re: How do culinary practices differ between North and South Louisiana?
Posted by deaconjones35 on 2/6/26 at 7:16 pm to Rankest
My Mom is from Shreveport and my Dad from Raceland. I had the best of both worlds eating growing up. Up North, we had chicken and dumplings, deer everything, fresh fried fish, fresh vegetables from their garden, turtle soup and of course down south we had all the typical Cajun dishes. It’s a matter of having good cooks in the family no matter where you live.

Why can't we just enjoy a great play and not compare? Just enjoy the game!

Our tradition has been Cinclare’s for the past 8 years. Been to Cuvée several times this year and yeah it’s great. I saw they just changed their menu, need to check it out. Last time we went to Fremins, it was really good too.

Same setup as the last 2 days. Still at the camp, about to ease on to the stand. That storm was no joke last night. Gotta leave by 10 to make it to Thibodaux for our Anniversary dinner. 29 years today, baws!
Good luck!

Today will be only the third time in my life I’ve sat in the stand from before dawn to dark. I’ve seen 2 yearlings about 200 yards out. Hoping something comes out so I can put some meat in the freezer. Looks like the storm won’t get here until after dark, so that’s good news.

Last year I had hernia surgery and this year work and family issues has taken over my life. Sucks, because my Dad is getting up there in age and I hate missing hunting trips with him. Glad to be here now, though.

I’ve been sitting since 6:15 and have seen 4 squirrels and a rabbit. Guess I’m going to stay until the storms come. I’m not complaining. First time in the woods for 2 years. Enjoying the peace and quiet.
Glad your dad got one, baw!

Yesterday was windy as all get out. Calm so far this morning. I think most of the deer went nocturnal around here.
Good luck, baws.

I lost my Uncle, Grandma, 2 good friends and both of my in-laws (7 weeks apart) in the past 12 months. It has been the worst year of our lives as far as dealing with that hurt and loss. The Holidays pretty much sucked, but having our kids and grandkids around has helped. I guess only time can heal things. Sorry for your loss, I can't imagine losing my wife.

I can't imagine having to shoot my own child.
Someone in my immediate family battled addiction to pain pills for 15+ years and eventually wound up in jail after stealing from everyone they knew. Fast forward to today, they have been sober for 11 years and doing great. Recovery can happen, but I know it is difficult for most.

re: What was your experience leaving home and staying in a college dorm?
Posted by deaconjones35 on 10/1/25 at 9:30 pm to rickyh
Baw, 1992 was my freshman year and I stayed at Power Hall which no longer exists. Every weekday night around 9pm, we would all come out to the common hall and plan our trip to the Tiger and have "quata wata". That's when I learned how to understand Chalmation talk. So yeah, dorm life was good to me.
re: Why do so many struggle with the word sophomore?

True story, I’m 50 years old and starting about 5 years ago, I couldn’t pronounce the words carport or cardboard correctly. My wife makes fun of me all the time. It comes out caaaardbored and caaaarpooort. It’s weird. Probably aids.
