In what team sport would any high level team not take a huge hit if they lost their best player? If Kobe got hurt, the Lakers would've taken a huge step back. If Joe Burrow got hurt, we don't win in 2019. If Argentina loses Messi, they probably have a big drop off (idk, I'm not a soccer fan but he's a huge name).

Except for maybe the 1927 Yankees, losing your best player off a contending team is always going to make the team have a huge drop off.

ESPECIALLY QB, other than maybe a starting pitcher (who only plays in 20% of the games) there isn't a single position at any sport that is more important to a team.

Think of it this way, the smaller the number, the more likely it is to happen. If a number is super negative, it is very likely. If a number is super positive, it is very unlikely. The closer the number is to zero, the more it could go "either way."

You gotta know that it’s not the same thing. They get in because they get a pity date to the prom for being the best of the bad with an auto qualifier. They wouldn’t legitimately be in the top 12 if they ever actually took the top 12 teams, and I’d venture to say they are only ranked because P5 teams get more losses for playing each other. If every FBS team played every other FBS team, they’d be middle of the pack or maybe to third at best.

The fact that earlier classes are already more than 5 years passed their "college entry date."

If someone enrolled in college for the 2021 season, their 5 years were 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025. That's why the 2021 class isn't affected.
