Dollhouse
Posted by Elwood P Dowd on 6/27/11 at 10:54 am
Watching Dollhouse for the first time on Netflix. I really like the concept. It definitely has its bad episodes, but for the most part it's pretty good. That being said, it would have been SO much better if Echo was played by Amy Acker instead of Eliza Dushku. Dushku just can't pull off the multiple personalities. Overall her performance is pretty terrible. I find myself wanting to skip around to episodes focusing on other Dolls.

it's up there on that Mount Rushmore of recent comedy films that I had very low expectations for which all turned out to be great I though...Superbad, Pineapple Express, Hangover, and HTTM.
This.

Looks like JJ has chanelled his inner 70's/80's Spielberg for this one.
Spielberg produced it, too. So, I'm ready for some serious family adventure film nostalgia.

She looks good! However, EW definitely photoshopped the hell outta that photo. Jennifer Lawrence definitely has the acting chops, but she's going to have to lose some serious weight to pull it off. She super voluptuous normally, which is awesome...but she is supposed to be a starving child...who loses yet more weight in the games. So, it'll be interesting to see how much she commits to that.

I think I read somewhere that the licensing for Daleks ran out last season so maybe they won't renew it. The BBC doesn't actually own the rights to certain aliens in the Whoverse which is odd.
True. They did say no Daleks this season. Praise Gallifrey.

The old control rooms were tiny. It was pretty cheap of them not to build an old console room. It would have been a nice shout out to old who.
FWIW, I read somewhere that the set for this episode was one of the most expensive of the season. The junkyard/TARDIS graveyard was spectacular.
That episode was literally one of the best Who episodes I've ever seen. A little scary, a little funny and a whole lot of heart. Also, I loved the little Gaiman nuances. Calling the inhabitants of the universe "Auntie" and "Uncle" and "Nephew" was a nice/creepy touch. I'm not going to lie, I teared up a little at the end when she said "I just wanted to say hello."

I believe it. I mean, Judd Apatow put a lot on the line-mainly his reputation as the ultimate funny man-by showcasing funny women. I don't think he'd do it half arse.

I have mad respect for the guy. Success as a doctor. Success as an actor. I mean, I'm kind of jealous. Plus, he's hilarious as Señor Chang on Community.

In terms of formatting (if that is what appealed to you in HoL) I'd read Pale Fire by Vladimir Nabokov. It's a novel of a poem called "Pale Fire" and commentary from a friend of the poet. Lots of jumping back and forth, footnotes, etc. Plus, it's Nabokov. Can't really go wrong.

EW.com Theories
Great articles with a lot of good theories (including suspended animation). However, I don't know how I feel about a clone of Peter's taking the machine back. That's a bit weird (even for Fringe).

Finally got the chance to watch. HOLY FRINGE. Mind-baloooowing.
Kind of what I was thinking. Peter doesn't exist in the paradox he himself has created and traveled back to, i.e. the combined universe. However, the Peter in actual time does still exist.
Also, my sister pointed out that there were a bunch of new words in the opening sequence. One of them was "biosuspension"...so maybe Peter is in some sort of suspended animation? Just a thought. Dual Maternity also appeared, which I suspect has something to do with the two Olivias and the one baby...but I can't start thinking about that either because I get way confused.

When Future Peter tells the combined group they need to work together to repair the the holes etc. the cataclysmic future Peter came from all of a sudden doesn't exist because the combined group works together and doesn't destroy one another. However the original Peter that is in the current time line never got into the machine so he is still around someplace.

How would they be able to make a time lord baby?
Remember how Amy said she didn't tell Rory about the baby because she was worried it would have ended up with two heads or something from all her traveling about in the TARDIS? Well, maybe it does end up a little effed up...just instead of two heads, it ends up with two hearts and the ability to regenerate.

That FB post isn't quite accurate.
Dumbledore doesn't need a wand to do all magic, neither do many wizards.
The best wizard warriors are the ones that can think on their feet and use their enemies' strength against them.
I know I didn't join in the best wizards in Harry Potter debate, and I saw many fail to realize this. What makes you a good wizard is not being powerful, but it's what you do with the power that you have.
Gandalf was too busy getting caught and dying and rescuing people at the last minute to be considered ahead of the game.
Dumbeldore had the foresight to prepare what will come of Hogwarts, Harry, and Voldemort all the while being very educated in all things magic.
Dumbeldore could have beat any wizard in a duel Elder Wand or not. Because he was smart and in tune with magic enough to find a way to win.
This is the best argument I've seen yet. It's a hell of a lot better than "Gandalf is badass!" and "Dumbledore died and Gandalf didn't!" Blargh.
Technically, you can't compare the two because Dumbledore is human and Gandalf isn't...not really. Dumbledore planned his own death and continued to influence an entire war after he left this world. He knew what was to come and literally fashioned its outcome to his liking. He sacrificed himself for the greater good. That being said, in terms of magical ability and influence, I see them as equals. However, Dumbledore does exhibit his abilities a hell of a lot more than Gandalf does. Gandalf uses his power sparingly, but awesomely.
It's a tough call. Gandalf is indeed badass (probably more so than Dumbledore), but in terms of who would win in a fight...well, that'd be Dumbledore. It's not a popularity contest.

1. Dumbledore
2. Snape (I put Snape as two because he was able to dupe Voldemort for so long with his awesome Occlumency skills...and ultimately kept Harry alive. He kept readers guessing until the end.)
3. Voldemort
4. Grindlewald
5. McGonagall
6. Lupin
7. Moody
8. Granger
9. Lestrange
10. Shacklebolt

possibly...if they don't end up preventing it. it would explain why river is in prison. at one point last season didn't she say she killed someone very important? or did i dream that?
