes it to his friendly banker/notary. Banker/notary, is a fricking idiot, says "looks good to me." Not long after, he's killed in a car wreck.
Sons, one a lawyer, contest the will and its obviously invalid. Loving wife #3, who he loved very much, is out on her arse with nothing but her plasma cutter and maybe a welding machine that were gifts.

update:
I got the new pc after lightening struck the old one, and i hooked up the external drive where all the itunes music resides. The apple support team moved me to apple music (essentially the new itunes), and after some work got apple music to synch with the old library. Then i opened the new-in-box 256 gig ipod touch, and with a little help from my support friends, it is now synching 17,000 songs. SWMBO is going to be thrilled that i got all of her music on a device that she knows how to operate. it's even the same shade of pink. thanks for the advice

re: Can one of you genius tell me how to get the smell of dog pets out of a car?
Posted by piratedude on 10/28/25 at 2:50 pm to R11
i bought a truck from a girl that used the back seat as a chihuahua breeding farm and all the dogs smoked. i left it standing open in the sun whenever i could. i sprinkled the carpets with carpet fresh or something similar. i scrubbed the upholstery and plastic panels with murphy oil soap. also constantly hosed it down with febreeze and left it open in the sun.
it took 6 months until it was no longer noticeable (or I adapted). 8 years later and i never notice it.
