There was always potential for rapid intensification. They predicted a major hurricane over a day in advance. There are too many factors that could prevent a storm from reaching this intensity, why would the try to predict a cat 5 with 170 930mb only to have it cause a panic and the storm stalls out? Then people would harp about the miss during the next storm.

If a cat 3 coming right at you doesn't get you moving, 30 mb lower wouldn't either.

Have a friend in BR working on her post-doc at LSU who has no vehicle. Told her about power outages with gustav and the potential for a repeat with Ida. Offered to bring her and her pup back to our house if she wanted and she started packing immediately. Heading back to Mobile from BR after.

Roger that. Worst case, I get to BR and she is still sleeping and I have to wait for her to get ready to leave. But at least I’d avoid as many slow downs as possible.
